Hi. I'm Triste, and I've seen Gaia for a while... ninja

(My account was hacked some time ago and the 'e' added by the hacker. Long story)

Anyway, I was raised in a single-parent family with my half-brother. My mother was raised in a military family along with her four siblings, but even though her parents were religiously Muslim, they were educated enough (for native Indonesians, anyway!) to recognize the fact that their children can have a choice. This led to my mother's generation to have different religions (my Mom and two of her sisters are Catholics, one of sisters is Christian, and her brother is a Muslim).

I've been attending private schools for most of my primary, junior high- and high-school life--but have often wondered about some of its finer points. Right now, I wouldn't even claim to belong in any one religion just yet, even though I do believe in the existence of a 'higher being'.

My priority right now is simply to gather facts regarding the different religions and, perhaps, decide on my own someday.

Nice to meet you all. 3nodding

Triste

How are you sure they're using th' term offensively?
If it's a problem, you probably shouldn't make your beliefs apparent to everyone.

Aloha i'm Kalvia ^_^ i'm not really much of anything b/c i haven't looked at all the religions that are being offered. I've basicly made up my own from using bits and parts of others. I was Wiccan for awhile but i also like a lot of Asian beliefs as well. But that's me i'm alittle bit of everything. I was rasied to be Cathloic but it really just wasn't me so i'm here now in my own little world well that's about it ^_^!!

Well, now that I've already posted about three times I figure I aughta get this part over with. whee

I'm known on Gaia as J. Starlock, and I post mostly in the guilds I am in nowadays, though I used to be a frequenter of the M&R subforum (and still do check it frequently, it just has bored me of late). I saw this guild refferenced by somebody and I knew it'd be a nice place to join! I'm currently a member of two Pagan guilds, a mod of one Pagan guild, and a member of... how to classify these...four intellectual-type guilds (basically ED without the spam forums).

So from that it should be obvious that (gasps) I'm Pagan! wink While I've only been persuing it as a study since around October of 2004, the roots were already well grown into the soil before I ever picked up a book on Wicca. Right now I'm trying to focus down my beliefs and get (hopefully) a Book of Shadows done in the traditional year and a day since I started studying.

I look forward to discussing with you all here. If anyone has any questions on Paganism, feel free to PM me and I'll answer the best I can! biggrin

Welcome to the guild, Starlock. Sounds like we can expect some good, intelligent discussion from you - yay! We always like those brainy types ^^.

Not quite sure where I fit in there, but... *shrug*

Sounds as if you and I have been studying Wicca (or is it really just Paganism?) for about the same length of time. I for a few months longer, but I didn't learn about the year and a day thing until much later, so I neglected to mark the date...

An interesting point, a lot of people seem to know more about Paganism than they even realize themselves. Funny how that works...
PostPosted: Thu Apr 21, 2005 10:19 pm

(chuckles) I don't feel like the exact date is all that critically important. I know I have the exact date recorded somewhere, but I don't really care when it is right now. Much more important to focus on what you're learning here and now than the deadline/marker/etc of the year and a day. In the end, it is not time, it is diligence. A person studying Paganism for only two months can have more knowledge than someone studying only a year, simply by merit of how much work they've put into studying.

But wait... this is the introduction thread! Such side coversations do not belong here! Aaaaah! whee

Anyway, this looks to be a good Guild so far. It should be fun. 3nodding

Hey all, I am Zeline or Sakerra if you prefer. Anyway I have just joined this guild in hopes of being able to learn the truth about other religions and what they really believe. I myself am LDS. I look forward to being able to disscuss many different things with all of you.

Hello! I was raised Catholic, but about 4 years ago, I split. I'm currently studying Taoism, although beliefnet's quiz placed me as holding ideals similar to that of a Mahayana Buddhist.

My parents are both atheists and so they never raised me with a religion. They are very tolerant people though. I always was interested in religion. When we started learning about it in elemantary school, I started to like Bible stories. I even went to a Catholic school for half a year in 4th grade. This was because it was the nearest school after we moved, no other reasons. There religion was one of the main classes and it was interesting for me to see religion in the perspective of a Catholic. We went to church every month once and everybody except 3 of us didn't receive the "wafer" thing ("jesus flesh"). But it didn't bother anybody that I wasn't catholic. Nobody wanted me to get baptized or pressure me into their religion, which I found really nice.

In Germany after 4th grade we start going to "high school", it's not the same like in the US, but it's like a higher school or something. There we learned about religion and this class was totally voluntarily. Once again I liked this class. I also liked to study about Greek mythology and other religions. In 10th grade we started learning about Buddhism, but I read about it before and found myself interested in the "golden" middle way of everything and other Buddhist philosophies.

Now I'm in the US as an exchange student. My host sister is from Indonesia, she's Muslim. She told me about her religion and I think Rammadhan and fasting is fascinating. When she fasted I wanted to accompany her, but after the first day I gave up. I was not used to getting up at 4 am and then going back to sleep and not eating till 6 pm.

Germany has a very sad history with Hitler's holocaust. We learn a lot about Judaism in Germany. I think it's important that people know the history of their own nation to better understand their own mentality and attitudes of other countries towards them.

As you can see I'm very interested in religions - no matter what religion. I can maintain an objective view though because I'm an atheist.

Hey guys,

I am an Ahmadi Muslim. For all you people who dont know what an ahmadi is, ahmadiyyat (a sect in Islam) believes in Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. We believe he is the promised messiah, the one from all of the prophecies. If you have any questions about ahmadiyyat, PM me.
