Ezra wondered where he should go next. There were so many different booths to choose from. He walked around for a bit, just looking at all the sights and listening to all the sounds. After a few moments he decided just to ask the next adult for a treat or a trick.
He lifted his bucket and smiled at the nearest elder. "Trick or treat!" The adult plunked something into his pumpkin and Ezra excitedly looked inside. Oh hey, he must have gotten a treat, because he really did like raisins! There was something else in there too, another batty toy!

Sprout fluttered through the hall, flying in short bursts the crowd allowed them. Over in the corner there was a small booth, an archway over head with paper ghosts. The Fallen laughed as he looked up at them, hoping the intention of the attraction was in good nature, and not an attempt to actually be spooky. Sprout appreciated a good craft though and they reached up to take one as given permission by the sign. This one had a silly face - it was awesome.

Cassie wandered the festival, wearing a dark sweater over her usual cheery get up. She hadn't had time around studying to dedicate to dressing up, but she still wanted to participate. Halloween was always exciting here at the Academy! The pink-haired Fallen passed one of the tables, immediately taking a step backwards as she spotted something of interest. "How do I win that?" she immediately asked, pointing to the fat bat plush.
Cassie listened to the rules before tossing the miniature squash towards the buckets. To her delight, she actually got it in the correct bucket on the first try. "Thank you!" she beamed, scooping up the prize she had been eyeing. It was just too cute.
Frey had managed to win another prize, a lavender-colored lollipop to be precise, and sat down on a bench intending to people watch. It was a bit lonely; he had to admit just traversing through the festival alone took a bit of the joy out of the holiday. It wasn’t as if he had many friends to be honest and he wasn’t the type to try to meet new people by going up to them. Still other people were having fun and that’s what matter in the long run. He’d get out of his funk soon but right now it was still nice to sit down and enjoy his lollipop.
"Wow, that's really cute!" Quilo grabbed Ella's hand and inspected the bracelet around her wrist. It was so shnazzy! "I didn't know they gave out jewelry at these gigs. I thought it was just candy?" But Quilo started as a pink object came swooping in from above to land on Tarin. He peered past Ella and blinked at it. Was that a nezubat? He frowned. "Mr. Tan told us that bats don't nest in hair," he said in an accusing tone. Well, why shouldn't he be accusing? That bat was disagreeing with their teacher! "He said it's just an old wive's tale made up by people who were germ-uh-foe-bick." He glanced at Ella and her worried expression. It was up to him to do something, then...
He reached out a finger towards the bat, then carefully, slowly, gently stroked it on the head with the finger. "Don't hurt Tarin, nezubat. She's nice and I like her and she's our friend. Be good to her, okay?" He looked back at Ella for confirmation. That was what she wanted him to do, right?
At that moment, a grown-up passed by. "You three are so cute! Hey, congrats on your bat, young lady." Almost absently, they dropped something in Quilo's bucket.
Was that a...a turd?! He stared at the grown-up, whose eyes were full of giggling. What a j--
As if attracted by its kindred nearby, something swooped in to cling to Quilo's helmet. In the confusion, the grown-up escaped. He set his bucket down on the ground and plucked off the helmet. A brilliantly colored Nezubat was peering at him smugly. "Oh..." he said. He lifted the helmet to show Ella and Tarin. "I guess I have one too now?"
Ustule stared at the Geist, her head tilted. What was wrong with the way she had thrown? She had won a prize, had she not? Why was he so confused? Inwardly, she sighed. She thought people understood Litches, at least a little. "Eet ees because of the Rot," she said at last. She shrugged. "Eet deadens our senses, so we heve to take a long time to make sure that our bodies are following orders. So we take things slow. I guess eet ees not a Geist thing."
Honestly, it wasn't anyone's thing, except maybe the Fallen, but even then, Fallen were...different than Litches. It was hard to explain.
As the adult walked past, Ustule stopped her with a hand. "Treeck or treat!" she said. The adult nodded, smiled, and dropped something into her bucket. The treat inside was not the best--raisins? Well, raisins were pretty good, actually...But what was taped to the raisins was even better. She smiled, but did not show her new companion the fluffy bat. She was glad that her smile was tiny, almost indetectable. She had a feeling he would try to steal it off of her if he knew.

"It's just a nezubat, Ella!" she huffed for a moment and pointed at the stall she'd gotten it from. "I think they're prizes...or maybe they're just randomly picking kids to go home with?" she shrugged not entirely sure on what the procedure was for the bats finding homes.
She glanced up as Quilo gave the bat a scratch and told it to be nice to her. It chittered at him before wiggling down to hang off the arm of her scrubs and partially of her back. "I think I liked you better in my hair." she said to the creature.
"Thank you." she said to the older individual and then jumped a bit as something swooped down and gripped Quilo's helmet. "I guess we match now~" she said with a giggle before moving to the next stall.
===============
She was rewarded with a big bag of cotton candy for her efforts of looking cute and Tarin happily got it arranged in her bucket before rejoining her friends and preparing to go find this haunted house still.

Because of the Rot.... He stared at her for a moment, unblinking, expression blank.... not that his expression usually changed from flat anyway. But for now it was because he was thinking. He'd learned about that, right? Yeah, he had... He blinked finally and then followed her a bit, stopping to join in the "trick-or-treat" to that passing adult. Gross. A poo gummy? Internally he smiled mischievously... Foras was going to have a great surprise later.
"No it's not a Geist thing." He shook his head and then set his pail down for a moment to adjust his robes... somehow they'd gotten mussed up. Hm. "Why do you talk like that?" He tilted his head at her. Her accent was... interesting. A little hard to understand sometimes but... well, not that he'd ever admit to it out loud, but it wasn't a bad accent. He picked the pail up, then scrunched his face before looking inside. It was considerably heavier.
A little flitterat peered back up at him and stretched it's two sets of wings. He blinked, then grinned. Perfect. He'd have to show Vaden this... Vaden would love it, he was sure!
The look on Neptune's face made it clear--the turnip had to go. She resolved to keep a close eye on it and get rid of it at the first opportunity. Preferably the next second that Neptune had his back turned. It was just...too creepy.
Sara smiled at the little plushie her boy had gotten. "Awww, that's too cute! Lookit its face!" She gave his hand a squeeze. "Well, Ah think our message should be somethin' lahk "If y'see a half-Fallen, half-Chimera gal dressed up as a sorcerer, with a big star on her forehead, an' if she asks if y've seen a Grimm an' a Baphomet t'gether, then that's Maria, and we're waitin' for her." Wait... "That's way too long! Uh, lemme trah again..." She giggled nervously and massaged her forehead. She wanted to be sensible, it was what she was, right? But she was just...not thinking straight. "Um, just...if they see our friend, who's a hahbrid dressed in a big purple cloak, tell her we're up here at the front, waitin' for her? Does that sound better?"
A passing adult caught the end of that sentence and snorted. Attracted by the noise, Sara turned and held out her bucket. "Trick-or-treat!"
A purple bracelet plonked into the bucket. Sara curtseyed, to the adult's amusement. "Thank you!"
Things seemed to be going well--super well! He looked up at his father and tugged on his sleeve. "How come people here are nicer?"
Jurvik blinked. "Nicer than who?"
"Nicer than the people from...from last year."
Jurvik shrugged. "Where did you go trick-or-treating last year?"
"Asphodel. We took the train there as a big field trip. The people there weren't all nice."
His father let out a groan--a scary one. He clung to his father's arm and stared at him. The Geist sighed. "People in Asphodel...well, most of them are Demons, and a lot of them aren't...used to the variety and diversity of people everywhere. A lot of them can barely accept other races. Hybrids and...October babies are sort of beyond their understanding or comprehension. But here, we're in the town of Asphodel Gardens, which is different--it's a school town, so they're used to seeing us non-Demons wandering around."
That sort of made sense. Not entirely, but sort of. Xeno nodded. "Okay," he said. He looked around. There was a Demon operating a game nearby, a card-matching game. He looked up at Jurvik. Was Dad right, that Demons just weren't nice? Or was it that the city was the thing? He was confused on that score. He walked up to the table with the matching cards and looked up at the vendor. The vendor looked down at him...
...and smiled. That was a good thing! Xeno smiled back. "Hello, there!" the demon said. "You can flip over four cards. If two of them match, you win a treat. If more than two match, you win a prize. If none of them match, we'll get you something anyway."
"Okay." Xeno reached out to flip a card. Then another, and another, and another. He sighed. None of them matched. But he accepted a packet of gum from the vendor with a brave smile and turned back to his father. "He wasn't so bad."
"No, he wasn't. Like I said, people at Asphodel Gardens are very sweet--"
He was interrupted by something brightly colored swooping in to catch a hold of Xeno's shirt. Almost camouflaged by the Hallows-y colors was a Nezubat as big as Xeno's hand. Immediately, he looked up at Jurvik.
The Geist chuckled. "Of course you can keep it, bud! But you've gotta help take care of him, okay?"
Haunted Hallows was the best time of year, and superlatives were not a part of Callessa's nature. But this was the time of year in which she could let her hair down--or take off the sunglasses--and let her eyes peak out every which way. With five points of view, the world around her was a kaleidoscope of distances and shapes. It was the only way she had ever seen, but it was something to be...well, not quite proud of, this time of year? But yeah, this was a good time of year for mutants like her.
She felt like she'd mostly grown out of Haunted Hallows, but her mother had insisted on going. Every business in Asphodel Gardens had a table or a group of chairs out; it was a way to advertise your business to the numerous adults. It was a social gathering, a fair, with all of the kids--including non-academy kids--here with their parents. And so was her mother, with a pen full of young fennekits for sale. Meanwhile, Callessa was left standing out here...not quite sure what to do. She'd had a plastic pail impressed upon her earlier, and it was attracting some unwanted attention.
An adult passed by and plonked something in her bucket. "Thank you," she said reflexively, and looked inside. A bracelet, huh? Well, that was okay, then. She slipped it on her hand and went back to handing out candy to the little kids.

He smiled a little at Sara's reaction to the plush, he rather liked it... and the colors kind of reminded him of.. "A-ah... it... k-kind of looks like you, d-d-doesn't it...?" Sort of, anyway. Enough that he'd treasure it even more. He could even call it Sara... no, that'd be weird... Plus, what if she asked what it's name was? Oh no, he could never. Nope. He brushed that idea aside as a flood of warmth rose to his cheeks.
He listened to her initial message... and immediately became confused. That was so long... so complicated... how should he tell her-- oh. She figured it out. Of course she did, Sara was very, very smart. He nodded, stifling a small giggle behind a paw. "Y-yes, that sounds much better." He nodded, then perked as the adult passed by and once again mimicked Sara.
At first, the sight of yet another nezubat plushie made his face light up... But a second passing adult quickly tossed something into his pail before he brought it back. It'd moved too fast for him to catch what it was.... he peered inside, and then yelped loudly.
Oh NO, ANOTHER scary turnip!! He had TWO!! How could this happen!?
A couple of kids passing by tossed something into his pail they apparently hadn't been pleased about getting... Upon further inspection, it was a rock. Well then... Who gave out ricks? Ah well, he supposed he could use it for something...
He sure hoped Leif was doing alright... It had only been a few days since the adoption was finalized, but he'd asked if he could try trick-or-treating by himself. Such an independent little fellow... Corben had, of course, said that he could, but he still worried. The little mutant had been picked on before, it'd be a shame if he were picked during the festival.
Oh there were just so many people around...! Leif had no idea what to do first... Upon arrival he'd been given a pail - he chose the one closest to green - but after that he'd been set loose upon the festival. A couple of games caught his eyes, but the lines were so long... He wasn't sure what to do...
Down the way he noticed a card matching game with a short line... That would do. He went ahead and moseyed on over, careful to mind where he was going. His vision was a little odd compared to everyone else's, but he'd learned how to manage at a fairly young age.
Once it was his turn to play with the cards, he flipped them over as instructed... A winning match! With a smile he pointed to the green and black bracelet on display next to the cards, then held up his pail. The game master plopped it inside with a "happy haunted hallows," which he returned.
Now what to do... He turned around and examined the fairgrounds again..
