AlthIndor AngelBiscuits That seems really.....complicated. I can't do math to save my life (I have a disability) so I wouldn't be able to do anything like that. I was thinking something a lot simpler, haha....... I have a difficult time following along with stuff like that, I barely understood half of the ship stuff in the original star trek :c Okay. rofl Did you have any ideas? I can probably come up with a profile for ships like I did the profiles for characters, where would we put them though? Have people post their ships in their characters' threads? Or make a separate thread for ships?

I think it might be okay to post them with the characters that own them since not everyone will have their own ship.

Eh, it's not that bad. It's just going take 20 hours to rebuild, that's the part that's annoying. It was one drive in a RAID 1 array that went. I mostly thought it was hilariously aptly timed. Let's hope no one else's stuff decides to jump on the "yep, time for me to break" bandwagon. xD

Oh good. C: I can limit to a single android body, but I was hoping for specifically a modular intelligence sorta deal. Like a mind you can plug into most machines and have it run while speaking at you and stuff.
C:< Like science stuff.

Welcome to the RP world! (: Everyone has a different style of RPing, but the majority of guilds on gaia RP in the third person narrative with their post including their character's name and picture. This is just the general sense for RPing lol. Others try less, and others try more. It all depends on you. But, I hope you enjoy this guild and if you have any questions, feel free to ask biggrin

I was reading some other peoples' profiles and came across a few requests to change artwork due to copyright issues. So out of curiosity, I went to the internet to try and find some modern illustrated character art that's licensed under CC - since unless you know that you're permitted to use it, you shouldn't - and holy hell is that a lot harder than I thought it would be. I got maybe a handful of ironclad works. What a pain in the a**.

A lot of artists copyright their works and for good reason. I understand that it is hard to find nice pictures that aren't copyrighted, and some people just don't know in most of the cases, but that doesn't mean you can still use it. I would gladly message an artist I followed telling them that their picture was being used for RP purposes (since most artists don't want their pictures used for RP). But, if you ask, there's always a chance the artist will say yes (:

For a work not to be copyrighted, the artist would have to explicitly give up their copyright on it by releasing it into the public domain. So uh ... yeah. Random fun fact time! xD But that's what I'm saying too: if you don't know the copyright status of a work, you shouldn't use it. And for some reason, I never thought of what you've suggested - going to DeviantArt for works where all rights are reserved by the artist and just ... asking them if you can use it for an RP, as opposed to wasting so much time searching for art that's already free to use. I mostly just got really bored last night and wanted to see if I could find galleries of free, digitally illustrated art. I could not.

Well, fanart is usually open to public use because it's well, fan art. Although because of the mass and vast amounts of shows, games, etc. it can be difficult figuring out what is and what isn't fan art. I've actually asked an artist that I really admire if I could use her art for RP and stuff and she gave me her written permission to do so. Usually that's the way it works. If you claim that you have written permission, you better be able to pull it up. However, it's always good to look through the artists's pictures first to see their general standpoint on copyright and then maybe skim through their journals and FAQs and such to see their policy and stance on others using their work.

The legality of fan art in the first place is such a ridiculously major copyright debate that just ... ugh. Headaches.
