She nodded a bit. "The illness will not be pleasant either," she said softly. "But after... we will be compatible, we will have cubs, and a life together." She hesitated then looked down a bit. "I should try to get a cub as soon possible, just in case, however," she said, considering. "If the illness comes before I change in the way of your people. That way my clan has an heir that is more our kind first. I don't know. We... will have to figure it out," She mumbled, looking down at her paws, which she linked together. She hadn't been planning on cubs so soon... but... it was the best way to make sure they all got what they wanted... right? Cubs of his people and hers...

Hadrian took her hands in his, "My genetics will still be there for a cub...and children who are wholly Carpathian do not always live. The ones that are half, when they do occur, struggle their whole lives trying to fit into two worlds. And it is very likely that any half child we would have would still require blood to survive. I understand your desire to provide your clan with an heir, but we would knowingly be bringing a cub into a life where we wouldn't be able to offer it the help it would need. I could never ask someone to live like a shadow in their own body..."

"The Leska link is a breeding imperative. Vartra would not have put us together if he did not believe our cubs would be only the best of both races. I was thinking that it was more likely, however, that if we have a cub before I change over, that cub will be closer to my people, and cubs after would probably be closer to yours. This way we would have cubs to give hope to both races." She just really hadn't wanted to have her first cub yet. But... it was what their peoples required, so... she would do what she had to do.

"I wish it would work like that, however, I find it hard to believe that such a thing would happen. Any child we have now would run the risk of having to be fully converted to my people to live. And then your people would still be out of an heir."

"I trust Vartra," she said softly. "He has done this before, and I have a feeling you and I will be helping him, as well." She tried to remind herself that she trusted Vartra.

She growled a bit. "I will not risk our cub, we will do this to ensure our cub will have the best chance," she snarled, ear flicking, and tail lashing.

Hadrian wasn't intimidated by her. He snarled back at her, a low growl emitting from his chest. "And what will you do, then, when this child grows old and dies and you are still young and beautiful? The cub will live longer than mortals, that is for certain, but it will not have the seeming immortality that we will have."

"We will be a new race, for Vartra's sake! Humans have shorter life spans than Sholans, but when they combined, the cubs had Sholan life spans, and so did the human Leskas. You could wind up having a Sholan lifespan, and the same to our cubs, or we could ALL have the lifespans of your people! Why do you have to presume that everything will be the worst possible outcome?! Don't you ever have any faith in anything?! Seriously, even putting aside Gods and Science, how often is the way you think what most effects what you achieve? These cubs could be a perfect blending, before and after all the changes. Or it could be that between the virus and the conversion we will have a hybrid cub, and after, we will have cubs of your people only! Either could be possible, and either would be wonderful, so why do you have to fixate on thoughts that everything will be horrible for our cubs. Have faith. If not in our Gods, then in our science, and in you and I!" Her fur puffed around her neck and her ears were flat in her head, her eyes shining with emotion.

His eyes were flashing red, his beast was dangerously close to running loose.

But if you have never let yourself down... that may be the thing about you the most different from me. I've let myself down, but that is because I try for things beyond what I think I can do, and sometimes I fail, but sometimes I do more than I could ever imagine. I fail sometimes, I will continue to fail, but I will never only try what I know I can do.
"And with someone I am compatible with, it is harder NOT to get with cub than to get with cub! For pure Sholans, the females choose, it is a simple matter. For the mixed Leskas and the En'Shalla cubs, we have to be implanted to KEEP us from getting pregnant every time we pair, which is a minimum of once every five days! My Grandmother is one of the best geneticists since the Cataclysm! And Vartra..." She hesitated there. What in the Gods' names could she say about Vartra? The very thing that made her sure this would work... would undermine any faith her soon-to-be-she-was-sure Leska might have. The truth about Vartra might well have been why no one had ever survived the Fire Margins ritual. But she knew the truth, and it only solidified her faith. But she remembered the stories and held her tongue. For now. Once they lined...he would know all she knew. There was no way for Leskas to keep secrets.
She was still angry, but she also felt bad for him. She had grown up with the clan around her, and always knew that she was loved and had always been taken care of. She wanted to give him that, wanted to give him that warm feeling of being loved, protected, cared for... She leaned forward and licked his inner ear once, lightly.

Hadrian tried to be gentle as he pulled her to him, but the beast was making demands on him. He growled at her sign of affection and buried his face in her hair, inhaling the way she smelled in an effort to get himself back under control.
He whispered in her ear, "Hadrian." After nipping at her neck, he spoke again, "I am Hadrian."

She gasped as he nipped at her neck, but there was no pain or upset in the sound, only pleasure. She tilted her head back, arching her neck to him. No part of her was spared for thinking about the fact that he might not understand the significance. "Hadrian," she whispered, tasting his name with a low throaty purr.

He liked the sounds she made. They encouraged him to be bolder. He nipped again, harder this time. Instincts were driving him and he was about to answer. He needed to taste her. She would surely be addicting. Having never tasted a Sholan's blood, he had no idea what to expect and he really didn't care. He just needed to taste her.

So she would have arched her throat more and fumbled at their clothing... and we fade.
He would learn a few things about Sholans in their pairing. Like the fact that if he touches the base of her tail, she yowls, but seems to really really enjoy it, and if he doesn't bite her throat at some point, she will guide him to do that, and at one point, she would put her jaws over his throat, across the jugular. Just firmly enough to p***k the skin, a show of dominance and equality both, oddly enough, and a sign of pure trust, and acceptance of the partner as a lover. It was her first time pairing, but it would be clear that she was aware of what to do, and fumbled only when it came to things about him that were different from humans. But she would happily go with him as long as he would want to.
