"Because," Lael said, dodging a low hanging boulder, "Somewhere along the way we lost the middle ground. At some point in time someone decided for all of us that tying to make peace with the mortals as we are was a bad idea - it was too risky. Fear compelled us to either remain hidden or..."
Lael paused for effect, but also contemplated the depths of her own words.
"or declare war. A pre-emptive strike, some would call it. A world of freedom."

She did her best not to let her own preduces slip into her tone, but she couldn't tell if she'd succeeded or not. And now came the crucial moment.
"So if you had two choices, either remain hidden or destroy people you're not even sure would attack you so that you might live in freedom, which would you choose?"

"Fear compeleld us to either remain hidden, or..." Karinda glanced to Lael as she paused, the girl's next words making Karinda snort. "Or declare war. A preemptive strike, some would call it. A world of freedom."

'Preemptive'? Karinda questioned Saiirin, the dragon shaking her head.

"So if you had two choices, either remain hidden or destroy people you're not even sure would attack you so that you might live in freedom, which would you choose?"

"Only a fool would start a war with creatures who are doing no harm," Karinda answered. "I would rather our kind remain in the shadows than begin something that would take innocent lives from both us and them."

Eve blinked at Chaim, she didn't think to tell him where they were going. "Oh! I'm sorry I just went on auto-pilot." She smiled

Her smile did not last long as she jumped at the sounds "I think that's coming from a few streets over.....I work on that street." She stated absently

"We've been acting bi-polar since we met, maybe we should just go get some coffee?" she suggested, she was slightly curious about the commotion but she realized that she had left her new friend rather distraught

Eve lightly adjust Chaims cloak, then looked into town "What would you like to do?" she asked looking up at him with a blank stare.

Lael's wings fluttered lightly as a genuine smile graced her lips.
"Good." She said simply. "We are agreed. Templum is home to all who would rather hide in peace than declare a war on innocent humans. I'm a peacekeeper. It's my job to help keep us hidden - to stop those who would declare war on innocents for a world they imagine will be better. There used to be hundreds of us. Now I don't know how many there are."
Lael rubbed her temple.
"The number of us declaring war has grown. There is a battle now between ourselves - those fighting to remain hidden, and those fighting to declare war. Then there are those who want no part of internal war."

Lael stopped just past a torch and turned, so that they were both in the light.
"This is how the world is now. If you choose it, Templum will be home to you until you decide where exactly you stand".

xxLucius was forced to stop his advance when the woman managed to out run him. She blacked his only exit, making him jump onto the bar counter, turning into his full size; his black, amorphous monster form. "Grrr... You will not fool me, Demon! I know of your evil, I will not be swayed! You may manipulate lesser minds, but I will not bow down to the likes of you!" Lucius revealed one of his weapons; a glass flask. He threw it onto the ground, and when it shattered, a cloud of black smoke filled the entire building. Most of the patrons panicked from the monsters and the smoke, and stampeded through the door. Though also blinded by his own smoke, Lucius grabbed onto the closest patron, shrinking himself into the size of a bug on their person, as attempted to also flee the scene on the back of someone else.

Alexander stops and pulls out his rag, suddenly realizing that the rag seemed to move in small fits. He looks at the black smudge to see it try to escape from off the rag and towards the bar. He raises an eyebrow before looking back to the bar, hearing a number of panicking people.

He squints his eyes before drawing his sword from off his back, the large sword ringing slightly as he does so. He then slowly steps towards the bar's entrance as black smoke spewed from the building and many of the afraid beings inside panicked and races for the exit, so he stops by the road and watches the bar from there, awaiting for the stamped of people to either all settle down or all escape so that he may enter himself. He kept his large sword drawn and his eyes squinted, trying to peer through the thick black smoke.

Jarod, surprised, took a tiny step back but maintained a neutral expression as he spoke to Bebinn. "Yes, I did. But not the same way. I can't do the same things she can." His eyes glanced around at their surroundings, then looked back at Bebinn. "If you wanna know more, I can tell you more when we're somewhere... else." Even Jarod knew to save any 'supernatural' talk for a place away from humans, especially those who were prone to believing. Not many responded to power greater than their own in a positive way.

That, and he was tired. Physically tired, and tired of trying to use small-kid talk.

"Come on. I saw an inn on our way over here that looked alright." Loki started to walk away from the water and towards the lights behind them. "Normally it's just Jarod and I, but I'm sure we can figure something out." Loki and Jarod both smiled. Normally Loki would shift into something that was small and could sneak around unseen, and Jarod would become an adult and do the talking and pay for one person. It wasn't the most honest thing to do, but they never stayed in one place for too long, and they always found some other way of paying those 'unknown dues'. They just stayed somewhere long enough to earn enough money to keep them going, to acquire something they needed, maybe to help someone out. Then move on again.

Loki thought she could hear a commotion some distance away, but dismissed it as fireworks or some other attraction.

"Okay, then. I should have enough to pay for myself." She started walking with Loki, then started at what sounded to be some sort of panic. Listening for a moment, she decided that those screams were definitely not jubilation. Oh, wonderful. Half-crazed humans were going to be running around. She turned to the mother and son pair and said, "I think it be best if we hurry."

A smirk crossed Agrona’s face as the creature jumped to the counter, his form growing and morphing into his true figure. Her eyebrows raised as he spoke, his words lacking substance.

“Incapable of coherent speech, eh?” she chuckled, the sound airy. Her eyes honed in on a vial the creature brandished. “What—”

A hiss escaped Agrona as, with the sound of shattering glass, a cloud of black smoke invaded her senses, engulfing the entire building as the humans’ panic intensified. One of the wretched beings rammed into her, knocking her off balance.

With a snarl, she swung her scythe through the smoke. A pained scream met her ears, and with a smug smile, she stepped through the smoke and to the door. Looking around through the waning smoke as it dissipated into the air, she scowled. The creature had escaped. Across the way, the man from earlier stood with his large sward drawn.

With a snort, she looked around in search of the falling Peacekeeper. As she searched, a tingling sensation spread up her spine, freezing her in place.

He’s here, she thought with a snarl. Turning her gaze to the darkening sky, her eyes narrowed.

Glancing to the line of dripping red on her blade, the scythe turned into many lines of black and receded into the skin of her hand. The lines quickly spread up her arm, disappearing beneath the cloth of her dress.

With her nose turned up in disgust, she clapped her hands above her head. As soon as her palms made contact, a line of water swirled about her, engulfing her body for a fraction of a second. The element faded as quickly as it had come, leaving in its wake only the faint residue of graying smoke.

Chaim froze as the sounds of fear drifted through the air toward them. The familiar dark feel of pure evil tickled across his skin; a sensation he would know anywhere.

I should have felt her sooner! he scolded himself with a scowl.

“We’ve been acting bipolar since we met. Maybe we should just go get some coffee?” Eve’s words brought Chaim’s attention back to her, his anger at the evil entity’s presence breaking through the usual calm surface of his duo-colored eyes.

He banished the emotion from his features as the girl adjusted his cloak before looking instead to the town waiting to engulf them, the first of the street lamps flickering on to light the way through the night.

“What would you like to do?”

“Coffee sounds fine,” he answered in a distracted voice, looking over his shoulder in the direction of the faint commotion. “Unless my memory’s failed me, there’s a café three streets down…” His voice trailed off as the feeling disappeared, leaving his skin chilled. “Perhaps we should see what the clamor is about first?”

“I know well of Peacekeepers,” Karinda replied, respect echoing in her voice, “yet Templum remains an unknown.”

“The number of us declaring war has grown. There is a battle now between ourselves--those fighting to remain hidden, and those fighting to declare war. Then there are those who want no part of internal war.”

Karinda nearly ran into Lael as the Peacekeeper stopped and turned within the light of a torch.

This is how the world is now,” the girl continued, ”If you choose it, Templum will be home to you until you decide where you stand.”

“Where I stand?” Karinda’s questioning eyes met Lael’s. “Have I done something to give thou the belief that I would not fight to defend peace amongst the races?”

xxLucius though he was free now. He had managed to eavesdrop on the woman, and escape her evil presence. But as he rode on his host, some of the patrons knock Lucius's mount over, landing on him. The impact was sudden and Lucius did not prepare for it. His whole body was crushed between the unforgiving pavement and the heavy-set fellow he rode on. Though the man was safe, Lucius was sprawled over the pavement, his form slowly changing back to his normal, grotesque one. No one paid any mind, as they where too busy trying to get away. Of those who did glance at him, they thought of him as simply a bag of garbage. Lucius was having a hard time getting his bearings, and decided to lay on the ground for just the moment, until he can gather himself again.

Alexander watched closely as a number of panicking people ran out of the bar. He could vaguely see a women swing a scythe through the smoke as she exited, the screams of pain of those harmed by it muffled by the panicking screams of those who wished to escape the scene. He frowns to her when he finds her to be the women he had spotted with a man near him in the bar as she stepped out and stood outside the entrance of the bar, debating on whether he should confront her in combat or just do his best to insure she doesn't leave by the time the authorities are contacted... but then he noted a sick sense that seemed to be in response to her presence... as if she was a source of immense power... so he knew better then to tangle with her in her current state. He watched her carefully as she looked around with a snort, snarl, and other such displays of disgust before her scythe recedes into herself and then she disappears.

He stood, looking to where she had been... at the faint smoke that lingered for a moment... before shaking his head and then glances around, knowing he had little time to stick around before there would be some form of authorities around and sealing off the area from the public... and he didn't want to stick around to answer questions. What would he tell them?... That he saw smoke, but no fire... that he saw a women with the appearance of some goddess disappear?... That he has a bit of a black substance that he scooped up from the counter?... No, it would be more trouble than it would be helping, so he turns away from the bar and proceeds down the sidewalk, ignoring something that appeared to be a garbage bag... which, to him, appeared to be soaked... so he wouldn't touch it... not even with his foot, stepping over it to walk past it. As he walked he reaches back to mount his sword back onto his back, which took him both hands to do, due to needing to slide it into its holster and then strap two straps to insure it doesn't slide off by accident.

My name? คlץςє вlคςкฬ๏๏๔. Not like you even deserve to know.
What am I? A Destroyer and a Alpha Lycan.

Seated on the roof of a tall building was a female, though she was in the perfect spot to avoid being seen. A continuous breeze at the height blew through her long black hair, flicking it in all directions. Slow, deep breaths entered and escaped her as thoughts ran through her mind. Where exactly was she to sleep tonight? An inn, perhaps. "No, too many humans," she thought to herself, frowning ever so slightly. But really, there wasn't much of a choice here.

Suddenly, sounds of panic in the distance. Two bright blue eyes flashed opened, now focussed on the thick black smoke in the distance. She twitched her nose as though in thought, and her eyes soon began to show a glimmer of curiosity. She stood and made her way over to the edge of the roof, and made her way down using the jutting bricks strategically in a rock-climbing like way.

Making her way through the shadows of the streets, she eventually came across what looked to be the origin of the black smoke and the panic. People were outside, one of which -- a male that was unfamiliar to Alyce, though she faintly recognized him -- appeared to be looking over the situation before proceeding down the side walk passed a garbage bag. Alyce's eyes drifted to the garbage bag, focussing on it for a moment. Her eyes narrowed in thought. Did garbage bags normally get put there? Alyce couldn't be sure. It just looked odd. That was for sure.

Turning her attention back to the bar, she tilted her head curiously, wondering what had happened. She wasn't about to go converse with any of those humans, however, so would likely just be left wondering. "I wonder if anyone got hurt," she thought half hopefully. That was always fun, and made things interesting or funny. At least to Alyce.

“Have I done something to give thou the belief that I would not fight to defend peace amongst the races?" Karinda asked.
Lael let the woman's words fade into the tunnel before responding.
"No." She said simply, "But I thought it best to approach the entire topic with caution. How's your shoulder?"

(((Writers block, sorry)))

"Well enough," Karinda replied, touching her shoulder with gentle fingers. Most of what blood had seeped from the wound had dried, creating a thin layer of rust colored crust on her skin, while wet beads still gathered in the deepest parts of the small gashes.

When will this wretched glow diminish? Saiirin hissed, her eyes scanning her small, lit body.

Karinda looked to the dragon with an amused smile. "Perhaps when thy stomach hath finished with the mushrooms," she answered aloud. Turning her attention to Lael, she continued. "How much further must we travel before reaching this Templum thou hath spoken of?"

"Well enough." Karinda answered, her fingers brushing against the dried blood gently. Their attention was drawn by Saiirins hiss. After a second, Karinda said,
"Perhaps when thy stomach hath finished with the mushrooms."

Lael wished she could hear the dragon as Karinda did, but a dragons' trust was not easily won.
"How much further must we travel before reaching this Templum thou hath spoken of?" Karinda asked.
"A bit." Lael admitted with a slight shrug. "Templum is hidden beneath the sea. It is beautiful. The whole place hums with peace and light and freedom. There are, naturally, quite dark holes to crawl into when you need to find someone who doesn't want to be found, but for the most part, it's beautiful."
Her attention wavered back to the little dragon.
"She's not sick, is he? From the fungi?"
