The sorceress gazed at the woman who called herself Calista, not quite with suspicion, but a degree of wariness. The sorceress had seen her fair share of smooth-talkers; those who wanted to seduce her, and those who wanted to hurt her, with little difference between. The brilliance of her smile was not diminished, however, and she gripped Calista's extended hand.
"Luanna Dawntreader," said the sorceress as she released the woman's hand. Her voice was bright, but appeared measured. Calculated. But not unfriendly. "And you're right, I haven't," she admitted before sipping from the glass placed before her. "I greatly prefer places I've never been."

"Luanna," Calista said. "Huh. What a pretty name." Her voice was calm, fluid, though perhaps not entirely sincere - although not for lack of trying. She added quickly, "Oh, and I understand that notion. Places you've been before rapidly get rather boorish far too promptly, don't you think?" She brushed her hair away from her face, pulling a curl so that it twirled around her finger. "But, then, familiar places have familiar faces, and that's always fun. How did you get here? I came through my closet."
The waitress brought the drinks in long-stemmed wine glasses, and Calista picked them both up before Luanna had the chance to move. She hoped that if she moved them to a table, Luanna would follow. Calista had never met anybody like this woman, and doubted she ever would again, so she was determined to milk this encounter for all it was worth. What that worth would be, she couldn't tell - but she was damned well going to try anyway.

Her fingers tapped the bar, rapping out a little rhythm she'd heard a bard play once. The sorceress turned her eyes away from the other woman for a moment. "Unless it's familiar faces you're avoiding, of course." Images flashed through her mind. Ex-family, ex-friends, and the casual strangers she had kept at bay for so many years. With a wave of her hand, she forced the visions to disperse. Familiar faces were easier to run away from physically. They always managed to follow the elf in her mind.
She turned back to Calista, her expression never having changed, slightly surprised to see her standing, holding her drink hostage. She raised her eyebrows at the woman, but stood, understanding her intentions. "A door in the back of an inn's storeroom," she answered. "Magic is funny that way, isn't it?" With that, her eyes flashed, flickering rapidly between green and blue, so quick as to force one to doubt whether or not it happened.

"Clearly," Yukikata said as he walked through the front door, "this is not the Mirky Pub."
He looked back through the door, saw the North Village and the typical people walking up and down the muddy streets. He then looked back into the cafe. People he had never seen before decorated this place. He figured, though he didn't fully understand or trust this place, that if he could get enter the cafe he can surely leave it.
With that notion he sat at the bar. All the seats were occupied save one by two strange looking women. He tried to avoid eye contact. He asked for green tea to the waiter and popped his knuckles as he waited for the tea.

The sorceress stood, still wearing her cryptic smile. "While a secluded table would be nice," she teased, "would it not be rude to leave our new guest?" Without turning to look behind her, she gestured at the newcomer with a twinkle in her eye. She was thankful for the excuse to ruin Calista's plan. She wouldn't deny that she enjoyed the conversation the woman provided, but being alone with her allowed too much opportunity for intimacy to breed.
She turned to greet the man sitting behind her. "Well, hello there," she chirped pleasantly. "I'm Biama Knollwrangler--who might you be?"

"Err," he said, taken back, "Yukikata," he mumbled. Surveying the two women he quickly noted that both women were above average in beauty, or at least in his opinion, and a red flag raised in his mind. Beautiful women brought deadly trouble he thought as he turned to face them. He tried to smile, but quickly frowned once he realized he was wearing his face mask. There was no point in grinning.

((Sorry guys! I'm back. ^^))
Calista sighed and let the sorceress include the newcomer. He freaked her out, although Calista couldn't figure out what exactly about him bothered her. He seemed different to all of the other men she had encountered in this place since arriving.
"Oh Mif," she muttered under her breath. With a roll of her eyes she thrust one of the glasses towards its owner. "Look, I might have misunderstood, but I don't think I have. What's the use of this funny business? I thought your name was Luanna, and now it's not. Unless I misheard you - which, once again, I don't think I did." Calista scowled. "Where are you from, anyway?"

The sorceress turned to Calista and took her glass. She looked up at the woman with a sweet, innocent smile. "You are completely right, my dear," she said. She took a sip from her glass. "Mm," she licked her lips. "But yes, my name was Luanna. Now it isn't. Simple as that, really," and with that she lightly laughed. The laugh flawlessly covered the regret she was beginning to feel. She had been enjoying Calista's company.
"As for where I'm from," she waved her free hand, "I'm from here and there. I wander, to be plain."

Calista raised an eyebrow. "Really. Huh. So, you're like... a gypsy?" Calista looked the sorceress over from her head to her toes. She didn't look much like a gypsy. Her robes were much nicer than the young woman would expect from somebody without a permanent home. "You know, I understand that this cafe is sort of a link between worlds." She took a sip from her glass. "I'm curious about your world. World. Those are words I never thought I'd say."
The one thing Calista hoped more than any other was that this world, this limbo between worlds, would be more forgiving of her magical past.

"Ehh," Yukikata said, "Excuse me, but did you just say this place, a cafe you called it, is a link between worlds?"
What had Yukikata stepped into. Was this where the gods resided? Some other world that could lead to others? If only Yukikata had paid any attention to the myths and religions lessons his masters taught back in school. Maybe then he would have had a better grip on where he was.
The bar tender gave him his tea. It looked like normal green tea. The liquid was green, tea leaves floated on top, but was it the same tea he drank in his world? Pulling out his flexible straw, he placed one in under and up his mask to his mouth and the other in the tea. Taking a sip he was pleased to know that green tea was still green tea. := Yay for green yum_tea =:

The sorceress was surprised by Calista's reaction. She just accepted it? No questions, no protests, just..."Huh." She couldn't say if she was pleased or disappointed. The sorceress could continue to enjoy Calista's company, but leaving would be a bit more difficult.
Of course, no expression crossed the elf's face except for calculated amusement. "Gypsy," she mused, "I've never heard that word before." She gazed off and gave a smile, mouthing the word again. It was a strange, pretty word. She wasn't sure what it meant, but she liked it.
She turned to the man, Yukikata, with her standard cryptic smile. "It appears so," she gestured to the other bar patrons. "It would explain the many different sorts we have here. I've heard tales of other worlds before, from bards and other mages like myself. A lovely thought, isn't it? So much is out there after all." She grinned as she took another sip from her wine. "Perhaps infinite possibilities," she said while her eyes wandered around the room, skipping from door to door. "Infinite escapes. Mm," she put her drink down and turned back to Calista. "My own world is beautiful in nature, spectacle, festival, and magic...Its people, not so much." She laughed, a laugh that was unquestionably bitter. "The people where I am from are deceitful and cruel, and will go from being your closest friend to your worst enemy at the drop of a single word," she said, and shook her head as she finished, covering up her obvious emotional outburst with another sip of her wine. She was inwardly embarrassed at her slip; outwardly, she quickly regained her composure. "Yet," she sighed, "I suspect people are like that in all worlds."

((Sorry about the delay! I'll try to make up for it with a longer post. XD))
Calista nodded. "Believe me, you don't need to talk to me about the lack of beautiful people. I've seen it." She turned to Yukikata and smiled. "I suppose you're a little nervous, but I wouldn't be. My sister came through this once, accidentally of course, and it was because of her that I was able to find it. Or at least I think that must be how it works. Our house is huge and I've never stumbled on anything out of the ordinary until this.
"I did wonder what problems it could cause, you know, with all of these cultures in one place - but now that I'm here I'm beginning to wonder why I was concerned. I thought that perhaps it was a portal of some sort, like a connection that allowed through-travel, but now I'm not so sure. And any ideas I had about dangerous patrons were wiped out when I saw the bar staff." Calista laughed and took a sip from her wine glass. As a matter of fact the bar staff all looked like honest, decent people; this was what had prompted her comment. Calista reasoned that she wasn't likely to get attacked in a cafe where the most threatening danger precaution was a glass of wine.
"You know, where I come from there is religious talk that when the gods invented the world, they didn't intend for it to remain separate. Not like it is. There is a myth that originally the gods would have allowed people to move freely between planes, but of course the brutality of human nature soon did a number on that plan. It's sort of sad, don't you think?"
Calista knew that it wasn't safe to be talking religion in such a place, but from the atmosphere she figured she was among - well, if not friends then amiable acquaintances. It wasn't likely that she could get sequestered for teaching people the 'myths' she had learned as a child, and besides, if she labelled them myths she could always claim to be debunking them. Despite her rationalisation, though, once the words were out of her mouth she regretted them, even if just a little. She squirmed a little in her seat and tried to smile politely. The gesture did not reach the iciness of her gaze.

The sorceress was still trying to calm herself, breathing deeply as she drank from her glass. Her distress was imperceptible to the others, but her outburst had disturbed her. She'd gotten too comfortable. She listened as Calista spoke, however, and smiled at the discussion of her myths.
"Ah, t'would make sense," she said, her voice light and musical. Her sudden jump to cheerfulness was jarring even to her. "And it is sad." She looked around at the doors again. "As I believe I said before, it would be the perfect escape." She finished the last of her wine and gestured for more. "Except," she mused, looking up while once more tapping out a rhythm on the bar, "all the planes would become far too similar. Influencing one another through travel and contact. Wouldn't be an escape then. But perhaps now?" She turned her green eyes back on Calista. "You say in your religions that people cannot move between planes as was intended, and yet here we are."

Calista thought about this for a moment. She ran her fingers around the rim of her wine glass contemplatively, her long golden curls falling over her shoulder. "I'm not sure," Calista said slowly. "I mean, I don't think that this is portal between worlds as much as a space for people from different worlds to gather. Although, I'm not sure I'm willing to test it, but I think it would be dangerous if we could pass between worlds. Do you think it would be possible?"
Fear flickered in Calista's face, despite her best efforts to hide it. Sure, this was a fantastic idea on principal... but what about all of the dangers that went along with that? If people found out about such magic, she'd have no hope of hiding what had happened to her father. She shivered.
