Bornes dug through the can with his fingers, grabbing the meat balls and putting them in his mouth, taking his time so he wouldn't choke on them.

He turned to Isiah, a muffled "why?" escaping his full mouth when he said to wait.
The hybrid swallowed and sat down on his behind until Isiah said nevermind, and after that it took a good minute to get the hint.
He felt like he was becoming stupider and stupider the longer he spent from his book.

Bornes sighed and finally revealed, "I thought I heard a dog or something. It's no big deal."

He looked down to his can of meatballs feeling a bit guilty for a moment before holding out the can to Isiah. "Want to trade?'

Isiah looked into his now half empty can of fruit, then over at Bornes' can of meatballs, nodding before the pair switched cans. "Didn't leave you much syrup though." He dug out a meatball with two fingers, sucking a meatball down to chew hungrily on the delicious protein. "What the hell would a dog be doing out here?"

Bornes took his new can and stared down into it, not really liking being the good samaritan.

"...And that's why I said it was nothing. Because it wouldn't make any sense."

He groaned to himself slightly before putting his mouth to the can and slurping down some slimy a** peaches as quickly as he could, his brows furrowing with disgust.

At least the juice wasn't so bad.

Once he was finished, he put the can on the ground near him, and stood up once more, stretching his arms upward and his tail outward.

Isiah finished off his can as well, tipping the can back to get the last remnants of meat and gravy before tossing it down similarly, pushing up onto his feet. His legs were still sore from too much use, but.. the only way to get where ever they were going was.. well, by walking. Besides, it'd be nice to find some kind of shelter before the sun rose. "You ready?"

Bornes moaned idly as he stretched his legs and stood on the toes of his boots, stretching one more time before relinquishing his breath in an answer, "Always."

He Looked over Isiah again, wondering to himself if he should bother with the turns. He couldn't tell how sore Isiah was, but Bornes was only mildly, so he bent over to pick up the bag again and throw it over his shoulder with a grunt. He stayed still for a moment, momentarily becoming dizzy.

Once he recovered, however, he began to walk again, and it was for the most part silent.

When the sky began to get lighter, Bornes started to scan around for some suitable place to sleep. They'd reached the edge of the city and were working their way into the suburbs. All the houses were in shambles or piles. He didn't see anything for quite a while that seemed stable.

Eventually he saw what looked like a ridge, with a bridge over it. It sloped down, so the hole had probably been a creek at one point. Probably some fancy rich guy's driveway, for the bridge to stay in tact after the fallout.
The ravine had dried up, and Q stood on the edge for a few seconds looking down at what used to be a riverbed before throwing the bag down into it.

Then he carefully slid down the slope. When he got to the bottom, he dusted himself off before taking the bag and pulling it under the bridge with himself.
It wasn't the best place to sleep, but it was better than no coverage at all, he surmised.

Before sitting down next to the bag, he put his sunglasses on, the sun beginning to rise.

Isiah fell silent along with him, trudging after him at a much slower pace. Every once in awhile he would pick up speed just to catch up, but for the most part he remained behind the other, head low, in a partially meditative state.

He let his mind drift for awhile, through the evening, his legs groaning with each step. Before the fall he might have lived in one of these houses with his parents as a teen- big nice house with a pool and a big t.v., a big dining room that nobody ever sat in. He ate in his room or in the kitchen if he was even around for dinner at all at that age.

It wasn't a pleasant time in his life, he surmised. Though this certain situation was not exactly a load of fun either, at least now he had his independence, and he didn't have to lie to a soul. He was who he was and though he'd made his mistakes he was comfortable with that. As a teen everything that came out of his mouth within the confines of his home was some level of a lie, from white to black, depending on who he was talking to, and it was exhausting.

He snapped out of his reflections as he felt the sun warming the eastern horizon, following the hybrid down into ravine, sliding down after him, bracing his feet as he landed. "A regular hilton, huh?"

Bornes tried to get comfortable sitting up, his back against the dirt and dead, dried grass beneath the bridge. It wasn't happening.

"I suppose," he offered, though really he wasn't interested in talking.
He stretched his legs out and brought his arms and torso forward, touching the tips of his boots with a grown before turning on his side, curling himself into somewhat of a ball, his head on his forearms. His tail was the last thing to follow suit, it eventually dragged itself through the dirt between the hybrid's legs and laid there, nearly indiscernible from his pants.

"You're not going to scream me awake tomorrow, are you?" he mumbled, his eyes already closed.

Isiah chuckled a little, curling up against the duffle bag. He pushed things around inside it for a moment before finally getting 'comfortable' on it, yawning. "Well.. Unless I find more beer, probably not." He yawned behind his hand, his legs groaning, happy to be lying down, even if it was on a hard, bumpy surface.

He fell into an uncomfortable sleep rather quickly, snoring lightly against the canvas of the bag, twitching every once in awhile. He slept right through the tic-tic-tic of four dull clawed paws stalking up to the pair, but the cold, wet nose against his cheek woke him with a badly stifled yelp.

Isiah's eyes were blurred with sleep but in the first few seconds of consciousness he was able to make out the outline of a big, shaggy canine. He rubbed his eyes as his heartbeat slowed back down to normal, opening one eye to see if it was true.

The dog was on the larger side, young, maybe 180 pounds when at full weight- but he was skinny, folds of skin hanging off of him in furry wrinkles. He was the color of ten kinds of dirt, from sand to sod, half flopping ears perked with curiosity above his head, seated with his tail thumping idly with interest.

Isiah rubbed the side of his head with disbelief. "Holy s**t.."

Bornes took longer to fall asleep, but once he had, he too slept through most of the sounds. That was, until Isiah yelped and jumped up.

Bornes gave a cold growl and a grumbled "shut up" before realizing that something smelled like death. He opened his eyes, squinting as sundown was only just beginning, and turned toward Isiah with an angry look on his face.

"You said you wouldn--"

Bornes saw the dog and bared his teeth, emitting a low, guttural growl. As Bornes got on his knees, his tail lifted in defiance.

The hybrid would've yelled "what the hell is that?" but he knew exactly what it was, and his body language said it all. He didn't want it near him.

The dog reacted quickly by backing away, tucking it's tail between it's legs, diverting eye contact and folding it's ears against it's head. Isiah gave Bornes a look of reproach, looking over to the dog with a brow quirked upward. "He musta been the howl you heard," he began, scratching the back of his head. "I can't believe there's something alive out here.. even if it's just barely."

The dog laid down, putting down it's head, giving Isiah- since he was the one who reacted in a slightly kinder fashion- it's best puppy eyes.

Bornes glared through his sunglasses, opening his mouth to cut the growl short with a curt exhale after it'd backed off behind Isiah.

The hybrid, in turn, glared at the other man. "Well it shouldn't be alive. We should eat it."

Bornes was annoyed, his tail still almost straight up, and slightly puffed out. His mouth quivered as the man held back a snarl. He did not like dogs, and they certainly didn't need a pet. Food wasn't low now but it would run out a lot faster with another mouth to feed.

Bornes' voice was low, serious, almost ordering. "Where your knife?"
His mouth still hung open slightly and he turned to the dog. If only his glasses didn't block the pure hatred in his eyes.

"I'm not going to eat a dog. If I was going to eat a dog, I would eat you. More meat on you." He gave the poor pup a look, instantly falling in love with it. His heart went out to the thing- he was just scrounging along like they were, and it wasn't in his heart to kill it.. though it probably would have been the gentler, kinder thing to do considering it's eventual fate. But it it had survived this long...

He looked back to Q. "And you aren't either. Stay away from him. The powers that be let him live this long, it isn't our say to kill him."

The dog kept his head down, thumping his tail lightly in response.

Bornes immediately took the joke the wrong way. He snarled, then forming words from it.
The hatred seethed in his voice.
"I am not related to that thing!" he yelled. "I am not a dumb, mindless animal!" his head snapped back to the dog and he let out another warning growl. Maybe he could scare it off. Maybe it would run away of its own and neither of them would have to deal with this.

Bornes was currently kneeling, and his back arched, the hair on his head seeming to poof out along with his tail, though it was much heavier so didn't do so nearly as much.

"I am not sharing my food with that thing!"
He left his mouth open, exhaling viciously at the dog, as if he were trying to imitate a sort of hiss.

Isiah and the dog then gave Q the same strange look of mixed fear and confusion. Isiah's eyes were wide, his mouth shut tight and low, his brow furrowed over his eyes.

"Stop it," he spat after a long pause. "You're sure acting like dumb animal right now." He scooted over to the dog, offering his hand for him to sniff- he was a little too freaked out by Bornes to make a move at first before stretching his neck out to take a few quick sniffs before lowering his head again. "We won't share food with him," he offered, quietly. "He's lived this long. Maybe he can show us a thing or two."

Bornes gave a heavy breath through his mouth in warning to the dog, and quickly turned around, standing and walking away from the two of them.

Acting like an animal. Ha. He'd show them. He'd show them who was the real animal.

After he distanced himself from the dog and Isiah, he crossed his arms over his chest and squinted over the ridge, trying to see what sort of rubble the mansion made. But the house was too far off.

He let out a hard sigh and decided he should try to cool off here instead of wander off and get lost before nightfall. With his back to the the others, his tail slowly began to lower between his legs.

He spat on the ground.
dogs.
He didn't want to even look at them, let alone let one of them "show us a thing or two."
