Izzy nodded quickly and returned his focus.
Meanwhile, at the BPRD base, Bruno had prepared his room for his stay. He was returning from his shower when a knock was heard at his door. Still dripping wet he walked toward his door and cracked it open "How may I be of service?" "It's Manning.."the man said "I have a mission for you..go to Kennedy airport and wait for someone named Jhovanna..she's the new intern. So get dressed and go down to the hangar. I'm going to show you your car!" Bruno, suprised by the sudden assignment goit his clothes on and headed out the door to the hanger. He didn't know his services would be needed so instantly. In his stylish italian threads he met Manning at an expensive BMW "This will be your assigned car Paco..get moving!" Personally, Bruno did not appreciate being disrespected but he quickly dismissed it and left....

She shrugged vaguely. "Lumberjack folk tales, mostly, but there are incidents of assorted chimeras living in the old-growth forests that used to litter the place, but like the Squonks, a lot of them are more west-coast oriented or have specific kinds of forests, like how the Squonks only seem to like tsuga trees. "Really, though, I don't think it was a lumberjack tale that's making people go missing. Wampus cats and glawackuses might drag prey away, but they don't make people vanish." She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose underneath her glasses. "I really hate to suggest this, but have we considered hidebehinds or bogeymen? A forest would be an ideal hiding place for any number of them." Laura let a violent shudder pass through her frame. Hidebehinds were disconcerting to be near by their very nature, and bogeymen were downright unpleasant to be around. She'd only heard of a few times where anyone had ever been actually hurt by one of those two sorts of creatures, but it was always for something mundane, as if the monsters had simply lost it. Laura found it frightening to think of a creature as meek and timid as a hidebehind suddenly leaping from his hiding spot to snap a victim's neck.

"Could be either....I'm just hoping something isn't turning the townsfolk into squonks. Never dealt with a situation like that before," Mo J said as the truck came to a skidding halt on the dirt road they were on. "I guess we are about to find out. We're here kids." Mo jumped out of the truck and began to survey the yard from where he stood. He then turned his attention to Izzy sitting in the back seat.
"Start grabbin' the gear in the back Chief. I'm going to have a look around here for any possible clues. Laura, feel free to join me, or maybe start talking to some of the locals. We're gonna need to get to them eventually." With that, Mo lit up a new cig and headed towards a nearby, rundown depot.

Laura bailed gracelessly from the side door and followed Mo at a trot. People turning into Squonks seemed really far fetched... until she thought about her own theory and the hidebehinds. She looked around. There were very few people present, and not one of them looked relaxed. Laura figured she probably wouldn't be relaxed if she were in their shoes. "I don't see many people," she commented. "Inside, do you think? I hope they haven't been going on-" Laura had been about to say search parties, but she noticed a sign tacked to an old wooden fence that called all able-bodied people to action. She tore the paper off the wall and handed it out to Mo. "This is a problem."

Stepping out of the truck, Zigfreid scanned his surroundings. "This place is creeping me out.." whispering to himself as he moved ever so quickly behind them. Izzy never had this feeling come over him and it felt like he was rusting...smelling the musty odor of the village's atmousphere.

As Jhovanna stepped out of the gate from her arriving flight, she was practically ripping off her fur lined coat. How could America be so hot? True enough it was early fall, but it was already snowing in Quebec!
The airport was crowded, noisy, pushy and one of the most unpleasant places she'd ever been. More than twice was she knocked out of the way by some hurrying passenger or an over excited child. The overwhelming smell of a million different people made her nose wrinkle in discomfort. She was barely in the lobby when she was knocked into a firm chest and sent toppling.
"Ahhh! I'm sorry!" she sputtered picking herself up. SHe looked down and saw a firmly built young man laying below her, obviously startled by the sudden collision. A small sign was flipped upside down.
"Please excuse me. I'm just looking for my employer,"

Looking up, smiling calmly, Bruno glanced at her and got up. He held out his hand to her "I'm sorry..are you alright?" his calm and almost sensual voice rang in the air as he grasped her hand "Are you by any chance..Jhovanna?"

Feeling a small heat rush up in her cheeks, she blamed the hot weather. Pulling herself up from the stronger hand she brushed herself off and picked up her fallen items.
"Ah, yes. Would you happen to be from the Bureau?"

Mo quickly glanced at the paper Laura handed to him, and then returned his gaze to the surrounding area. "Great. Riled up townsfolk. I hope they brought their pitchforks and torches. I'm guessing they are in the woods somewhere. Or whats left of them. I'm sort of at a loss for theories at this point. I'm going into the woods to get some freakin' answers. I suggest one of you heads into town to talk to whoever is willing. I'll have my radio on, so let's count on a rendezvous right here at the depot. Call on the radio in an hour if you haven't heard anything." With that, Mo J squatted down on one knee, touching the old rail tracks, his body instantly becoming living metal. "It's time to earn that paycheck."

Bruno smiled slightly "Yes..my name is Bruno..I am a new recruit and the person to pick you up" his gentle and warm eyes made him seem inviting.
Izzy looked at him with amazement "Wow! Do you want me tag along?"

Laura nodded to Zigfreid but kept her eyes on the page moments longer. "I'm thinking that we oughtta find some people to chat with. Then-" An earsplitting yowl of emotional anguish and heartbreak made Laura jump. She spun and almost stepped on a small creature near her feet. "Jesus," she remarked, looking at the baleful monster. It was about two feet high, and looked as if it might be a cross between a shar pei and a hairless rat. She didn't see a tail, she was more drawn to it's bloodshot, weepy eyes. It yowled again, and Laura jumped back a few inches. It waddled over to her, and one could tell that its skin didn't fit it properly. It rubbed against her leg, and she fought the urge to shy away from it. It was ugly with a capital U, that was for sure. At the same time, she tried speaking to it. "Hi..." she started. It sobbed and wiped its tears on her pant leg. She gestured for Izzy to get over to where she was standing.

Walking over to her, Zigfreid kneeled down and pet the creature in spite of it's horrid appearance. "Hey little one...are you ok?" he spoke in a soothing voice.

The Squonk stopped howling and sobbing at the friendly touch, but it liquefied shortly thereafter. Laura shuddered. "I'm gonna go grab the Squonk gear. I wanna get that little sucker in a soundproof cage so we can figure out what's going on." She went around the back of the truck and retrieved one of the nitrogen tanks with it's hose. She slung it onto her back and held the hose away from her toward the ground. "This'll freeze the next one we come across," she explained. "So it won't melt on us next time."

Mo J started towards the woods at full speed. When he used his ability, his strength was augmented accordingly, so this metallic form did not slow him down at all. It was great defensively, however Mo used his power sparingly. Sometimes it felt like a crutch, and this cowboy liked to think he didn't need any extra help defending himself. But when it comes to the unknown, like running into a forest that may or may not contain some form of monster or demon, it was always best to take the precaution.
The woods were dense, and brimming with flora and fauna. When he reached a small clearing, there was a loud crash sound that halted the agent in his tracks. He looked around for the source of the noise, and turned around just in time to see a large maple tree toppling over, bearing down right on top of him. "Great....." he said, as he braced for impact.
