*Was Alex a cop or a lawyer? Luke doesn't bother himself with the question. This is his chance to impress the guy, and he's gonna take it.* This took place in New York City, right? Where'd it happen? What neighborhood?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 3:04 pm

West Bronx. It's a lower rent neighborhood, but still a decent place. Blue Collar folks.

*Luke frowns. For a moment, Luke just thinks about the type of people who lived there. How they were just average people just... But he cuts it off. Getting upset won't impress Alex. Staying on topic will.*

They're out to prove something. To prove they can do it. Why else would they hit that many people?

And if they did that, it's so they can talk about it. Why go to that much trouble and if you're not gonna brag about it?

*adds* I bet the cops are pissed. Probably pissed that they had to call the DA in, too.

*Alex shakes his head*

I don't think so. Take another look at the pictures. Look at the fingers. If they were out to prove something, why go through the trouble of cutting off the fingers. ALL the fingers. On the right hands of ALL the victims?

*Luke takes another look. Again, he feels sick to his stomach. The man's got a point. It was a weird ******** thing to do, and that's probably why the DA wanted to call it a serial killing.*

*But Luke has a point, too.* What better proof could you have that you did it? I hate to say it, but there's your proof - for anyone that needs to see it.

*Luke feels his chest rise as he makes his points.* It's the absolute stupidest thing you could do - show someone the proof. But it happens, especially if you want to brag to somebody about it.

*Alex nods* A good point, only none of the figers were missing. So tell me. is there an alternative possibility?

*It takes some real effort, but Luke shifts gears. Alright, you don't like that theory. I'll give you another one.*

Maybe it's a signature. It was a deliberate action. They must have wanted it there for some reason.

*Luke stomach lurches again, and he feels his face pale. He's not sure he wants to know, but...* Do they know if they did this ... before or after they killed them?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 3:44 pm

Coroner says that it was all done post mortem.

*Luke nods. He takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.* Whoever's doing it, these are sick ******** people. That's what I think.

I say it means something to the right people, even if we don't know who they are.

*Luke looks to Alex. The man's clearly already got a theory.* Why do you think they did it?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 4:02 pm

Well, what I'm thinking is that the first thing I want the coroner to check for are any markings where someone might have worn a ring. One that perhaps we didn't find.

*Luke considers it... and it doesn't pan out in his mind.* What makes you think someone did this for a ring?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 4:12 pm

Well, I'm thinking that this was a hit. That they wanted the ring, at that the other murders are to make it look random.

No way. If that's true, that must be one hell of a ring. That is a HUGE distraction. To kill THAT many people. Not to mention, the planning and coordination, AND to get away? Nobody'd risk that. Nobody would do that, just for something they could steal off the street.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 4:23 pm

If you ask me, its the level of coordination that makes this look like a hit. If it hadn't been meticulously planned, how could they have managed to escape?

*Luke sighs a little. It's a good point. It must have taken months and months of planning. They haven't escaped yet though. Luke is yet unaware of how passionately he's debating the subject.* You're right. But they didn't account for everything. They left plenty of people alive in the apartment, right? That's a lot of witnesses. -Somebody- saw something. Sooner or later, the right people are going to start talking.

And when they do, the cops need to get them to talk to the prosecutor.
