Nope it's something different. It's from the original creators of Neopets. Their new site is Meteor Games. They're developing a few different things right now. VPN is in beta - it's really cute! Meteor Games

The names are Quiet Calm (ninja), Gamma (pirate), and Audra (viking). You can't actually play with each other but you can add friends and boost each other's energy. You can only really play a few mins at a time because you have limited energy that takes a while to build back. So it's perfect for playing in between other stuff.

hey everybuddy... when did this sos save the stores come up? The items that i got were pretty cool. donated 1000 gold got an item from each. wonder if i can get more than one item. any one know?

I think you can only get the item once from the event. After that you have to go to the marketplace.

S.O.S. allows an item per 1,000 gold with a limit of one
per each of the pictured shopkeepers and you can pick
up as many picket signs as there are remaining stores,
for five- hundred pieces of gold a- piece.
As for me, I spent less gold on the items in the market-
place, so our Gaian economy is well 'n good.
And thanks for the new 'site. I'll be sure to drop by 'n
take a peak sometime.

and these quests are rather monotonous. People on the message board are
talking about different job classes and there's supposed to be an event
somewhere, too.
Could you please toss me a clue? Because it seems that I'm thoroughly lost
right about now.

Yeah I had the same reaction to it at first too and then I became addicted! lol The best thing to do is just keep doing quests - you're right about the monotony. But as I said before it's the perfect little time filler when you are waiting on something else to finish. There's a vpn wiki that has more information on the different quests. wiki

I'm undecided about whether I'm prepared to celebrate
the Viking holiday or if I should continue on with these
quests. Tomorrow perhaps..
Either way, you are most definitely right. This game's
a pleasant time- filler.

Building a boat is a later quest. I think you can start working on it when you get to be around level 10. There are quests you do that lead up to it at that point. smile
