Birdsong -- thanks for the list! I'll check some of these out.
Bestmom -- Wicked is the story of the Wizard of Oz, told from the point of view of the wicked witch of the west... and it's a discussion of the nature of evil, as well. It's brilliantly told, very original, and I can't wait for the next book in the series!
edit: Birdsong, I'm a huge Austin fan tool. Recently re-read Persuasion. Also crazy for Dickens.

I can imagine them both reading and enjoying each other's work and world views.
Okay, embracing my inner nerd... I'm reading Adam Bede right now. Just because I never did and I like George Eliot' work.
Have you been to gutenberg.org and downloaded free books? Thousands of classics both fiction and non-fiction. I'm addicted.

Although, I have to admit that I like the feel of the book in my hands and to be able to curl up with it and handle the pages, so I haven't downloaded too much from Gutenberg. domokun Bookworm <---- PS. I will havw to try to look up Adam Bede biggrin

Love a real book, but I put the downloads on my handheld and I can read in bed at night using the backlight -- hubby can go to sleep and I can read until I get sleepy. It works.

I've had mine for four years now, so I haven't looked at prices lately. I'm sure they've come down though... you can probably enter the market for less than $150.
I'd buy new -- these things do seem to take alot of heavy use. I have the PocketPC -- comes pre-loaded with so much, you don't have to buy additional software and it interfaces perfectly with Outlook. I used to have Palm, but switched.
