The conclusion. The entire series was a built up to a cheap movie that while visually good was just horrible plot wise.
Also they started out with a pretty intesting concept on alchemy; but the further they went the more they tossed out the rules.

That makes me sad, however, if the system impresses me it may be roleplay worthy

I wouldn't. Simply because of the number of people that use it. Oh, I have had some really annoying fights with people because they can't understand chemistry.
You just don't go and make an advance carbon structure when you don't even have carbon.
