But love doesn't last forever, right? Sooner or later, feelings fade, and many couples (mostly married) stay together until death despite not having hormonal pull or whatever anymore. Doesn't a long-term relationship eventually become more about friendship than romance?
I'm not trying to give advice or anything, I'm trying to clear something up because I'm confused and normally would keep my mouth shut when I had no personal knowledge of the subject (and usually when I do) but...confused. confused

I didn't believe anything could last forever. But with Jon I did. That avi art I had of us said "Forever, I Promise" because of that.

@ Kestin, Love is a hard thing to define. Some of it is hormone and some of it's just something you can't really define. It's intangible. Impossible to explain if you've never felt it, and even if you have felt it, trying to explain it to someone who hasn't isn't possible. Love is... impossible to explain because as a feeling it's different for everyone. Also, about it fading, I'm not sure it even really fades it just changes (in many cases it changes to its opposite of hate in the occasions where couples disintegrate due to whatever reasoning), it becomes something different. Whether that is good or bad remains to be seen
As for relationships being more about friendship, well yes, you should be friends with your partner, but it still has to have a romantic edge, you still have to care about each other more deeply than if you were just friends otherwise the relationship would feel really, off. I least I think it would (would you really want to be romantically involved with someone you saw as nothing more than a friend?)
However, I'm speaking entirely from a personal perspective (although as a psychologist I know what a relationship needs in basics to survive, but we aren't going into that)

Having been in love, I can say that while relationships tend to end up more like friendships and compromise, even after one has broken up, the qualities and quirks that made you fall for that person will still evoke the same emotions that they once did, whether stronger or weaker.
But yes, long-term relationships end up more friendship than romance, but there will always be certain moments in that relationship with the other person that will remind one or romance or be romantic. Depending on situation.
If that didn't make sense, let me give you a personal example.
I broke up with my boyfriend of one year and a bit more because we no longer saw one another and I didn't feel the same anymore. Yet, there are still times when I go out to the movies or lunch with him as a friend that I feel like I made a mistake and want to start all over with him.
And then he manages to remind me why I thought a long-term relationship with him wouldn't have worked out in the long run at other times.
In the end, we're still really good friends, albeit with moments here and there where we both feel like we made a mistake.
That being said, all the same, I'm glad I'm no longer with him and I'm happy for him and my best friend being together. Not sure how he feels, but that's just me.
tl;dr Love is a complicated matter that doesn't make sense even when you have experience with it.

Love is just one of those really abstract feelings that drive you to insanity if you try to rationalize it. Wasted a good chunk of my life thus far trying to find it.

Love is illogical, and thus I am opposed to it. If we would've evolved intellect first, emotions would've ne'er come along. But then the world would be extremely different.

@Love topic- OOooo I dont know much about love but What I do know is things only are what you make them, if you want something to last you work and you make it last by giving it your all and putting your heart and tears into it,heh I still really dont know much about relationships other than from what I ve seen in dramas/cartoon and lala...but still all I can say is give it your all. If You want love to be beautiful you make/shape it beautiful just think of it as a bonsai and you are the one with scissors

When you have it, it's amazing.
When you lose it, its the worst feeling in the world.
When someone won't return the feeling it's hard to figure out what to do next.
It's times like these where I wish I just didn't have to deal with emotions. I hate being sad emo
