War's still fairly simple.
The first thing is to take up defensive, learn your resources and your enemies, establish your goals, targets, ect.
Then as soon as it can be afforded you rush the strategetic points, cripple your enemies as quickly as possible, and push them back away from your objective.
Personally, I'm a bit the opposite of Impact. Why go through extra fighting when you can accomplish your means with less? Not to mention, probably less casualties and costs if you minimize the fighting and keep a practical sort of defense up at all times.

I'm just saying, look what happend to Hitler, he became a big enough problem that his neighbors formed the allies.

Hitler could have done better; but it is noted that he had a few mental illnesses.
He would have been better off had he not broken his alliance with Stalin and tried to wage war against them.
What really broke him though was the concentration camps. That's a no no.

There is nothing he could have done not to have them; the guy was racist himself. Maybe if he had a larger nation and more of a military like Stalin he could have gotten away with it.
