Well I watched Torchwood, and it wasn't bad, though I didn't especially want to see Jack snogging some other bloke talk2hand
It's not as compelling or slickly done as Doctor Who I must say. but it wasn't terrible.
not much of a ringing endorsement huh? lol

Alleira Eirwyn Have you seen all of Series 3 Doctor Who yet? mrgreen ninja YES! lol That's what I meant about the few thousand years or so… it may even have been longer, I can't remember… I loved that punchline… great end to the series!! Actually, I find it a little strange also that Captain Jack could almost be a different character entirely in Torchwood and in Doctor Who. He just doesn't have the same personality in each of the series, not the same traits… it's a bit disconcerting. confused From what the little catnun said in New Earth, he's MILLIONS of years old! Maybe BILLIONS if you think about him surviving from now til that future set over 5 billion years in the future! No wonder he looks...a tad different. lol And through all that he still remembered the Doctor & stayed loyal to him.
Jack not being Jack? Well, that sounds REALLY boring. Apparently being all dark & adult means nobody can be mischievous & flirty, I take it. :XP:

lol Hmm, I don't know… two attractive guys, what's not to like? wink …See, that's what's weird about Torchwood Jack… he isn't at all flirty… it's quite bizarre, like he was somebody else. A love from an earlier time was revealed, but it was like he had stopped there… nothing like that in his present life, at all, yet in DW, he's all hyper and flirtatious.
I suspected it was millions/billions of years, Eirwyn, but was too lazy to go and check. I loved the Face of Boe, he was fabulous. heart

I watched them but I still say this is kind of a downer story in general for Christmas. A lot of people die, the good guys aren't necessarily the ones who get out alive (the biggest jerk in the story comes out smelling like a rose), and the Doctor attempts one of his Deus Ex Machina last-minute saves only to fail. Christmas seems like a bad time to start throwing harsh realism into the series. neutral I did find it amusing that after the past two crazy Christmases everybody chose to leave London this year just in case more alien mayhem erupted.

xd …I agree about the exodus from London, that was funny… but as I said before, I was overall a tad disappointed with Voyage of the Damned – for many of the reasons you state, Eirwyn. Ah, well… here's hoping the new series will be better (but… it has Catherine Tate as the companion… xp ).

Somebody at the DWG theorises that Mr. Copper's comment that anyone who had the power of life & death over people would be a monster will be a theme next season. That's pretty much how the Doctor's been behaving since being on his own--one chance, & then he exacts terrible retribution, not to mention an increasing tendency to refer to himself as the only authority around. Without other Time Lords around, he IS beginning to get a bit out of control. This season may slap him back down to Earth a bit.

Hmm, that's true… he needs his companion, more than he realises, perhaps, and there has been a lot more focus on his personal behaviour and motivations recently, I think. That will be interesting. 3nodding
Meanwhile, on the Torchwood front, I finally finished watching Series 1, so I can start catching up on Series 2 now (only two episodes aired, so far). I must say I liked it better as the series went on. I was thrown off balance for a while by that dreadful cannibal episode, but it seems like RTD has to have one stinker of an episode in every series he does… rolleyes (Actually, it probably wasn't badly done, for what it was… it was just that it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the series, being a completely different kind of story… a different genre altogether, I would have said, and certainly not what I was expecting to see.)
The episode Out of Time was just great, as were Captain Jack Harkness and End of Days… much more grown up and involving, in a human interest/behaviour kind of way, making the regular characters more credible, while interweaving well with the science fiction aspects of the stories. I am actually looking forward to Series 2 now… except for wondering which will be RTD's self-indulgent, OTT episode in this lot. lol

have you seen any of the Sarah Jane Adventures series? I've heard it's doing well, & there's a rumor another companion returns next season--some say it will be her again, & if so mention of the other series would probably come up. I'd rather it be somebody else returning, myself. Spread the fun around! biggrin Zoe, maybe! Wendy Padbury still has so much of that delightful, youthful charm!

No, I haven't seen any of the Sarah Jane series, but I may check it out.
Yay for old companions! My favourite of the older ones was Romana, the Time Lord, as played by Mary Tamm. I did like Rose Tyler a lot, though, she fitted the role well, with the particular Doctor(s) she was with.

A Zoe story could be fun because she & Jamie had their memories of the Time Lords wiped when they were sent back to their own times just before the Doctor was put on trial. It could be kinda poignant--he runs into her in her future era, probably a scientist or something, all grown up & her time with him long gone in time & memory...would he reveal himself? Should he? And since she's been near a Time Lord (been on Gallifrey briefly), will the Time War have had effects on her life &/or era? Would all that mess from Series 1 (with an entire era of Earth getting changed) mess up Zoe's life?
