"A few of our neighbours weren't even happy with having a gypsy marry one of their men, so, I can imagine the uproar if those priests were found out." Altaira sighed. Dark priests, after this caravan's children? What a world...

Sindri was soon dozing, and shortly after that, asleep. It'd been a fun day.

Caroline nods, finishing her tea. She sets the cup down and stands up. "It's been lovely meeting ye, Altaira, and thank ye for the tea. I should go collect my lassie, wherever she's gone off to. We've chores to finish up."

Rojiza, too, falls asleep under the blanket of sunshine and with a friend for a pillow.

The festival is over. Mamma is unharmed by the white priestesses.
Kale is whole again. But different. He hasn't spoken to me yet. I wish to speak with him. He's beautiful, in a fiery way. His skin is dark. So different from the ruddy baby I used to play with.

I feel shame. I could not tell the loch beast that the fairies had put a spell on Kale. I could not tell him how much pain and guilt I've endured these last months. I could only stare.

I must find my voice.

Menelie
Caroline feels the familiar tug at her heartstrings and smiles warmly. It had been so long since they'd reordered themselves. She glances at Rojiza, who had looked up from her journal. "Come on, then. Time to go to the fire." She slides down from her bed and picks up her zils and coin skirt. "Get your things, Ro. It's to be a celebration tonight--a fiesta!"

Rojiza had never felt the gypsy pull for the wagon ordering. But she knows it's been a long while. She ties her blue coin belt around her waist and grabs her tambourine. She blows on the page she'd been working on to dry the ink, then closes her journal. She'd finish when she returned.
She smiles when she sees the roaring fire, warm against the crisp night air. Ro and her mother stand near it, waiting for the other gypsies to heed the call.

Valelldia
Valelldia came forward into the light of the fire as her large, extended family congregated. In a deep fold of her skirt was a scroll- but that was for later.

"Sisters and brothers," she started, and the moon answered in a chill, biting whisper of light, "welcome to our wagon ordering ceremony. I think it's important that I... that we- come together now, while we are all here, and while the meij is still blessing us all with love of life, and good health pervasive and beautiful. There is much good in life. Even when it's painful." She fell into a silence unhindered by the awkward, katydid-chirp filled silence. It was only when Oqaia came to her side that the woman nodded deeply and began again, the gold flash of her earrings paler in the waning light.

"There are many gifts to give tonight- but first, the firedust." She handed it to the gypsy at her left to start the circle. "Make a wish, and throw a handful into the flames. It may be aloud, or to yourself... the meij will hear you. In the flames, a vision may appear to you. It will show itself to no one but you- and puzzling what it might be. It may be the future, or it may be a wish. Then, pass the dust along. If you are a newcomer to our midst, please introduce yourself, so that the meij might bestow upon you its blessing, and for us, as well." The dark woman sank down to her knees and pressed two fingers in blessing to the soil. Oqaia, tentative and pale, stayed standing, her wrists pressed together and her hands dangling almost like those of a martyr.

Menelie
Caroline gets the bag of wishdust next, and she knows what to do instantly. She smiles at the newcomers, then joyously scoops a handful of dust and pours it into the flames.
I wish for Rojiza to be happy again.
The flames roar and turn a searing yellow-pink (fire can be whatever color it bloody wants, evidently). Caroline now sees her vision. It's a young woman with her back turned. She has long, dark hair. She holds an infant in her arms.

Rojiza takes the bag from her mother. She remembers doing this once before. She'd wished for a voice, but hadn't gotten it yet. She decides against wishing for a voice again, because the finicky meij might look unkindly upon double-wishing. And she didn't want the powers that be to be angry with her. She looks at her handful of dust thoughtfully before catapulting it with her paw-like hand into the flames.
I wish for...a purpose.
The fire crackles and becomes a lovely shade of bright red. Rojiza's vision appears, but it isn't clear at all. It's shadows and movement and light and implied sound. But the scene seems to be cheerful. It fades and Ro's lips twitch into a brief smile before she passes the bag on.

Valelldia
Valelldia put her fingers to a piece of dark coal that she had been holding in the folds of her skirts. It had appeared in the middle of her scrying bowl the week before, when the gibbous moon had given her a vision. It was not the best thing to have seen. She sighed. So few things were well and happy in her eyes these days. She would have to speak to Silver. Soon.

"Aisrhan, Rojiza, and Anezka? Would you please come forward?"

Menelie
Rojiza's heart jolts. Her? For what? She hadn't done anything. Whatever this was, she'd meet it head-on. She steps forward, head high, furry hands clasped tightly behind her. She draws nearer to the wagon-mother. Her eyes hold a question: Yes?
Her eyes flick around, looking for her friends.

Caroline's breath catches in her throat. She puts a hand to her thick neck as her daughter goes forward to meet Valelldia. Could it be her time? Nay, best not to hope for big things--she'd only be disappointed in the end.
Caroline's lips curl into a smile as Rojiza juts her chin out, almost defiantly. She'd taken after her mother, then. Ro's moods had been so inconsistent lately. First she'd be meek and quiet, then suddenly full of passion.
She shakes her head, still smiling with pride at her young girl.

Oqaia
The three came forward, and Valelldia looked at them each in turn. It was the soft-furred, silent child that her eyes hit upon first. Yes- it seemed right. She would be first.

"Rojiza, would you please do me a favor? Would you pick someone in this assemblage who isn't your mother, and take their hands?"

Menelie
Rojiza is struck odd by this request. She nods, signalling that she would, but she now has to think. This is obviously important, her squirrelly brain tells her, so who should she choose? The first person to come to mind is Anezka. But Ani seems to be in this thing too, so perhaps she should leave her alone.
And then it hits her. The choice is obvious.
She walks over to Kale and takes his hands, her brown eyes expressionless, but at the same time full of emotion. She looks back at Valelldia.

Oqaia
"Then he shall be responsible for you, when the DarHeld comes to pass." Valelldia said, nodding, her voice sweet and sage, for all it's mystery. She was an infuriating creature for the sake of her words, always veiled in so many meanings- but there were few who could hate the woman. There was just something about her which suggested... that she told not of the future for the sake of her own gain, but rather, for the givings of her wagon family. She only wanted to protect them.

With that, the meij accepted the responsibility passure, and bathed the squirrel-girl in a red and gold light. Little sunburst blots of green tore through the meij-light veil, followed by branches of green that snaked around the curtain like the delicate paintings on a silk screen.

When the light cleared, she was... what she was.

Menelie
Caroline very nearly faints at the sight of her precious daughter being enfolded by the Meij. She's growing. And as her now-grown-up little girl emerges from the red-gold light, Caroline has to lean on whoever is next to her in order to not fall over. "Rojiza Fidelia," she breathes. "Oh, niña mía..."
As Rojiza walks back over to her mother, she smiles a beautiful, mature smile. Caroline hugs her suddenly, and tightly. "Eres preciosa," she murmurs into her daughter's ear.

Rojiza herself is rather...disoriented by suddenly being a foot taller. She looks down at herself and her face splits into a grin. She feels like dancing! She wants to laugh and cry and sing all at once. She doesn't try to talk yet. She doesn't want to spoil the beautiful moment. She walks back over to her mother, who hugs her. She embraces back, finding it odd to be on the same level as Caroline. She glances toward Kale, to see if he'd reacted at all.

[I figure this is happening sometime after the wagon ceremony is over.]

It's about midday when Caroline gets the itch to go walking. She puts her book away and puts on her cloak. "I'm going to go for a walk, Ro. D'ye want to come?" She doubted Ro would elect to come--she'd taken to reading and writing lately, and seemed to be deeply entombed in her book.

Rojiza shakes her head. This book was too good to put down now. She'd go walking with her mother later. She turns back to her book and settles down in bed further as the door clicks shut when Caroline leaves.

Lorelei hadn't wanted to agree to Leax's suggestion at first, but it had been tempting. Very tempting. And so finally, she had let Leax take Vanna down to Caroline's.

The fey girl balanced on his shoulders, Leax wove between the wagons to Caroline's, calling out her name. He was excited. He would finally get time alone with Lorelei, could look into her eyes, could speak to her freely. Nevermind that the body he would hold was not really hers.

Rojiza opens the door to her wagon upon hearing her mother's name called. By a man, no less. She arches her eyebrow at the attractive young man standing near her doorstep, Vanna riding piggyback. Her expression is reminiscent of an unamused butler of a rich house. She thinks that this man who is so clearly not Vanna's mother should explain himself, and quickly.

Leax blinked, surprised at seeing the squirrel girl - so recently grown, too! - standing in the door. But Vanna cooed immediately. "Hiiii!" The girl reached out for her friend, giggling.

"Oh, I was looking for your mother," Leax said, recovering his poise quickly as he shifted Vanna down into his arms. "Lorelei asked me to ask if you and your mother could watch Vanna for a little while." He offered the girl a charming smile.

Rojiza shrugs dismissively. Mother isn't here. She nods, though, to the request, smiling at Vanna. She isn't sure she likes the man who thinks himself so charming. Perhaps it worked on others but it wouldn't work on her. She offers her arms out to Vanna. She'd keep her all afternoon if it would help Lorelei. She vaguely remembers what her mother had told her about what had happened on the docks while she was gone with the mermaids.

At first, Leax hesitated. He wasn't sure that he should leave Vanna alone, without Caroline to watch over the two children. But the girl before him seemed responsible enough, and so he handed Vanna over.

Vanna giggled and wrapped her arms around Ro's neck. Then she pointed to Leax. "Daadaa!" she explained, smiling broadly. She was still melancholy a good amount of the time, without seeing her mother's eyes, but Leax had helped. He had helped quite a bit.

Leax smiled at Vanna and ruffled her hair, gently. "I'll be back in a little bit, okay? And then your mother and I will tell you stories. Sound good?"

"Ya!" Another giggle and smile.

Rojiza nods politely at the man. Vanna had given her seal of approval, as it were. She doubts he's the girl's father, but knows how such relationships can arise. She shuts the door to the wagon as Leax leaves. Now what to do? She hadn't had much experience babysitting, but Vanna is a good child. She sits on the bed, settling Vanna in her lap. Maybe she'd nap or something so Rojiza could read again.

But Vanna didn't seem tired. Instead, she crawled off of Ro's lap and around her, to grab at her tail. It was so fluffy! And even bigger now! She wanted to hug it and snuggle it!

But it was tickle-y...

She giggled a little as some of the fur brushed her face, then half-leaped, half-fell onto Ro's tail.
PostPosted: Sun May 13, 2007 4:48 pm

Rojiza jumps, startled. She tries to wick her tail out from underneath Vanna, but she's too heavy. Determined to keep her good humor, she puts her book away again and collects Vanna back into her lap. She tries playing bouncy-bouncy-on-my-knee game that had amused her as a child.

But Vanna was entranced by the fluffy tail. She smiled at Rojiza, and pointed at said tail. "Fluuuuff!"

Bouncy-Bouncy wasn't entertaining her this time. She was out for fuzz
