The night passed swiftly and morning came to the city. Matron's bustled into the rooms and woke the children up, dressing them in new clothing, bright colors on all of them.
Then the children were packed off to the school for their first full day. Classes in the morning went swiftly enough. A brief lunch was served and then off to a wide open room with soft mats on the floor. A tall gruff man in a plain white tunic and pants stood in front of them.
"Allright. Sit down there. You're going to learn to defend yourself. It's a cruel life outside these city walls. But first. You're going to learn how to fall." He pointed at Selma, "You girl. Get up and push me."

Selma withdrew into her quiet state as she always didn in unfamiliar situations. She sat on the mat, looking around the room and wondering what they were to be doing in here. The redhead watched the man uncertainly until he spoke and then called upon her. For a long moment, she just stared at him with wide eyes. He wanted her to go up there and push him.
Slowly, she got to her feet and walked over to him. She just stood there, however, not wanting to push him, as they had been taught that pushing was not nice.
"I thought pushing was bad...." she stated, trailing off uncertainly.

Nikiana wriggled impatiently were she was sitting. She had been waiting for this day to come for some time. But they were to learn how to fall? She'd had plenty of practice with that! Silly teacher. He should teach them something more fun!
The redhead was nearly jumping up and down from a seated position when Selma got to get up and push the teacher. Niki wanted to do that! It sounded like lots of fun!

Selma watched him for a little longer, making sure that that was indeed what he wanted. When she got no indication to do something different, she took a deep breath and put her arms straight out and tried to push him, her heart beating rapidly, as she was still a bit worried that this would get her in trouble somehow.

The man let himself be pushed over falling backwards. As he fell he rotated slightly, hitting the ground at a angle and rolling slightly.
After a moment he stood up and addressed the children. "Who can tell me what I did so I didn't get hurt?"
Tali watched carefully, eyes narrowed. It didn't look hard. It looked like something he had done for all of his life to be specific.
Is so making this up

Blink. Blink. Eh? That was Nikiana's reaction to the teacher's question. "You fell." She stated simply. Duh.

Parmida was also confused. Couldn't he have done that slower? "Did you... spin? As you fell?" Her face was scrunched up in puzzlement. If you fell, you fell. Why did they need lessons on how to fall?

Selma snuck back to her seat, not in the slighest bit interested in answering the instructor's question. She had had enough of being in the spotlight for one afternoon. Instead, she looked at her classmates, wondering if they knew they answer

The instructor nodded at Parmida's answer. "That's right. I moved to protect vital organs and to minimze the force of the fall. If I fell straight back I would have hit my head and bad things happen when you do that. I want everyone to practice falling with partners. Allright?"
Tali glanced at Nikiana. This wouldn't be so hard. "Partners?" He asked knowing the answer already.

Nikiana shrugged at the teacher's response. Eh. Nothing that special, really. Her face lit up as Tali turned to her. Grinning madly and nodding her head rapidly was the answer to the boy's question. Need he really ask?

Partners? Selma looked at the two remaining children. Regardless of who chose who, one child would be left over....she wondered if either Parmida or Vincent would agree to be her partner...

Partners? Vincent was young but he wasn't stupid, the girls would choose each other and who would he be with? Hadn't he had enough practicing falling thoughout his life, he'd fallen off all sorts of things and never hurt himself that badly. Why were they learning to fight? He always got in trouble when he and Tali would get in a scuffle and if they knew what had happened yesterday they'd... well, that didn't matter.
He'd probably just get paired with the teacher.

Parmida blinked. Partners? She glanced around. Who could she pair with? Selma? She looked at Selma, and raised an eyebrow in question.
