Considering that this had been Delta Seven's original plan for the late comers, he wasn't having a moral crisis over the Reaper's new orders. He forced himself back onto his feet and picked up his stake. "Break time's over," he said wearily.

Deli and Thev took the first swings. It seemed they were both aiming for Epsilon Three. Might as well take them down as quickly as possible, and all go for the one target.

"Thea, take the same target as us," he advised. "This'll go a lot smoother if the four of us are working together."

So saying, he rushed at Epsilon Three, stabbing out with his stake. Bait had been dead before, possibly Pinkie had been the same. That made them a little less than human in any case - not that D7 would have acted differently even if that wasn't the case. This was his survival on the line. Pinkie and Bait would have done exactly the same.

Roll Average: 11 / 3 = 3.666... Rounded up to 4.

[Beta 8 is attacking Delta 7]

'WHAT???' Bait thought. 'What's with everyone wanting me dead~!!!' This time he let his anger get the better of him; he didn't want to die...again. He was sick of this, sick of watching people die, and pinkie didn't deserve to be ganged up on again. Neither of them did.

Taking aim with his new gun he'd aquired, he shot at the nearest person, particularly the one giving the most damage to pinkie. He hoped to god he'd have more skill with this than his nunchuks. But, to his chagrin, the stupid gun blank fired. 'Damnit~!'

E-3's face would have looked a little bit dismayed if it'd been visible under her gas mask. It seemed she was getting gang-attacked. Again. What, was that the...fourth time? Yeah, the forth time she'd been gang-attacked since this all started.

Well, she wasn't going to tolerate that. Focusing in on whoever had just stabbed her for the most damage, the figure dubbed Delta Seven, E-3 pulled the stake from her bag. So much for being healer. Well, at least now she could fight back...

And fighting was something she was apparently much better at than healing. On her first attack using the stake, E-3 managed to do the maximum amount of damage the thing could do. She thought to herself with a slight smirk. "Not bad for a piece of wood."

((Weapon: Stake
Roll Average: 10/3 = 3.3333 (and then apparently rolled down, not up?) = 3.
Damage to Delta Seven: 3 x 2 = 6
E-3's HP: 16))

(Oh and just so people know, I'm going out of town tomorrow until late-late sunday, without computer access, for a funeral. So, don't think I just abandoned you guys or something. ^^; )

(GAIA ROLL FAIL. WHY DIDN'T YOU LET ME ROLL IN MY PREVIOUS POST??)

((Weapon: Stake
Roll Average: 10/3 = 3.3333 (then rounded up as directed to in weapons post) = 4.
Damage to Delta Seven: 4 x 2 = 8
E-3's HP: 16))

(( 3.333... goes down. You go to whatever is closest. A .5 and up round up to the next number. Below that rounds down. That's what happened for me in a shadow monster fight when my average was 3.3333etc. I only did 3 damage to it.

So D7 takes 6 damage, not 8. ))

Delta Seven shouldn't have been surprised that both newbies chose to focus on him. He'd expressed the least remorse over the situation. The fact that he'd been the last of the three guys to attack apparently didn't matter. Was he the largest threat? He hmphed in amusement.

Still, there was no way that two against four was going to win in this situation. E-3 already looked half dead on her feet.

"If you want to blame someone, blame the Reaper," he advised. "Or yourselves for signing up on this adventure."

It wasn't like they were just sitting there, allowing themselves to be killed so that four others could survive. It must be instinct, D7 thought. Because even if those two did somehow manage to survive, the Reaper was just going to kill them anyway. What a waste of effort.

Delta Seven struck out against Epsilon Three again.

(I wasn't sure, since it states "Round up to the nearest number." in the stake instructions. So, don't you roll up? They mentioned in here that it rolls to closest, not up? (This is what happens when you switch weapons to something you haven't used before. XD;; ) I see, I see. Sorry! ^^;; )

E-3 felt the other stake-wielder's weapon hit her, and staggered a bit. She was loosing health, and loosing it fast. She didn't have any medical supplies right now either.

...Why was it that she always got the group effort when it came down to people killing each other? Sure, Bait had been targeted out at the field, but so had she, and now she was again. It was extremely irritating. 'Focus, E-3!' She snarled to herself in her mind, readying her stake to attack again.

Her next attack wasn't as good as before, but considering she was practically half-dead, she didn't think she'd done too badly.

He held nothing against either of them. After all after they were done with one they would all gang up on the last one standing or at least give them a good beat down. Theta Seven tried to recover the miss he made but only ended up missing again due to a rather over exuberant swing. He definitely wasn't experienced with fighting and it showed by how he kept missing with his fists or kept hitting himself with his mace.

"Ugh, damn it," he muttered a bit.

(( No worries ^^ I wasn't sure at first, so I asked the GM playing the shadow monster if it went to closest [ie. down in that case] or always up, and they took the damage of closest/down. ))

Delta Seven staggered as Epsilon Three stabbed him with her own stake. For such tiny, seemingly useless weapons, they seemed to do steady damage. Perhaps he had one of the better weapons after all.

He was glad to have Thev at his side, even if he did miss with the gun. "You should grab her stake, after," he suggested. Well, Thev or Deli, since they both had weapons that either missed or hit themselves. Deli at least had switched to using his fists, rather than risk hitting himself in the eye with his nunchucks. Probably a good move right now. In such a close space, all the strikes seemed to be doing more damage than usual.

"No offense, Pree," he finally said to E3. "But I don't know you, and I plan to live to the end of this."

Sparing her life wouldn't help any of them. And he certainly wasn't about to try and take on the Reaper to escape having the play his little game.

Nursing the stab wound he'd just received, Delta Seven struck out to return the favour.

(Alright, I see. Thanks for telling me~ ^^ )

E-3 felt the point jab her a bit, but not enough to really do anything drastic to her health. One of the others had tried to punch her, but missed. It seemed the stakes were surprisingly damaging for being hunks of wood.

"If I've already died once before, I will not sit by and let it happen to me again. I will fight." She said through gritted teeth, ignoring the pain in her damaged arm. If she survived, she could deal with that...later. Yeah, later. What's the point of nursing a wound instead of focusing on attacking when you weren't sure you'd live long enough to be bothered by the damage?

Taking a deep breath, she prepared to attack again. Apparently, E-3 could fight with a stake, go figure. She managed another hefty blow. Then tried to catch her breath. For a dying girl, she wasn't too bad of a fighter.

((Now we see why it is a roll of horror. Theta Seven you blow at this trying to hit people thing..))

Okay he would get her this time. He would hit her good and he would at least feel some sort of satisfactory impact but came up empty. Right now he was just glad that he didn't hit himself as much as he did with the mace - it'd be embarrassing to punch himself in the face on top of missing all the time. Ugh.

He let the others talk right now he was grimly concentrating on trying to actually land a hit.

The girl was starting to look weak. their attacks had been more potent than he expected.

Finish her.

But . . . He didn't want to do the killing blow. He could consent to this for survival, but . . . Clearly Deli did not have the will to fully and outright kill someone. Not yet.

Ingrate. If I was in control . . . The voice growled in a low tone, almost like a large cat.

The growls were drowned out by the sounds of multiple shots, and Deli swivelled his head towards the second target to attack. He looked fit and ready to defend himself . . . Less guilt on his part.

Deli didn't have it in him to speak, only to leave his partners to take care of the girl while he distracted this guy. With his fist.

Davii had taken enough shots - his turn!

Delta Seven cursed as a bullet tore through his side. He dropped to one knee, coughing, one hand pressed firmly against the wound as though he could stop the bleeding. It was a little too late for that.

It seemed that Delta Seven wasn't going to see the end of this fight. He seethed and swore to himself. So much for making it to the end - two once-dead-and-revived interlopers were going to be the death of him. His one consolation was that Pree would bite the dust before he did.

... Or so he thought, until Deli suddenly switched targets, leaving Pree alive and D7 still bleeding out.

"What the ******** *cough* ********, dude?" he snarled. "Grow some balls."

It seemed Thev was the only hope of everyone getting out of here alive - Deli couldn't finish anyone off, and Thea was hanging back as much as possible. If they took out Thev next, then everyone would die when the Reaper returned and the newest 'trainees' were still alive.

"I ain't going down quietly," he told Epsilon Three. In what would likely be his final strike, he lunged at the girl with all of his remaining strength.

E-3 took a massive blow from the stake wielder boy. She grimaced, about to fall to her knees, and coughed. She looked up, her hand tightening around the stake. If she was going down, to quote him, she was taking someone down with her.

She brought up her stake, managed to get her feet under her, and lunged forward, preparing to do whatever she had to do to survive. She found herself saying as she went in for her last attack, "I'm sorry. I wish it hadn't come to this..." And brought down the stake.

How could she have just done that? HOW COULD SHE? E-3 knew what she'd just done, and it scared her. She was a monster...she was like one of them. The rulers of this game. How could she...?

Delta Seven fell backwards under the force of Epsilon Three's attack. On his back, he struggled to get an arm under him, to get back up, continue the fight. He wasn't done yet! He had to make it...

Only it seemed that wasn't going to happen. The darkness pressed in - for a moment Delta Seven thought the shadow monsters were back. His gasped breaths came faster as less oxygen entered. A wet wheezing noise accompanied each breath. At least one strike must have punctured a lung. There was no hope for him, no last minute escape or miracle med kit.

"It's a game, kid," he forced out between coughs to Epsilon Three. "No one worth their salt is gonna... roll over and take it."

Not that she would make it out of here any more than he would. If she wasn't already close behind him, the Reaper would still have finished her off when he came back. It was almost a shame. The girl had at least had the guts to kill someone to save her own life - more than at least one of his own 'allies'. Delta Seven had to trust that Thev would have the stomach for finishing things. The Theta was always talking about someone he wanted to get back to and protect. He'd be able to do it, to get back to that special person.

"Guess I'll be... seeing you soon," he told E3.

Rolling to one side, he glanced about through the darkness encroaching on his vision. "Thev," he called. A sense of urgency overtook him. He knew his own fatality well. "Thev!"

One bloodied hand rose in the air. It shook badly. Clutched in Delta Seven's fist was his stake. "You're gonna... need this..." he rasped out. "Survive. Whatever... it takes..."

Another coughing fit overtook him. He could feel the thick liquid bubbling up in his throat, spraying the inside of his gasmask. The last thing he ever smelled, he realised, was going to be his own blood. That didn't seem so unexpected.

Perhaps Delta Seven really had signed up for this after all. As he lay on his side, vision fading, some part of him murmured that he'd never expected for this to end any other way. Now or later, here or elsewhere, part of him seemed at peace to be dying in battle. He'd gone all out. He'd been true to himself and his desire to live. He hadn't run away or hidden. And maybe that had gotten him killed... but it also meant... he'd lived.

On a stone floor, in a small dark cavern somewhere under the surface of an unknown island, Delta Seven died.

Theta Seven felt ice water fill his gut as he watched Davii die right before him. He cared more than he thought he would as he watched Davii die and it almost brought a tear to his eyes but he swallowed it down into his gut where the metaphoric ice water froze it into a hard lump as he hurried forward and claimed the stake that was offered to him, "I got it. Take care wherever you're goin', buddy," he said solemnly to his friend before he whipped his head around to Epsilon Three. He'd missed so many times but now he wasn't planning on it. He had to finish her off for his friend.

He stepped forward and a smile lit up behind his mask - a chilling smile if it would have been seen, "Sorry, babe, but your chances are pretty slim, too. You put up a good fight but now it's time to meet your maker."

With that he lifted the stake and stabbed at her as hard as he could.
