Isiah shrugged, folding his hands behind his neck again, his pinkies rubbing against the ink that was hidden beneath bright red hair. "Well.. I dunno," he mused. "I never really thought about it." He thought through all the men he'd been with in his mind- it was a short list. At least, the men that he was in RELATIONSHIPS with was a short list.

"Big," he began. "Not.. well, like that, but it helps. You know. Muscled. I can't tolerate sissy boys." He shrugged. "Stable. Smart helps. Good sense of humor." He licked his lips. "Black."

Bornes cocked his head slightly.
"Trying to find the man you wish you could be?" he would've snickered except he was trying to imagine a gay couple as Isiah had described it. And why would race matter?

If Isiah wanted someone more well built than himself, Bornes would shudder to think of meeting his boyfriend. Although, would that make Isiah the catcher? He grimaced at the thought. Isiah wasn't soft like that, was he? His green eyes couldn't help but look over and try to judge him again. Bornes was drawing blanks now.

Why did Isiah have to be so condescending? Just when Bornes thought he'd figured someone out, someone so simple turned into someone convoluted and more detailed. He closed his mouth in thought and wondered what Isiah was really like. He'd have all night to think about it anyway.

Isiah did get pretty excited about drinking... Perhaps he partied at bars. Bornes was no stranger to those. Though he didn't seem the type, he often wandered to the taboo fetishist bars and played around, acting like the big pimp at the parlor. It was something he did with the right amount of alcohol in him, but it was fun to play all the same. Part of him wanted to excuse himself that he was limited to those places explicitly because of his... Physical state. But he knew somewhere deep inside he probably only went there because he wanted to be reassured that all people were beasts of some type. And having people who actually weren't turned off by the... noises... he made while lusting didn't hurt at all. The first time he was with a comparatively normal person he'd frightened them off and had embarrassed himself. He had somewhat of a better control over it now. He cocked his head to the other side, trying to think of his own, actual, type of person he liked. Wanted to be in a relationship with.

He couldn't really think of one. His head sank slightly.
"I was never really interested in a long-term relationship. I don't think I could have one."

He narrowed his eyes. "But if I did have a type of person I liked for their partnering qualities I suppose maybe... Someone with intelligence, vigilance, similar interests of my own...Confidence would help as well."
He'd met girls with so little self-esteem and many girls with personality problems and those who wanted to kill themselves. He did appreciate being a role model somewhat, but he doubted he could be a lifetime partner with one. "Stable is a good quality," he added aloud in the afterthought.

His face went stark when he figured out what type of man that made him.
He wanted to marry himself. Jesus, Bornes. What a lameass. He gave out a disappointed sigh.

Isiah chuckled a little. "I'm all the man I want, frenchie," he offered quietly. "I don't need someone to 'complete' me or fill my ego. Just someone to have fun with and who understands me, I guess. And I don't think I could date someone who wasn't into fitness, I'd drive them insane."

He walked after him, shoving his hands into his pockets. "It'll be hard to find a woman with all that," he offered with another sadistic chuckle. He was not exactly fond of women. "Hard to find a man, too, but less hard than a woman." Women, by nature, according to Isiah, were unstable.

Bornes gave a slight hmph at being called a frenchie, but let it go. After Isiah was done with his responses, Bornes came back with, "Then it is a good thing I am not looking for a relationship, I suppose."

Bornes shifted the bag uncomfortably for a moment, before stopping and switching which shoulder it was propped on, rolling the recently released one with a few groans mixed with breaths of relief.

When he started to walk again he took his sunglasses from the top of his head and slid them onto his shirt collar, then cracking his neck slightly.

"Both sexes are just as easy to get a one night stand with though, right?" He turned to Isiah, forcing a laugh at his joke.
Bornes wanted to be friends with this man. He'd never had a real friend before. But at the same time, he was too afraid of being judged worse than he was. With the whole gay thing that just happened, he considered his recovery a miraculous one. If it even was a recovery. Hadn't he wanted to get the man back earlier?

He was confused.

Bornes turned to a serious tone, looking ahead.
"It doesn't bother you," his voice lowered in volume, "That we're all alone out here?"

Isiah laughed out loud at the first question, shaking his head back and forth. "I GUESS, but I haven't really tried really hard to get a woman in the sack so.." He chuckled inwardly just at the prospect.

At the man's second question he paused, shoving his hands into his back pockets. "A little," he began, rolling his neck on his shoulders. "But.. in many ways.. " he shrugged. "It's good. No enemies here. Just you and me."

Bornes quirked his head slightly. "I meant men must be just as easy as women to..." He shook his head. "Nevermind."

He sighed through his nose. "It's weird. I usually work alone but there's always people..." his head leaned toward the left, ".. Around. Watching." He looked down and kicked a pebble. "It's awkward. I never thought it would affect me this much."

He turned toward Isiah. "You really don't care?"

Isiah's brow furrowed forward a little, taking a deep breath in through his nostrils. He did, at some level, care that they were now alone. It changed everything, for sure. The game he had known for years and years was over now, and he felt.. free, now. No expectations to live up to, no routine other than the primal needs of survival.

Sure, he would miss the more.. carnal pleasures of human companionship. Even the gentle, tender parts of having a lover were something to be considered, but.. He had always associated such relationships with risks. Especially now. The ink across his body and metal embedded in several places ached just at the mere thought.

"Well. I've got you," he said with a pause. "And you might not be totally human but.. you're something."

Bornes brows furrowed a bit, almost hurt. "I consider myself very human," he said softly. But he knew Isiah didn't mean it to be insulting. Or at least, Bornes hoped he hadn't meant it. This seemed like a bonding moment, so he let it slide.

"I'm a man of ritual." He looked up at the sky, his voice lowering again as his pace slowed. "I fear what freedom will do to me."

Isiah gave him a long look, biting the inside of his cheek. He was trying to read him in the dark, and he failed. He sighed again, licking his lips. "We all are, once. But we're adaptable creatures. We can adapt to this just as well as we could adapt to the pointless scheduling in the vault."

He looked over to him after his sentence was finished. "Besides.. we have a pretty good schedule going anyway. Sure, the itinerary is short.." Walk. Eat. Walk. Sleep. Walk. "But it's one nontheless."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 30, 2008 7:15 pm

"I don't know," he said. He forced a chuckle, looking over to Isiah. "I've been taking orders in one way or another my entire life. I believe I'm only capable of adapting partially. Like a feral dog. They live out in the wild, but they still need to come back into town to steal dog food."

He sighed. "I suppose you are better company than the vault. But I think..." He narrowed his eyes, the green beginning to glow faintly in the short silence. "I think you are a much more resourceful man than I."

He took a few more steps before dropping the duffel down. "Now what do you say to taking a break for food?" he gave a brief grin before turning and digging around in the bag, his tail wagging idly. That tomato soup had failed him too quickly. He'd have to eat something more substantial if he didn't want to collapse.

Isiah sighed, rolling his eyes back. He didn't believe for a second that a man who killed people for a living couldn't adapt. Most people in that sort of profession- the type where you get yourself into a lot of trouble- have no choice but to easily move from one situation to another to avoid danger. He wouldn't bring it up. Whatever the man believed was his to believe and it wasn't his place to argue. At least, not on this point.

He smiled broadly as the other suggested a food break- even after the spam he was starting to get hungry himself. "Sure is nice not to be short on food, huh? At least for now." He plopped down beside the duffel, letting the other dig, peering over to glance inside.

Bornes dug through the bag, looking at various cans momentarily before shoving them aside as well and pushing further in.

Eventually he found some meatballs, and upon reading the label his tail immediately doubled the speed of its waving. Bornes' brows quirked, but otherwise there was no indication he had become excited. He looked over to Isiah.

"Where's your knife?"

He waited for Isiah to give him the weapon, but during the wait his body stiffened and his tail stopped. He leaned back as if in concentration, his eyes glowing their slight green as he did so. He went silent for a few moments, the can in his hand.

After a time, he frowned slightly. "Did you hear that?" he said. It sounded far off to him, and if it was far off for Bornes, Isiah probably wouldn't be able to hear it, but there was no harm in asking, he supposed.

Isiah reached behind him to his belt to pull the bowie off wiht a click, pulling it free from it's sheath to hand it to him, handle first. He ignored the other's sudden pause, digging through the bag himself, stopping in his noisy work after the question. "Hear what?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 05, 2008 7:29 pm

Bornes waited a few moments before relaxing, almost as if defeated. He took the knife and plunged it into the can, trying to play off like he didn't care.

"Nothing, I guess."

He could've sworn he'd heard a howl, from a wolf or otherwise, but it must've been his imagination. If there were no people there certainly wouldn't be any large predators. Besides, wolves didn't live around here. It was the city. Or... it had been the city.

After he'd opened the can, he tried to wipe the blade the best he could on the ground. When that failed, he moved over and used the canvas on the bag to wipe the blade clean of tomato sauce, before handing it back to Isiah.

Once the weapon was returned, he removed the lid of the can with his fingers and then began to pry for his precious, precious protein.

Isiah paused to roll his eyes before continuing to dig through the bag, finding himself a nice.. well.. a can, anyway, of fruit before peeling the lid off. He pondered for a moment whether he should pour out the syrup, but.. really, was there any reason to? He took a long sip from the edge of the can, slurping up a peach slice to chew once or twice before his head quirked up, eyes wide.

"Wait," he paused a long moment in silence. "... Nevermind."
