I live in a heavily populated area where high schools are half a mile away from each other and the enrollment is over 2,500. My school is actually one of the smaller schools in the area with around 2,000 kids.
However, I just found out that we have the largest choral program in the state of Virginia with over 350 students.
It's really wierd. There's a school that has over 3,000 people nearby and they only have eight men in chorus, where we have ninety-six. It just is so strange and sad to see a school whose chorus program is dying when the school itself is so huge.
So anyway, how big is your choral program, choral nerd guild? How about your school?

Where I am at we dont have "Choral Programs", we have Show Choir Programs because Showchoir is HUGE in the area that I live in. Our school has about 2657 students and it's rated for 2700. haha, over populated. I'm not sure about the other 2 highschools in our area though. The Showchoir program has about 230 people invovled (including choreographers,tech,and volunteers) and 200 actual performers. We have 5 main Showchoirs. Those are Chamber/Powerhouse(advanced mixed), Madrigals/Sound Sensations(advanced womens), Soundwaves(intermediate mixed), Decibelles(intermediate womens), and Men@Work(mens,obviously haha). Each choir consists of about 40-50 singers. and the Men@Work consists of all the guys for Powerhouse and Soundwaves. Showchoir is the BIGGEST thing in our city and more people actually care and come to our shows than the football games. It's like how normal highschools have football rivalrys we have Showchoir rivalrys. haha. We have one of the largest Showchoir programs in the nation, the Largest in California, and one of the most EXPENSIVE Showchoir program out there. So yea, we have a large program. heheh

Wow! eek Y'all have one big choir. Where in VA because I live in Salem, VA and we only have about...um...counting middle school and high school that'll be 6 choirs....171 people I think probably less...The high school only has about 10 guys and the middle school only has 5. We're pretty small around here though.

Hah, your choirs sound all so biiiiiiig... erm... My school has about 80 people every year... which is over half the school xD
I feel so... so... rural!

I think that our school district has like over 700 people in all of the various choirs... I know that the choir that I'm gonna be in next year (our entire district's TOP choir... yay me) will have like 90 people in it... a little too big for my taste, but it's not my decision....

Ah, no wonder you live in NoVa. I live in Southwestern VA. We're in the mountains. Band and Football's more our thing 'round here. We did get a couple more guys for next year. I'm quite excited.

Our choir is up to almost 50 members now. Huzzah! This is very exciting for us. The music program at my school will be in it's 5th year this year, so the growth has been exponential since the "original 8" in Doc's first year there. The concert choir, like I said, is almost 50 people, and is very very very unselective. Almost anyone can be in Concert choir. However, now that we're bigger, Doc is going to be able to start cutting people, so we will have less people who are completley tone-deaf/don't care the slightest bit about choir. We also have a chamber choir that consists of about 10 people that does more advanced and more specialized music. There are a few guys that are working on starting a men's a capella group as well. So our program is growing. smile
In high school there were 43 of us. We were the smallest choir at state in the 4A division (you needed 40 to go) and we still managed to come in 9th, 3rd in sight-reading. biggrin I miss my high school choir... we were awesome.

In my school we have about 30 people, tops. There's a 'core group' of about 12 of us, who go to all the extra rehearsals and stuff (basically the people who are there to sing and not to keep warm.) I don't know how many people are in all the choirs in my area. Judging by the size of my school (the biggest in the area) they probably aren't too big.

My high school has about 4,000 students.
I'm guessing maybe 200 are involved with one or all of the choirs.

We have about 250 students in at least one choir, which I guess is pretty good for a school of 1300 :]
Our chamber choir is HUGE. We have like 40 people in it. It's kind of ridiculous, lol
