It's pretty simple -- introduce yourself to the rest of the guild. Never mind we probably know you from Music:C/J/B.
I suppose I'll begin. I'm Holly, a 16 year old girl from Alabama (ack!). I play the trumpet and sing, a bit (soprano). I enjoy reading and plan on being a librarian. I tend to be cynical and sarcastic, so ignore things that seem angry; they probably aren't. I'm fond of many composers, but most of them are Romantics. I hate minimalism.

A friend of mine "composed" a piece for piano entitled "Tribute to Philip Glass". There was an instruction at the top of the page. "While playing, imagine the keys to be Mister Glass' face." I concurred wholeheartedly.

I'm 19 and female. I currently go to college in Virginia, and my family lives in California. I play the cello; my favorite genres of music are (in classical) Romantic, late Classical period, and some modern music. I tend to like individual pieces, not composers, except for Dvorak, Mahler, and...eh, I'll add more here later. My other favorite instrument is the horn. I love horn music. Why? Looooong story. >_>
I prefer playing with an orchestra, but since my college is so small, we don't have our own orchestra, just other musicians. (I had another cellist as a dorm neighbor last year. That was fun.) So to get my large ensemble performance fix, I have to go across town to another (larger) college, which has a wind ensemble. They're all winds, brass, and percussion, but they accept desperate string players. We currently have four violins which play oboe parts, two basses which play tuba parts, and one cello (me) who plays from a second bassoon part...let's just say I'm glad we have a real bassoonist for first. And they're putting together a string ensemble for next year, yay. I'm also trying to get into the local community symphony orchestra. My private lessons teacher is their principal cellist, which should help. :D

Hi : ) I'm new.
I'm 16 years old, from ohio.
Uh, I play sax, flute, and clarinet. I like jazz, that's mostly what I play now. I used to be a classical saxophonist, but I crossed over ^ ^;
Um, learning piano now, some oboe too. Hoping to learn how to sing (I can almost do that now : / ) soon.
Let's see, I guess that's it.
I'm in my school's marching/concert band.
Played Bari sax for jazzband last year, hoping to get her again this year.
Play tenor, clarinet, and some flute in a jazz combo.
: / Orchestras don't want sax players, and I don't meet their requirments for flute or clarinet.

I don't know about minimalistic classical but I imagine minimalism could be employed properly there, too....as for Philip Glass...well, I have one of his works and I enjoy it quite a bit, I don't know if you'd consider it a minimalist piece, though. It's a concerto for saxtet and orchestra. biggrin

Let's see...I'm the head mod here and the primary enforcer of the stupidity clause >_>
I'm 17 going on 18 (July 20th) and I'm from Texas, male as most of you already know.
I....can't play any instruments. I have a guitar, but I have a complete lack of any sort of natural talent so I can hopefully get some lessons when I move, and I'd like to learn piano and saxophone. sweatdrop I'm a fan of pretty much any kind of music that's good, or great. Including jazz, blues, and classical (Romantic era primarily, although I still need to explore the others a bit more).

I think I am going to get along great with all of you- the best of the musicians and the C/B/J in the one small forum!
I am a pianist/organist/composer studying for my Batchelor of Mathematics at Melbourne CBD RMIT. My musical preferences can be rather varied, but often rather polar at the same time. The romantic and baroque eras are what I favour personally, and as an artist myself my opinions strongly represent this. Thus, I can be quite passionate about aspects of composition that I even don't partially like.

Hi, I'm Caroline and I'm fourteen and live in Denver, Colorado. I play the French Horn in the Colorado Honor Band and the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra. I also spend time composing. I like string quartets because there's no transposition as long as you can read tenor clef. My favorite composers are Tchaicovsky, Beethoven, and Mahler and Wagner(!!), and my favorite key is A minor. For more comtemporary music, I like Copland and Ravel, and for extremely comtemporary stuff I like what Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor, and Bela Fleck have done with crossing the lines of classical and bluegrass.

Hi, I'm Sean. i'm 17 years old, and I play the piano. mostly jazz, but also rock, pop, contemporary, whatever i'm listening to. i don't really read music. I sing a little bit too. I've been playing for about 13 or 14 years, and i love music. i'll listen to almost anything (even country). but there is some music i hate like new age pop sensations, most hip-hop, heavy grunge, and most of the classical romantic period (basically, everything by Chopin) but i'm a huge jazz and classic rock fan. I guess i am a bit of a music snob, but i don't care. it's all good.

I did not see this! surprised
I'm Stephanie, I'm 18, from New Hampshire, and I'm an aspiring soprano. Yeah, yeah, like the rest of the world. It sucks that there are so many sopranos out there. If you're a mezzo (or a male), there are way more singing opportunities because there are fewer of you. But anyway, I love opera, and hope to have a career in it. I'm going to be majoring in Voice Performance/Pedagogy next year at Plymouth State University, but will try and transfer ASAP because they don't have a Bachelor of Music; it's only a BA. But they have an excellent music program nonetheless. smile I like pretty much any type of music; I don't usually go for rap or country but there are a few of each of those that I enjoy. Favorite composers include Puccini, Chopin, Palestrina, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Holst, Faure, Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert (or as I like to call them, the Shoes)... Name a composer, I probably like at least one thing he or she wrote... although that gets less likely as we head further into the 20th century. xd If something is atonal, I like it to make SOME sense. I've been playing the piano since age 4, but it's not my main passion. I have perfect pitch, which makes sightsinging a breeze, but sightreading on piano a pain in the a**. Rehm and I (And DNBMathGuy, who isn't exactly in the guild, but whatever) are currently working on a jazz trio so we can go gigging around various restaurants and such. 3nodding Should be fun.
edit: I also love film editing and I want to make a movie trailer someday. I love matching film clips up to music. Not surprisingly, I love making Anime Music Videos when I feel inspired. smile
