Welcome to the theology guild! All new members may introduce themselves here. Here are some suggestions of what you may want to share with the rest of the guild:
Name Age Location What you are studying in school Why you are interested in theology What faith you belong to/what you believe Hobbies
I'll start by introducing myself. My name is Valerie, I'm 23 years old and a recent college graduate (I have a BA in History that isn't worth anything for finding a job, LOL). I am married to Antony, known on Gaia as Wessoman (though he never posts anymore). I live in downtown Nashville. I am interested in theology because I understand that what people believe is crucial to understanding historical developments and also present conflicts and developments in the world. Although I was not raised Jewish, I believe the Jewish faith most closely resembles how I have always approached my beliefs about God. I plan on beginning my conversion as soon as I can decide how observant I intend to be (I couldn't go through the process in college because I had too much coursework to focus on the study involved in the conversion process).
I used to draw comics a lot, in fact, I was originally an art major in college. I still draw sometimes. I read a lot (though not much in the way of fiction). I watch a lot of anime (mostly older stuff from the 70s and 80s).
Politically, I consider myself a moderate, though I'm socially liberal. I am a feminist, and I tend to try to use inclusive language when speaking about God. However, I believe feminist views and religious views are reconcilable without requiring the abandonment of tradition and core beliefs. I've spent a lot of time in college courses trying to prove that feminist belief in equality of women, and religion, even the most orthodox religions, are not mutually exclusive.

Name: My Given Name is Christopher, though I prefer Rook or Rookherst. I'm 20, and I live in Virgina, although I was raised in Texas. In my private life when not being "intellectual" i'm nothing but a "Good 'ol boy"
Currently I'm not enrolled in school. After a few mishaps in my life I had to drop out and Move out of Texas. I moved back in with my father, not only to get back on my feet; but to make up for lost time we never had in my childhood. At present I'm making plans to get back into school and study for a Business Management degree. I also have plans to attend a Nearby gnostic College, for spiritual education.
My interest stems not only from a love of History, but a Personal conviction that Even in all things false and fiction there is truth, By examining things to a degree as to discover origins, and correct interpretation I hope to discover the truth in all things.
I often Claim Deism and Gnosticism as my "religion". This isn't entirely accurate. These are more founding of my world views and Ontological opinions. In truth My "religion" is personal to me, and has no real name. It is deeply complex, and simple at the same time.
My Hobbies include anything from intellectual pursuits to mindless Geekdom. Chances are if I'm not on Some website Debating, writeing, or reading written art; I'm probably on some MMO playing it up.

Name: well not my real one, because I don't know you people that well stare , but you may call me Light.
Age: 19, just turned too.
Location: what? why? California, thats about as much as I am currently going to give.
What you are studying in school: Well I don't have a major yet, however I was thinking photography.
Why are you are interested in theology: hhhm, well I have christian beliefs but not nescessarily christian. I believe that correct theology helps us to under stand the Bible more correctly and not just spew out anything we feel like it is telling us, but what conclusions we can draw from it by studying it.
What faith you belong to/what you believe:I have christian beliefs but I am not nescessarily christian, because a christian is a christ follower and I don't do so good of a job of that.
Hobbies: the computer, video games, and thinking....and sleeping when exhausted...it just fells really good especially with the fan on.

I guess you can call me Moonlite.
I mostly study arts, but I love reading up on history and peculiar physics and math.
As far as art goes I like to play around with fractal art, surrealism and abstract sculpture. I also make music, and play various instruments including hand drumming, guitar playing and the occasional native flute!
I'm an anti-theist. I also have been trying to study the dharmic relgions (hinduism, yoga, buddhism, etc.). I generally consider myself buddhist. My interest in theology I guess comes from trying to understand the human "condition." As much to expand my own views and outlook on life I'd like to try and understand why others believe the wacky thigns they do.
I live in Maryland...
I guess that's all for now.

Name, Age, Location -- I don't give these out online. What you are studying in school -- I majored in vocal music performance in school. Now I hover between being a professional singer (when I can get a gig) and being a homemaker. Why you are interested in theology -- I've had to engage in a great deal of study as an adult, that most observant members of my religion learn as children. I'm still a rank beginner in so many ways, and I find it a fascinating journey which I don't want to end, just because I complete conversion. This is learning that I want to continue doing, lifelong. What faith you belong to/what you believe -- I'm an Orthodox Jew. I'm also a feminist. I don't see a contradiction. EDITED on Thursday, 18 January 2007 to add: I'm an Unorthodox Jew. Go on, click it, I dare you! Hobbies -- I've got a very time-intensive religion, a career, and a house to keep. There's little time for hobbies! But when I do have spare moments, I spend them with my bashert (my Significant Other -- which means husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, fiance/fiancee, and so on, just in case anyone isn't aware of the term) and with our cats. I also spend a fair amount of time working out, and have lost 55 pounds over the past 10 months. I still have a little way to go, but I'm extremely proud of what I've accomplished thus far.

Name: Archel
Age: 20
Location: Puerto Rico
What you are studying in school: Computer Engineering, but of course I don't let my schooling get in the way of my education.
Why you are interested in theology: I'm obsessed with knowledge of any kind.
What faith you belong to/what you believe: I believe everything is possible, therefore I believe in nothing. Believing in something means you don't believe in the opposite of that, therefore making something impossible.
Hobbies: Skateboarding, Writing, Reading, Graphic Design, Researching, Video Games, Surfing the Web, Driving aimlessly with good music on, Sex.

Divash What faith you belong to/what you believe -- I'm an Orthodox Jew. I'm also a feminist. I don't see a contradiction. Me neither. biggrin Though a lot of people seem to think it is a contradiction, including some Jews (like the Hebrew professor at my school -- who gave my friend Jonathan a hard time all semester because he was Orthodox, and she though that meant he was sexist and misogynist)

There's a Chabad on campus, and I find it one of the most welcoming places for me. I could never live the Orthodox lifestyle, but I respect it thoroughly. Out of curiousity, Divash, are you shomer nagiya (sp?)? For those here who don't know Hebrew, that means that you (general) don't touch members of the opposite sex.

Heh, I have no idea why I felt like I had to mention that...

Um... I'm the one who decides what I believe. Especially a professor to a student; and especially a Hebrew professor, who -- if he was actually interested in learning -- could actually go read the source texts for himself to see clearly that the Jewish religion isn't sexist or mysogynistic. RoseRose: Yes, I'm shomeret negiah (shomeret being the feminine form, shomer being the masculine form). Also shomeret Shabbat, shomeret kashrut, and shomeret tzniut. The word 'orthodox' means 'following the laws', not 'belonging to a particular synagogue'. wink

I think she had serious issues with Orthodox men due to some kind of previous life experience, but still, that shouldn't have anything to do with how she treats a student. It's really funny that she should presume this particular individual was in any way sexist or misogynist, considering that all of his closest friends are women and his entire life seems to revolve around pleasing/placating his fiancé. xd

I'm Cougar Draven...although I've been known to go by the names Master X, 667, The Shadow King, and Nidrith Kolkea. (The last one is my mule.)
I'm 19, and I'll be 20 next month. I currently live in the metropolitan Detroit area, about halfway between Detroit and Ann Arbor. (That's in Michigan.)
I'm in between high school and college, but I am planning on studying everything I can in college, from mathematics and science to history and English. I will also be studying theology. (Excellent segue, if I do say so myself. And I do.)
I am interested in theology because I want to know what truth is.
I am a Catholic by baptism, although I'm likely to be set upon should I ever attend mass. I suppose I'm just nondenominational Christian.
My hobbies include music, reading, writing (I'm in the process of writing a novel), and attempting to get laid. I'm not even going to lie about that one.
So...hi.
