The Decaying Star
You say hell? We say paradise.

Legend has it that far beyond Gaia's reach there exists yet another star system which has begun to decay, the light given off from it's sun still yet to reach it's final destination. However, this is standard science - is it not? The legend goes on to explain that this is home to the August Star of Heaven - or as those in the east call him - Amatsu Mikaboshi.

In Shinto legend, there exists an obscure being, one who is said to not even exist by Shinto priests. However, even so, myth and acient scrolls mention a Dark Force who ruled over the stars and has existed long before the Universe itself. It was this force that ruled the darkness of space. When the First Generation Grand Kami came into existence, as did Amatsu Mikaboshi. It would be more accurate to say he gained a physical form from the light of the Grand Kami's creation.

With the universe ruled by the Grand Kami, it was Amatsu Mikaboshi who was pushed further back into darkness. The only documents which could prove his existence were the scrolls of ancient Empress Hotoke of Yamato, who developed a system to turn Amatsu Mikaboshi's dark influence in life into a magic to destroy her enemies.

As previously stated, legend states that there is a star system which has begun to decay and turn into a darkness where not even the Seventh Generation Grand Kami can reach. The sun, which had burnt out long ago, is Amatsu Mikaboshi's kingdom.

The Decaying Star is perhaps the hell everyone has searched for. A land of nothingness but molten lava, flames only to provide enough light to see, and creatures of terror.

The Decaying Star

The Decaying Star is a Hell in the physical realm, literally. It is a place for souls who have given up humanity long ago - or to be put more accurately.. Have given up on being human. Long turning their back to the light of the Grand Kami, they walk further and further into the darkness until they reach the Decaying Star.

The Decaying Star itself is a sun which burned out long ago. Slowly, life evolves on this place - adapting to it's conditions. While large patches of nothingness still exist, outside of the cold stone surface and molten lava are thick jungles, towering mountains, and even lakes which have appeared at the hands (Or feet) of the Daidarabocchi.

Despite being rather small, there are a total of 5 territories belonging to the different demonic empires on the Decaying Star - just within miles of eachother. They will each be described respectfully later on.

The Decaying Star can be described as a desert, with very little rainfall but a lot of wind. This nearly lifeless place recieves a grand ammount of rainfall only once a year at the hands of the Akashita, or rain beast. There is a large ammount of wildlife on the Decaying Star, however. Mostly reptilian, adapted to the harsh surface and molten lava. Below, said wildlife will be listed.
______________________________________________________________

Akashita
The rain bringing beast of the black clouds above. It rides upon the thick clouds surface, leaping here or there. It is said that when it sleeps, pressure is added to the clouds and therefore making them rain. It is said the only time it truly sleeps is during the summer, as it is so hot.

Amikiri
The Amikiri are floating creatures in the barren sections of the Decaying Star, who hover above the ground to keep from burning themselves. They appear to be a cross between a lizard, snake, lobster, and a bird. Within their hard exterior is excellent meat.

Ayakashi
The great sea dragon of the Decaying Star's lake region. It is said that there are only a few of them in actual existence, because they are so long they stretch from lake to lake by burrowing under ground.

Bakekujira
The skeleton of a whale often swins within the molten lava, staring back at the surface with a souless gaze. If one were able to capture one, their bones would make excellent blades.

Gyuuki
This bull-looking creature often dwells in the jungle region, taking shape of a beautiful woman near a lake, bathing under the waterfall. They are intelligent but vicious beasts. They make good food, but also may end up eating you as well.

Itsumaden
What appears to be a cross between a human, a snake, a bird, and a tiger often soars the skies, picking up the smaller demons to feed on. Another good source of food, but beware of their fire breath.

Sazaeoni
A gigantic snail, the Sazaeoni is. They take up residence outside of the lake region, waiting for any small creatures to come by for them to eat. They are slow, and sluggish but with a shell hard as iron. If one can catch one, they make for great dining - although a bit salty.

The Demonic Heirarchy

Upon the Decaying Star is an elaborate heirarchy of ranks, even inside individual empires. Naturally, Amatsu Mikaboshi sits atop the heirarchy. Below, the demonic empires will be listed. Most important on top, the scum of the Decaying Star on the bottom.

The Ki'mei Empire
Although Amatsu Mikaboshi himself does not hail from the Ki'mei demonic empire, he has married himself into it by joining Hisa'me in marriage. Nuraihyon is the only one who isn't affiliated with the Ki'mei empire.

The Tengu Empire
The Tengu empire is second only because of the fact they have a crude form, and have not evolved into a fully humanoid state. From birth they have a mask on their face which has merged with their flesh, giving their face the appearance of a bird. Their commander, Sojobo, can even match wits with the wise old man Nuraihyon.

The Bakeneko Empire
With their empress Mitsuki, the bakeneko empire is one of the most vicious and cruel, even amongst themselves. They are nearly fully formed, outside of the ears atop their head which serve as a sort of crown, or proof of the clan they hail from. It is for this reason they are with the Tengu, in the middle.

The Daidarabocchi Empire
The Daidarabocchi are giant creatures, who are still mostly humanoid - although a little mishapen. This is the only thing that saves them from coming up last in the heirarchy, because they are mostly kind souls.

The Oni Empire
Grotesque creatures, they are mishapen and humanoid only because of the fact they have hands and walk on two legs. They are disgusting, and the garbage of the Decaying Star society.

The Ki'mei Empire

The Ki'mei Empire is the only empire that was born as a whole, and without any new demons being born into it with death. This is because they came from the Muromachi period in the East, born of the darkest samurai who turned their back on their humanity, morals, and even their own Daimyo all for blood lust. It is because of this, almost no new members enter the Ki'mei clan.

They are completly humanoid in appearance, but their DNA is slightly different giving their bodies higher healing properties, durable flesh and bones, and a body structure that can generally fight against more than what mortal flesh can. Although they are the top of the demonic heirarchy, they behave in a human like manner. Their number one rule is that one is not to betray blood.

Amatsu Mikaboshi sits at the top of the Ki'mei Empire, his wife and mother of the young Kyari, Hisa'me sits next to him. Yo'kyou sits next to Kyari as her blood father, and second most powerful Daimyo in the land. Nurai'hyon is second to the bottom because of the fact he is not true Ki'mei blood.

Because of their background as humans, none of the other Empires on the Decaying Star have chosen to rise against Mikaboshi. Instead, the other 4 Empires have built a friendly relationship with the Ki'mei. As such, the true threat is within the walls of the castle itself. Just because one cannot betray blood doesn't nessicarily mean it doesn't happen. After all, they are the most humanoid.

The Ki'mei empire sits in the middle of the Decaying Star, on a patch of lush grass. Although the lighting is very faint, the outline of the building can be made out thanks to the torches which sit on the outside. It is a large castle built in the fashion of the ancient mansions of the east which belonged to high ranking Daimyo, or even the Emperor himself.

The Ki'mei Empire Castle acts as a central meeting place and general town for the other Empires to come and mingle with the other empires (Who are on friendly terms, of course.) and even buy supplies which are needed to keep their empire stable. It certainly is large enough, after all. It is even an elaborate maze, so that those who are of high ranks in the Ki'mei itself are safe. The Ki'mei Empire has what is perhaps one of the most complex heirarchies, outside of the Tengu. It goes as follows.

Amatsu Mikaboshi - NPC -- Ki'mei, Hisa'me - NPC
Ki'mei, Kyari --------------- Ki'mei, Yo'kyou - NPC

The Tengu Empire

The Tengu Empire matches wit with the Ki'mei Empire, and they are even perhaps a little more well mannered than the cruel Ki'mei. However, as they have not yet reached a completly humanoid form, they cannot even begin to think of rising against Amatsu Mikaboshi and his demons. Not only that, but even their White Haired King, Sojobo isn't enough to rise against the August Star.

The Tengu are the Empire which rules over the mountains, and the higher jungle. This means they are constantly competing with the fearsome Bakeneko for territory. The Tengu themselves are people who have the facial features of a bird because of a mask they are born with. A long, white beak comes from where the nose should be, and as if they were feathers the mask extends in rounded spikes past the cheek for roughly six inches. Despite the fact that it takes away their humanoid appearance they mask gives them a certain elegance and mystery. The true appeal - and terror - of the Tengu are their piercing eyes which from the pupil color black, amber, and black.

As previously stated, their leader is the great Tengu of long flowing white hair and a seven grass blade fan, Sojobo. He is the only one who has shedded his Tengu mask after existing for thousands upon thousands of years. Aged, obviously, but maintaining an elgance and attractiveness - he has also maintained his mind. He can match wits with Mikaboshi's genius, Nuraihyon.

Their territory is marked by huts high in the trees, out of the grasp of the fierce Bakeneko Empire - outside of those strong enough to climb, not to mention the bones laying on the ground, the bodies left behind by the Tengu after a meal. An interesting note would be that some of the large bones have gone missing to craft weaponry.

Their heirarchy is the most complex on the Decaying Star, as they are creatures who are able to change their form between the many demonic birds, and therefore one must be careful when hunting for Itsumaden.

Author's Note: Keep in mind, the forms below Sojobo are not the permanet form. As previously stated the Tengu are shape shifting creatures, and shift into a humanoid form. Keep in mind, according to their rank their mask changes. Don't pay the description of those particular Bakemono any mind, as they don't apply here. It should also be noted, as I'm not sure if I put it down, that these masks are actually attatched to the flesh.

The Bakeneko Empire

The mortal enemy of the Tengu, constantly competing with eachother in order to raise their rank on the Decaying Star heirarchy, the Bakeneko are brutal and vicious people who exist on a very simple heirarchy, but one which is enforced by death, and blood.

The Bakeneko are people who have a dominantly humanoid form, outside of the cat ears atop their head and the tails sprouting from their lower back. It is within this society the female sex is the dominant sex, higher ranking females even over powering the alpha male. The men in this society serve three purposes: Breeding, entertainment, and hard labor.

Their territory lies in the thick jungle at the foot of the mountains, a thin line sperating them from the Tengu territory. However unlike the previous two empires there is very little which shows their existence outside of a few leaf beds on the floor of the jungle where they sleep. Otherwise they are constantly moving from one area to the next in search of a meal.

Weaponry is not an issue for them, because of their brute strength and high agility, however the skin of their enemies is often removed for clothing, and some bones are removed for jewelry - as they are cats, and are somewhat materialistic.

The Bakeneko is simple, their heirarchy split into five, as they come in all shapes, sizes, and even colors. At their head is Mitsuki, the alpha female and her right hand woman, Sachiko. The alpha male constantly changes with Mitsuki's whims. New born males, in times of need, may be used as food - as their flesh is to regenerate anyway.

The Daidarabocchi Empire

Gigantic, but gentle creatures - if it wasn't because of the fact they were so humanoid in appearance they would be at the bottom of the heirarchy. They roam the lands of molten lava and solid ground without a worry or care, as their flesh is resistant to the heat. They have no shelter as their heads peek above the clouds. It is said the mountains become a pillow, and the vast land their beds. Needless to say it is because of this they have built a friendly relationship with the Tengu Empire. The Tengu groom their heads, and make sure nothing has taken up residence within their body - and from the Daidarabocchi's hair comes rope.

They have no heirarchy, as in their land all are equal.

They have also built a relationship with the Akashita, the dogs who ride upon the clouds and create rain. As such, Mikaboshi has not sent such creatures to their death just yet. Their relationship with the Akashita is important because it brings rain in times of need.

They are massive creatures, as such their strength is fearsome. They have almost no temper, but when it hits they are prone to throwing a fit like a child, and as such causing massive destruction.

Because of their massive size, only a few of them are in existence.

The Oni Empire

Grotesque and deformed creatures with arms which seem to match that of a T-Rex, they are the scum of the Decaying Star's society. They are gluttonous and perverse beins with a small brain, probably no bigger than their nose. Amazing brute strength, they are known to even try to assault the Ki'mei empire for food, or.. Females to gain release from.

At the head of their empire is Kurogane, with teeth and claws said to be able to rip iron to shred - and a stomach which can do the same. He is the most gluttonous of all, and has been known to eat his own empire mates if they didn't bring his food to him quickly enough.

It is these creatures who are needed on the Decaying Star for their brute strength however. They are easily bought off to do work, with even the tiniest ammount of food. How else was the Ki'mei castle built?

The only brains within the Oni Empire are the Yasha, Kurogane's right hand men. They are the most humanoid of the oni with feet and hands. However, as their large stomach shows they are just as gluttonous.

Author's Notes

Now keep in mind, this role play is strictly fantasy. A lot of things have been distorted from their original image to make them fit into this role play. This wasn't meant to be educational, it was meant to be a new role play where people can test their creativity and try out new characters which they normally wouldn't be able to play.

The title has 'mature' in it, however this is not to imply this role play is to be used for 'mature' purposes. I ensure any moderator looking at this, this role play plays by the rules. There is nothing graphic in here at all which would break the rules of Gaia. However, I want to play with a mature audience. I mean, there is the potential to EAT people in this role play so long as it isn't done graphically.

To those of you who aren't familiar with Japanese myth, don't worry. I made sure everything you need to know is here, with even pictures provided on some of the harder to explain creatures. Even so, if you have any questions at all I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Now I would like you to keep in mind this thread is still under construction. Right now, I am in the middle of refining it, and it's content. This means, making it prettier, spell checking it, rewriting some things I feel are poorly written.

Running Plot Lines

All that is happening within the August Star is listed here, down to the seemingly smallest things. Everything is recorded by the all seeing eyes of Nuraihyon in his journal. Perhaps, perhaps it is lucky for some Mikaboshi is forbidden access to it.

The Death Siren and the Kamikiri
Over the past few months, a new Tengu has appeared on our surface. It is suspected that he has had a hand in slaying one of our own soliders, the 'brilliant' Kentaro. Ha, it just goes to show that even the most brilliant has someone better than them. Since Kentaro's death, which was at the hands of a renegade Bakeneko male - Diss - he has defeated one other opponet.

Diss himself.

This youth seems to be the top of the chain off elite swordsman, at least that's what he claims. More interestingly, he has connections with our own prized Death Siren, Kyari Ki'mei. I feel as though I should report this to Amatsu Mikaboshi, but.. I can't help but be interested. I'll see how it developes before I say a word, if I do at all.

I have theorized that this youth may very well be the shrine boy Kyari was supposed to slay - Ito, Satsuya. However, he has named himself after the beast who turned his back on us, Fujin.

The Renegade Bakeneko
From the Bakeneko Empire, since his birth, there has been a male who has run away from the female, dominant sex of that empire. He has called himself Diss, and his plans are unknown. It was with his recent encounter with the boy Fujin, he requested the location of Sojobo before their fight.

Slowly but surely, this male has been making his way toward the Daidarabocchi territory, where a tribe of fire beasts dwell below the feet of the Daidarabocchi. Even I can't help but be interested in this bakeneko.

The Missing White Demon and the Young Bobcat
The White Demon of the Bakeneko territory who hails from one of the most well known tribes - also known as Kusanagi, 'Mimi' Kyaroru - has gone missing around the time of a new male's birth. Because this is not the first time she has gone missing from the Bakeneko Empire, slowly but surely they're becoming fed up.

It is suspected she has left with the young male - Ha'kan - and has not returned for months now. reasoning behind this is the fact she turned her back once on the Empire to spare the boy's life once already, only to take him from the depths of Yomi and to the August Star.

The male himself is an interested creature who has suffered mental trauma, say my sources in Yomi. He was Kagutsuchi's prized sadist, although during that time he went by the name "Akatsuki" formed by combining his first name and family name. akatsuki himself, as far as I can tell, is a seperate personality that dwells deep within Ha'kan.

It would be interesting to see the Bakeneko push him to that point again.
