This is a general intro thread now that we have a few members.

Just tell us stuff about you and how you got into magic - Anything you want to say really...

I'm sure you don't need encouragement to talk about yourselves...
PostPosted: Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:03 am

Oh, I think we need encouragement.
But just to contradict myself, Here I go.

I first started playing casually in 2000.
I got into FNM late 2002.
I like to make a new deck as often as possible. Sometimes, for months at a time I may never play the same deck twice at a tournament.

I HATE net decking - Once in a while is fine, or even if refineing your own idea leads to something close to a net deck.
But I have a severe lack of respect for players who only rely on the ingenuity of others to compete in a tournament & then go around like they're better players than those who didn't use net decks.
*sigh* ok, I got that out of me.

Anyway, KUDOS to Jirya. Love the Guild ^^.

im the DM. i controll everyting and anything... but to tell you the truth.. im just a mule... im used for my shops and ther things so that my true self will not have a PM box filled all the time. my real avi is Darthspanky. and i have been playing for.. um... lets say.. sense sometime around beta to 4th ed.. so basially for quite a few years. i have been playing and collecting casually sense then.. but have started to get into turniments and such sense the start of ravanica.

on another note... i have set up shop for my build your own card shop.(located in the subforums) very cheap. espcially sense i catagorise it as an art shop and most art shops go from 1k+.. and mine starts at 500G!!!

now on another interesting tidbit.. the last time i bought cards. i had spent 380$ in one hull... so i spend a few pennys on getting what i want rofl

It's cool getting to know you all.

I've been playing since 1998 and I'm still listed as the top female player in my region.

I know, I know, there's not many females, but if you could say something like that, wouldn't you?

I started off playing red, and I had a 80 card deck full of burn cards and cool red creatures. My coolest creature was a Lightning Dragon (a prerelease card)

I love that Dragon....

I love playing magic, and though I had an 8 month break while the Ravager deck was around, I was still playing magic at home with friends.

We have thousands of cards - we have at least 24 complete decks that we play with at home - they are not tournament legal but they are heaps of fun. I will post some of those lists at a later date.

I think that this game is a fantastic social thing for kids to do - it teaches them compromise, the joy of winning, the value of humility, the fairness of trading, the joy of competition and that there are people interested in the same things as them.

I have seen really shy kids completely come out of their shell when they play the game - talking to people they would never normally talk to just cos they have an opening for the conversation 'Hey, that's a cool card! Where'd you get it?'

So, yeh, stuff...
This is me.

Hi I'm Neo and I have been playing off and on since 1994

I really love the game but I lost touch or people I played with quit so I haven't played in a while. So be patient with me redface I really look forard to getting to know all of you and maybe even somehow playing against you. I play every thing but blue. I have a red and white that is posted in the main forum and a green and black that is still a work in progress. But I think this guild is a great Idea thanks Jirya heart

hello, i'm lavothas and i'm a magic player,

*waits for group responce of hey lavothas*

i've been an on and off player since the Mirage block around the point that Visions had came out, started out playing with only a 5th edition starter, mirage booster, and a visions booster. since then my collection has grown to a few hundred cards worth ranging from almost every block that exists, even a few Alpha lands biggrin

my current deck would be classified as a black & blue control deck concentrating on limiting the oponents hand size.

as for turnaments and such, i've only played casualy thus far, though i have thought of giving FNM a try reacently.

I'm Bryan
I was taught by a friedn one day in I forgot back when Onslaught came out, we were bored and he got a booster box so he decided to teach me and I was hooked. I started with a tribal zombie deck which I keep together but don't play, and I DESPISE the Kamigawa block, except for some of the rares, I.E. Dragons, Twincast, TimeStop.
I generally LOVE to play control decks but like suicide black decks. I've tried FNM, not bad but tournament decks are all the same 'net decks. So I play casually.
I usually just play after school with some friends and one of the teachers at my school so we pretty much have a Magic "club".

And sorry for the text wall. sweatdrop

Hello everyone.

I'm more of a collector than a player *ducks wall of flame* but I do like to know about what's going on in the Magic world.

I got out of it due to lack of funds a few years ago, and I don't like some of the rule changes (no more Legend type?), but I still love the cards. Unfortunately, I still can't afford them much. crying

And as a completely off-topic hijack (sorry):

Have you been watching Labyrinth recently, Jirya? The third answer for the poll looks awfully familiar...

LOL - I haven't, but I've always loved that line.

In regards to the legend rule - it does still exist, it's just a little different now.

If a legend is already in play and another creature comes into play with the same name - they both die.

The best card I've seen that takes advantage of the new rule that I can play in my deck is Kokusho, The Evening Star.

*waves* Hi! So, yeah, I've been playing for 2 years (by boyfriend got me started...) & I spank the ever living crap outta the people at school usually, lol. & all my decks are made out of the common box & starter decks with some trading *laughs* I don't play in tournament because I'm a lazy player...no, I'm serious...my favorite decks are my elf deck, beast, bird (it sucks now because of the new cards!!!!!! crying ), decking deck (it's still being tweaked), & my soldiers gain life & win with Test Of Endurance deck.

I'm 21, almost 22 (yes, I'm still young enough that I pull that s**t, lol) I'm dating a guy that ranks in the top 20 for our district (w00t! Well...he did, I dunno about now, it's been awhile since he went to tournament....). I also play L5R (I just started that one & I've already been to one tournament...explain that one to me confused since I'd never built a deck & only played a Harrier deck...& the tournament made you build your own deck & they didn't even have the same clan as I played. Blerg...Ah, well...I came in second to last there! *laughs*)

Ummmmmm...I'm a chatterbox if you can't tell. lol, in fact one of my friends from ages ago called me Chatter for that reason, lol.

I started with a 100 card blue green, drake/wurm deck deck (it was cool xd )

I moved town in 2000 ended up meeting someone at school, we became great mates he ntroduced me to some people at a local FNM game, i've stuck with them ever since and with their help i've come up with some great decks (yay birds and zombies twisted )

I guess my biggest beef is that they're no longer considered a 'type'. David had a deck built around Coat of Arms (sorry, no pic) and a bucketload of legends. Very good deck that doesn't work anymore. Doesn't mean I don't still like to collect 'legendary' cards though.

And that Kokusho card is nice. Imagine having 4 of them in your deck. O.O

I don't remember how old I was or what year it was but I know I started with 3rd Edition and they released 4th not long after. I didn't buy any cards for a few years before all of mine were stolen so I was pretty out of the loop on what was new and all but I had over 1300 cards when I moved to CO in '02. That was when my cards were stolen. I'd been unable ot bring them with me and either one of my bro's friends or my sister-in-law did something with them. stare

I'd download the Magic Workstation but as of now my personal computer is dead so I can't have it on the work computer (which I'm on now) or the PC of the place I'm living at. They're afraid of viruses. rolleyes

I've played Red burn decks, Green overpower decks, White weenies, Blue counters, Black death, and many non-typical variants of any one or combination of the five. My best deck required either incredible timing or an opponent who had terrible luck in order to function at full efficacy but it was still powerful as a weenie horde. Not tournament legal as it had more than 4 of some cards but I still loved it.

I had a creature that could be sacrificed as a counterspell, a creature who, when when he left play, returned two instants from my graveyard to my hand (counterspells), a creature that I could tap to return a creature to its owner's hand, an enchantment that allowed only one spell to be played each round by any player, a creature that let me bring a creature from my hand into play, an artifact that returned any creature sent to the graveyard into play at the end of the round, one card that let me pay some mana to negate a creature's ability. . . just a bunch of effect cards and creatures meant to interrupt pretty much anything my opponents could do. The offensive power of my deck was then made up of slivers who also got abilities like the Victual Sliver's "Pay 2: sacrifice this creature to gain 2 life" and the (Crystalline?) Sliver who made it so all slivers couldn't be the target of spells or abilities. Toss on 3 Muscle sliver, a Clot sliver or 2, Winged Slivers, Thorn Slivers, Heart Slivers, and you have a not-so-weenie horde. My bro regretted his pacifistic ways. . . twisted
