Another day, another appointment. There had been so much work on the go lately that it seemed like a never ending flow of people wandering through her doors.
It was good for the business, however. Curiousity settled in her mind as she wondered if this next couple had met with Cray. It seemed the last few hadn't.
Regardless, she quickly and quietly prepared for the couple, and was thankful that the Xxitii was off in the bays, pestering the loading crew. It was one less complication.
She had flicked through the file earlier, which had caused her suspision on Cray. Then again, he could have simply 'forgot' to make notation.
She wouldn't put it passed that man.
Taking her seat finally, she checked her watch. Ten to. They would be there soon.

"So, you're definately sure they're safe?" The woman's voice was fairly easy to hear as she seemed to have taken to talking rather loudly. It was as though she had become partially deaf at some point in her pregnancy (she hadn't) or she just wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of her presence...which wasn't too difficult due to her eccentricity.
"Positive." Nevertheless, the response came and after a few moments a tentative knock could be heard on the door and very slowly it opened so that Aby could poke his head through, his mouse-kin ears twitching delicately as he focused on Julia before giving a nod, at least she was here and not the odd doctor.
"Is it safe to bring her in or do you need to run out and grab some earplugs?" He enquired jokingly before wincing as though he had been jabbed painfully in response to his jest.

"Hmm? Oh. No, that's quite alright, I do believe my eardrums shall survive for the visit." Julia chuckled and motioned for pair to enter the room.
Watching as the odd man wince, not that she should be one for using the term, Julia waited for the woman to come in. Well, the man with her most definitely could not be the husband or father. At least, not according to what her files stated.

"You can't say I didn't warn you." Aby pointed out as he slipped into the room and held the door open for the young woman who hobbled in somewhat unsteadily - she was evidently unaccustomed to the added weight that now clung to her abdomen.
"Hello." Epee chirped pleasantly as she took a seat and the door was closed behind her, "Um...this is Aby and I'm Epee." She introduced herself and her mouse-man companion who coiled his tail around his waist before taking a seat and clasping his hands together in his lap, his ears twitching at stray sounds that lingered in and outside of the room.
"We're here for our appointment, I think?"

Julia gave a simple nod showing she understood this 'warning' of the mans. Her eyes cast over as the blue haired woman made her way into the office. Offering a warm smile, she adjusted her glasses and flipped open a notebook.
"Hello Epee, Aby." she glanced quickly to her calendar, "Yes, I do believe that's the case for today. But, being the first time we've met, I just use this time to talk with you a bit about our policies and procedures here in our clinic." she paused for a moment, lifting a pen from it's holding place, tapping it lightly against the paper.
"Have you met with Professor Zee? I can't really tell from the file."

It was daunting to say the least - the reference to 'procedures' and 'policies' but she supposed that this was a private clinic and as a result it would be ever so slightly different from the traditional wards within a hospital...if anything, Professor Cray simply helped to emphasise that fact the day she had met him in the waiting area and the day he had...had an appointment with her.
"The odd one with the big round glasses?" Epee enquired curiously, unable to contain herself anymore or the desire to express how peculiar she had found the man (he was even more disturbed than her).
"Black, girly hair?"

Chuckling softly at the mention of 'the odd one' and 'girly hair', Julia nodded. Sitting up straight in her chair, she pulled a card from her desk and set it to the side.
"Yes, that would be Cray. And no worries, you're not the first to find odd."
"But, rest assured, Zee is the best of the best. His knowledge and practices are widely accepted to be at a stellar level. You'll not find anyone else as knowledgeable as he in this area." Bingo, truth.
"Although his record keeping certainly leaves something to be desired." she mused, flipping through Epine's file once more.
"I'll have to mention that to him. However, I'm glad that he's already spoke with you." she paused for a moment.
"Now, back to topic. My name is Dr. Julia Walts. I am a trained psychiatrist." she lingered her title a moment, letting the word sink in, "As part of our clinic's services, we have a therapy session for the parents, and their children. We do our best to catch any learning disabilities children may have, so that they can grow up and lead a normal, healthy upbringing." before giving Epee a chance to interupt with any protests, she continued.
"Now, that's not to say that we expect the children to have any learning disabilities. But, from varying studies, we've come to find that those who do, it could be detected early on, and save a child from falling behind others, and becoming desolate or depressed as a cause of it."

She wasn't bothered about the child, in fact it seemed like a very good idea to keep an eye on the baby to ensure that it wouldn't be harmed or affected as it matured - no, she wasn't bothered by that at all, what she was bothered about was the reference to parents...did this woman think she was stark-raving mad?
Probably.
Nevertheless, her facial expression which was somewhat contorted by her internal thoughts had caused her companion's ears to perk and after a few moments he took the opportunity to divert the Doctor's attention from the oddball mother and on to him.
"What do you mean when you refer to the parents?"

Julia quickly drew a conclusion based on the woman's facial expression, and her friend's question. Shaking her head she sat straight in her chair for a moment.
"For parents it is simply an option therapy session. There are no mental diagnoses to be made, simply a place for them to come and speak freely about anything that may be on their mind. I am not here to 'psycho-analyze' anyone. However, even in a mother's case particularly, some begin to deal with post-pregnancy issues. One you may have heard of is Post-partum depression." she cleared her throat and continued.
"Regardless, in the end. It is up to you with what you decide you wish to do." she turned her attention back to Epine.
"No one is here to make any judgements, we are simply here for the families that come to our clinic, and we wish to do the best we can to make the start of a family just a little bit easier for you in the long run."

Well no, he didn't know what this depression thing was and he was relatively certain that Epine didn't either due to her confused expression, nevertheless, he did slip into silence as he fixed his gaze on the Doctor now that he was reasonably satisfied that she had no intentions of placing his mistress in a mental institution (even if there were reasonable grounds to do so).
"Um...actually I'm really not sure what the post-partum depression it..." Epine finally spoke up again, her expression still one of confusion although now she no longer possessed the accusatory glare that she had before, she seemed to be relaxing.
"Actually, I'm not entirely sure what happens during this...you see it was -" She paused and prodded her fingertips together uncertainly before releasing a nervous laugh, "It was an accident, I never even knew I could have offspring so I really have absolutely no idea what's about to happen." She smiled faintly and lifted a hand to rub at her cheek almost guiltily at this point.

"I see." Julia's voice softed, just a tad as Epine held her hand to her face. Of the couple's she had met so far, this was the first woman to admit she really did not mean to become pregnant.
It was understandable, things like this happened all the time. Regardless, Julia felt a twinge of something she wasn't quite certain to be either remorse or sympathy for the woman.
"Post-partum, or Peripartum depression as it is also known, occurs with some women after pregnancy. The hormonal changes can sometimes trigger a feeling of being overwhelmed and some of loss. It can occur anytime in the first year after childbirth, which is why we offer our services to the family as a whole, not singley the child." she paused a moment.
"As for what to expect, that relies wholey on how you approach the situation. It will be difficult, to raise a child, it can take a great deal of your time and effort. However, the joy of having a child can usually far surpass that burden." she smiled. "I'm sure you'll make a wonderful mother."

"But this depression..." Epee was rather uncomfortable at the prospect, it sounded somewhat terrible and very unhealthy to her which was something she didn't want at all, "What exactly does it do, can it be fixed?" She enquired worridly as Aby placed his arm around her shoulder in an attempt to comfort her.
"Will it hurt..." She paused and shook her head as she fixed her azure blue eyes on the woman before her who seemed to know a lot more than she did on this subject, "I mean, will it hurt me or the little baby?" She enquired and chewed on her lower lip briefly. Admittedly she hadn't wanted to be come pregnant but now that she was, she had no desire to let it get hurt, she would look after it and love it like she did with all her companions.

"To be honest, no. The depression will not physically harm the child, nor yourself. The depression is simply that. You become withdrawn from yourself, and from the world around you." she thought for a moment, the concern in the woman's voice was very resound.
"There are ways of treating it. Varying methods, both with the aid of modern medicine, and more natural methods. I wouldn't worry too much though. There's a good chance that you will not be affected either. We simply wish to prepare you for all possibilities... and then to help you through any that may or may not come up."

So there were cures, that was good and there was a part of her that found herself very relieved by this. There was one problem though, traditional medicenes didn't work on her so she sincerely hoped that the natural methods were of use - afterall, if she became withdrawn then everyone would be incredibly worried...it wasn't like her to be quiet, they'd think she was dying or something as silly as that!
"It's good to know that you'll be there to help if there are issues I suppose." She agreed at last and pursed her lips thoughtfully. She knew she had taken up a great deal of the Doctor's time but she wanted to be certain she had put her mind at ease and that she had asked all the questions she wanted to.
"Do you have any idea if or when the professor will want to see me again?" She asked softly and canted her head to the side. Afterall, she was reasonably far gone by now and wasn't it normal for pregnant women to have more than one check-up?

"Hmm... I imagine Cray will want to see you again soon. To introduce you to Dr.Goodman. She will be assisting with the birth itself. And for a mandatory checkup of course. If you wish, you can book an appointment yourself with him. Or I can get in touch with him and have him get in touch with you? Whichever would be easier for you."
Truth be told, prior to the birth, only one meeting with Cray was usually applicable. However, if inquired to, they would not deny the request. It would be a good chance for Cray to monitor the progress of the unborn children, to make sure nothing damaging would occur, nor any odd effects from the process itself.
