Pons appeared in the air of Ikana, falling rather unceremoniously to the ground as the tune around him faded. He sat up and rubbed his head, looking around. Yup, the valley was just as gloomy and full of monsters as he remembered it. The mummy-like gibdos were meandering around without a purpose as usual, not having noticed Pons yet. Surely this place would constitute as dangerous. Perhaps the little skull kid could even find someone called a Hero here? With that intention in mind, Pons set off to find someone amidst the ruins.

Labcoat and beaker, labcoat and beaker, labcoat and beaker with round-a** glasses! A busy bee, Nami bolted and bounced around her little playplace as though she was an electron, or maybe an electrified bee, in the midmorning rush of gathering up her numbers and taking her attention to the brave ones. These young men and women were cut from the same cloth as some say the Hero was, and this of course meant they were brave/stupid/hungry enough to lurch out into darkness, lunge and stab at despair and destitution with their shiny hope--and a spear fitted with minor electrical enhancements. They always had this.

The lab had enjoyed the spilling over of Zoran prosperity for some time now. Decades at least, or had it been hundreds of years? In any case, the little island chain in the Great Bay, hailed for their achievements in the sciences which would seem to be most productive, were simply dying to reach further, to research something really interesting. The ad which led Nami to this little lab either read something to that effect or stirred a feeling in the same key in her little graduate's mind.

"The result is the same," She spoke aloud, giving me--anyone listening in--a nice segue from the lines above as she stared at a few Garo and Gorons. She clicked her stopwatch. They all were running, leaping out of shadows. Out in the field, below her modestly lit balcony, "the Viewing Platform," there were more Gibdo than yesterday, but likely fewer than tomorrow. Something caught her eye.

"Is that... A child?" she saw a boy running, disappearing into her balcony's blindspot as he went of in the direction of the old ruins of the Stone Temple. "Wait, you little punk!" She shouted to apparently no one as she rounded some stairs, tucking her notes under her arm, and eventually busted out the door just in time to let the brave souls from the morning round in.

"... H-Hey!" Out of breath, but stocked up on curiosity, she called out to the stranger as he plucked at rocks--or whatever it was he was doing.

Pons ran all around Ikana, searching for somebody sentient among the Gibdo and sand. For a while, he found nothing. A few times he thought he heard voices, but didn't see anybody. Just some crumbly old ruins and an old-looking research facility, which likely was empty, as few were brave enough to leave civilization and study among the ruins. There were some crazy enough though.
He eventually stumbled upon the outside of the Stone Tower Temple, or what was left of it anyways. It was mostly in ruins, as it wasn't like there was maintenance to keep it maintained over thousands of years. Pons stopped to look at the ruins, wondering if someone might be hiding in them. Surely a Hero wouldn't be hiding, although he wouldn't be surprised if they were lurking around in abandoned ruins. That sounded like something a Hero would do. Perhaps it would be worth a l-
He spun around, startled by someone calling out -- probably to him. He stared at the girl in front of him, long black hair, thick rimmed glasses, and a white lab coat. Pons took a few steps back, putting a decent amount of space between them. "....Hero?" He asked, staring up at her. She didn't look like the type of rugged adventurer he was imagining, what with the crisp white coat, though you could never tell in this world. And besides, she was in Ikana seemingly without any fear of the creatures within, so Pons had to give her credit for that.

Wait wait! A kid! Nami sighed mentally, somewhat lamenting not being able to pitch the job to children, only because it meant making quota was going to be harder. ... Practically impossible.

"H-Hero?" Adjustment needed in glasses area. "Um, are you sure you--That is to say, the sign clearly states you must be at least fifteen years of age to take part in the 'Hero's Test of Courage' ... Dear." The awkwardness was thick enough to blot out--no, a cloud... It brought with it a crisp breeze, the coming of refreshing lightning, to billow and flutter the assistant's labcoat.

Pons stared at the woman, not quite sure if she was just awkward or out of breath or what. He tilted his head, frowning at the mention of some Hero's Test of Courage requiring you to be older than fifteen. He wasn't quite sure what she was referring to, but didn't like that she thought he was some child... even though he totally was. "Much older than fifteen! Older than you! Probably." He said, crossing his arms with a certain smugness. Though, thinking about it, he had no idea what a Hero's Test of Courage was... maybe it would help him find a hero? "...What is, Hero's Test of Courage?" He asked, dropping the irritated feelings from before.

"I'm sorry?" Nami blinked a few times, as if swallowing the idea like a snake with unhinged jaw. "Honey, there's no way you're old enough to take the test..." But, softening up a bit, Nami decided to humor the little one.

"Then how old are you?" Said the young researcher teasingly. "If you tell me, I'll tell you about the test."

Pons bit his cheek, glaring up at the woman. It was evident that she didn't believe him, and though it took a stab at his pride who could blame her? Skull Kids were small, and literally had 'kid' in the name. He also hadn't matured very much due to a number of things, so even claiming to be fifteen was hard to believe, and claiming to be 'much older than Nami' was even harder.
Still, he wanted to know what this Test of Courage was. Not only because he was just interested, but he also got the feeling that if he could find someone who'd completed and done well on it, they might be a good Hero. "Hmm...." He said, crossing his arms and looking around him in thought. He thought back as far as he could, and tried to count the days. "Ten... fifteen... nnnn..." It was obvious he was struggling. Finally, he gave up and lashed out. "I don't know! Hundreds!" He was practically shouting at her. He stared for a minute, then sighed. "Lost track. I can't remember." He said in defeat.

"Lost track?" She whispered to herself. At first it was funny and cute, the little boy making up things just to participate in the experiment, but soon it was implied that he was much older than he should have been. Either he was making this up and really overshooting it, thought the intrepid scientist to herself, or something was very strange about the boy indeed. She adjusted her glasses again, shrugging off her shock.

"Oh yeah?" Said Nami, a caterpillar smirk curling on her face. "Prove it then. If you're really hundreds of years old, what's the oldest thing you can remember, huh?"

Pons kicked at the ground in defeat, staring at a bug crawling by. He glanced up at Nami as she began, his face brightening as he gave him another chance. He tried to think back as far as he could, looking around at the rocks. Staring at the ruins of the stone tower temple, he had a thought. He'd remembered upon entering the location that it had been a long time since he'd been here, definitely well over fifteen years. Probably more than fifty. Or over one hundred years, even! Surely he could convince her with that!
The oldest thing he could remember. Pons pointed at the remnants of the temple. "Long time ago! There was a temple here! Really crumbly now, but... looked like this!" Pons leaned down and started carefully drawing in the dirt with his finger. The drawing was rough, but had the shape of the long abandoned stone tower temple, from the outside of course. "I was playing flute! And..." He paused, staring at the ruins for a moment. "Oh! There were people here! Other than Gibdo. Maybe exploring, maybe living here... I don't know." He said with a casual shrug. "They talked about 'get the treasure before those filthy Gerudo get here!' ...or something... But they ran at me with a sword, so I had to leave. And I have not been here since!" He said with a happy-go-lucky smile, promptly ending his story.
He looked at Nami once more, eyeing her to see what she may be thinking, then turned back to the ruins. "Long time ago. Very long. Never seen so many hylians here." He said with a frown, knowing that the area had been completely devoid of civilization for quite a long time. Like Pons said, he'd not returned to this place since he was attacked, presumably for treasure or some such trivial thing. Pons didn't have his mask at the time, so it wasn't like they were just attacking a kid, though they were definitely out of line.

She was about laugh and wave him off, fighting that reflex for the second time today. What he was saying was utterly insane, and suffice to say she wasn't buying any of it for a second. Just a kid making things up, stoking up clouds of fancy from the dewy air of his ethereally steady realm of imagination. But those hands! What were they? The moment Nami saw those digits she knew she wasn't dealing with some ordinary human child: a million questions; one click of her glasses in place.

"Ya--Ya don't say." A short gust ruffled her hair, made her straighten up. "Um, I mean, yes, of course! Of course you were there when all this was happening..." Now a slight curl of a smirk.

"You know," she continued with her hand gliding slowly past her ear, "that's pretty brave of you, going into such a hornets' nest in the first place. Come to think of it--" now tapping her chin and absently dragging her boot across the ground, spine serpentine and hand in labcoat pocket-- "that's exactly the type of bravery we look for in..." Pause.

"...Champions" Of course she would explain, though it was reasonably easy to grasp. "Would you like to take the Hero's Challenge, little brave guy?" She held her hands to the side of her face as though she were trying to learn the secret tale of some wayfaring calm, smiling now at Pons.

A smug smile crossed Pons' face, glad that he'd proved his age. For a split second he thought she was just appeasing him, but it soon became evident that at the very least she knew now that he was older than fifteen. "Mhmm." He nodded along, kicking the sand at his feet and scratching out the drawing of the old Stone Tower Temple.
"Thank you." Pons said sweetly as she commended his bravery, relishing the praise that just seemed to keep coming. In fact, he was thinking about it so much that given enough time he would have grown concerned that it was just a trap set by this woman so that she could capture him and eat him or make him her personal servant or Nayru knows what! Of course, her sudden mention of Champions took him away from this thought, and he only had the thought flicker across his mind before dismissing it.
He was just about to ask why she would need a champion, whatever that would entail, when she offered for Pons to take the Hero's Challenge. That was what Pons came here for, after all. He eyed her for a moment, then cautiously nodded as the wind kicked up again, sand blowing around them. "Okay. What the challenge?"

"The Hero's Challenge," began the woman in white, "is perilous journey into sudden death for most." She held a finger up and spun on one foot, looking back to add, "only the strongest, bravest warriors make it out, but they're rewarded with a holiday and anything they desire by the Mayor of Clocktown," before walking off toward the stagnant lab on the hill.

It was a spire of petrifying wood and fungifying brick in the partial sun, a deadman's fingernail come up for light from a shallow grave. The door looked like it was hanging on only with the strength of passive aggression; the Keese in the holes left by missing shingles were its voice. From the front the suggestion of a balcony could be seen, and each step on the little stoop was a different note on the lived-in scale. First there was creepiness, then genuine terror, then old-world charm, then the hominess one might feel when in someone's overheated apartment with a refreshingly cool drink in hand. This place was all of those things in one neat little package.

"Here we are~" said Nami giving a twirl as they approached the stairs. "Are you ready to fight some zombies or what!" Finally, the reveal. Pons was so close, would he back out now?

Pons followed behind the woman as she described this challenge that he would be partaking in. The adjectives that may have been fright-inducing to some only made him more curious. What sort of challenge could be so dangerous, yet they could keep it up and running? And what sort of person could complete said challenge? Surely the Hero he was supposed to be looking for could!
She brought him to a large tower, albeit it was no grand structure like the word might imply. In fact, quite the opposite, this building looked like it was going to crumble at any moment, making Pons wonder what sort of challenge this really was. Anything he was picturing would surely cause the building to collapse in on himself. "Zombies?" Pons said questioningly, his flute appearing in his hand. "Yes, I am ready."

And with that they started their journey. Into to the hall of corner nests ideal for Skultula, one might think, down through a series of stairs with halls lined with pictures of scientists, alone and shaking hands with other important-looking folks. What was really impressive during all this was the feeling of calm the place exuded. It was as though there was never anyone actually living here, a museum cultivated by the little pixies under the couch.

"Don't touch those," added the tour guide/researcher phenom here as if on cue. She was pointing to a stack of viles on one of the coffee tables as it was eclipsed slowly by the floor as they descended; it really looked like the only thing here which might suggest life outside the frame. She completely forgot to mention these people, though in one picture it was clear what had happened here some time ago. A boy in green... Shaking hands with a man in a lab coat.

"Here we are~" She chimed like the easy singing of an elevator. "This is where we'll get you read to go." This, much to Pons' enjoyment, was much more what one could expect. One could almost here a certain theme music tapping its essential bass through the walls as the woman in white waved her frayed arms over the room. Complete with giant tubes full of who-knows-what acting as pillars to the ceiling, various whirligigs and gizmos lighting up--if only by sparking--beakers full of wonder (and maybe paralysis), and the obligatory adornment of once collated papers strewn about as if by the graceful currents of a massive brouhaha involving cats and dogs.

"You can just have a seat on that couch, mmkay?" Said the cheery scientist pointing to what could previously be confused for a fungal exhibit. She was over getting some potion ready for herself now in a white ceramic cylindrical container. It came with a neat little handle and a message to the world that she, in fact, was the worlds greatest intern. Some papers were nearby, a ticket to the responsibility train best ridden side-saddle.

"Ho-kay..." She stacked her papers and looked up at Pons, adjusting her glasses. "Name? Age? And Number of years in Termina, please."
