During a patrol down Route 120, an on-duty Pokemon ranger was called in to save an Absol who was severely injured in the forest. Upon rescuing the poor creature, they successfully brought it back its full health. However, since this Pokemon was still in its infancy and is incapable of surviving out on its own, the ranger who had rescued it agreement to keep Absol and help raise it until it is mature enough to be released out into the wild. Although, a strong bond has developed over the long period of time. Will the ranger who had rescued Absol toss it out in the wild? Or will refuse and decide to keep it?

Midnight, a baby Absol, was in the pokemon ranger HQ being cared for. She had been here for about a week now but still didn't trust anyone. She would whimper whenever someone would bring her some food, change her bandages or when they would try to pet her. Currently she was limping away as fast as she could towards the door of the room she was in, even though she wasn't fast enough just yet to get there before it was closed on her. Midnight knew a couple of moves, including Razor Wind, Shadow ball, and Leer. As she backed away from the people trying to help her, she growled trying to launch a Shadow ball at them.

Drake Walker, a Pokemon ranger at route 120 headquarters, was currently at his desk with his coffee. He was currently filing some paperwork after his recent rescue some time this week. He was still worried about the Absol he had rescued that day, although he was rather determined that the creature would open up to him and his crew. He looked over to his side and saw his partner walking in. " How's the little one doing?" He asked, referring to Absol.

"Still doesn't want anyone her. I tried bringing her some food, but she launched a Shadow ball at me. Luckily we got out before anyone was hurt to badly. I'll say this much, she's strong for a little one." they said as Midnight was eating the food little by little. She was not one to trust so easily, as she'd had it rougher than anyone ever could with her mother being killed by humans.

Drake nodded in acknowledgment before taking a sip of his coffee. "You gotta figure, too, when he first rescued the poor thing, there was no sign of her mother. Chance are, the mother may have been killed by those Pokemon hunters." He explained. One person added. "Well, that's gotta explain how shaken up she was when we first brought her in."

"Yes it would. But I'm sure that she'll come around eventually." The guy said as he looked over at the room Midnight was in. "Poor thing has been through some tough times. No wonder she doesn't trust anyone." the girl said. Midnight was laying on the little bed they gave her as it was soft and warm as well as comfortable. Midnight fell asleep but was on high alert being as scared as she was.

Drake nodded in agreement as he sipped his coffee. He began to think to the many cases he ran into where Absol were killed for their fur. "I agree...besides, if we hadn't rescued her in time, she would've been skinned alive and made into a jacket." He said. The thought of that made him shiver in revulsion. He began to wonder if that is what happened to the Pokemon's mother.

A little later, it was time for midnight's bandages to be changed. She was still distrusting of humans and was growling as she backed away and against the wall as she growled at them. She saw Jack but was asleep when he picked her up earlier, but she remembered his scent. She whimpered a bit as she limped over to her bed, shaking from how scared she was and from the pain she was in. She started crying for her mommy after a few seconds of being in that amount of pain.

Drake had the Absol in his arms when Nurse Joy was changing the bandages. He softly patted her on the head to calm her down as Joy gently replaced each bandages. As the Pokemon fell asleep, he then carried it back to its bed, softly laying it down on the cushion. A few hours have passed as he watched the poor creature through the window. He can tell the pain she went through after being separated from her mother.

Midnight felt a little better while Drake was holding her and petting her head. She was so scared of everything around her it was hard for her to trust others, but she felt a connection with Drake that day. One that she never felt with a human before. She slept soundly for once but woke up when she was no longer in Drake's arms. She whimpered seeing he wasn't in the room with her but behind a window. She carefully got up, and limped over to the glass wall and looked up at him with a tilted head wondering if he knew she was watching him.

Drake smiled as the little Pokemon walked over to the window and stared blankly at him. He knew for certain that she would open up to him eventually. One of the rangers walked over to him as saw the Absol watching them through the window as he handed him a cup of coffee. "She must really like you." The ranger said. Drake soon added, "No kidding."

Midnight watched them for a few minutes before she went over to her water and started to take little sips of it. She couldn't taste it, but there was some medication in there for her pain. They figured it would be easier for her to take the medicine if it was mixed in with something like her water or her food. Midnight then laid down on her bed, not knowing what else to do. She wanted to run around but would not be able to until she was fully healed but she would need some physical therapy for her injured leg.

Drake looked back at the little Absol. He was rather grateful that the Pokemon was on the verge of recovering after her injury. He other ranger felt the same way. "It's still surprises me that this Pokemon survived one of them traps." He said. Drake nodded in agreement, soon adding. "Poor thing's lucky of be alive. Let alone have her leg intact." The two rangers walked back to their desk.

A few weeks went by since that day, Midnight was starting to trust the other rangers but was still a bit shy without Drake. She was currently in physical therapy for her leg since it was stiff from being in that cast ever since she came to their HQ. She was currently waiting for Drake to wake up for the day, having been up since early morning, looking outside. She missed her mother but Drake always helped her to calm down when she was alone and scared. Plus she loved him very much. She even started playing with him through the glass after a few days of being in there, making faces when he wasn't looking to make the others laugh. Then she would pretend like she wasn't doing anything but he eventually caught onto her tricks. She even learned razor wind a few days ago. She was even eating again. As Midnight waited for Drake to wake up and feed her, she was watching the entrance to their HQ waiting patiently for him to come back from his early morning mission, whatever that was.

After a long stroll down route 120, Drake's jeep pulled up to the parking lot outside of the ranger station. Drake and his partner soon entered through the main entrance as everybody started greeting them. "Hey, nice to see you all, again." He said as he happily wave. Before he could head back to his desk to start on his paperwork, he decide to visit the rescued Absolutely he had nicknamed Midnight. He opened the door to her room with a bag of food in his hand and happily knelt down to greet.
