Away in the forests, near enough to Winhill but far enough to be an adventure, there lies a beautiful lakeside in the depths of the woods, where a cabin lies off to the side of the hills, overlooking the entirety of the lake. It is here where Kalen goes to meditate, the home where Kalen first met Enkidu and ironically, the place where Riyel and Lloyd came to after the destruction of Winhill. It is a beautiful setting, the lake having a large area of grass for creatures to roam..and perhaps two warriors to clash.

It was quiet. Surprisingly, Kalen had been the first to wake up from within the small cottage on this little training trip. He had gone through the normal routine, drinking some tea and downing water and a small breakfast in order to provide some basic fuel for the day while going out towards the front of the lake while the sun rose before him, his eyes closed as he stayed where he was, kneeling and meditating. His Katanas continued to lay in their sheathes while he muttered a mantra underneath his breath.

The man excepted his companion to accompany him out here soon, and his ears continued to stay on alert while himself showed no visible signs of alertness towards on comers. In fact, those that knew him could have easily figured that he was asleep. Which was essentially what the trip was for anyway, a sort of vacation of sorts for the two that would allow them to relax and work on their own pacing. Han the Fox and Choc the Chocobo both were by the cabin, Han laying fast asleep while the Chocobo itself lay curled upu with the Wolf Hound, its head laying on top of the wolf's smaller frame.

It was only a moment when Kalen heard her. Fi-Fi...

Killing intent. On a subconscious or even instinctual level, anyone, be they animal or human, can sense when one's desire to harm, kill, or inflict pain upon them is particularly high. For the ordinary person, if they were to exude a killing intent, others would only sense it as a chill or a slight pressure at best. But for a trained warrior, a veteran who has seen combat and killed, it could be a powerful intimidation technique used to unnerve the enemy, paralyze them, and even leave them demoralized and scared; making them easy prey to be cut down.

Of the two, Kalen would have likely only experienced the chill, the young man too strong to be affected so greatly by someone of near equal power. It would also be the only warning he received of the blade that would come piercing downwards; its lethal edge trained for his heart and more than likely to strike through it.
There was no whisper of a sword exiting its sheath, nor whistle as it cut through the air. Only a pure, unadulterated intent to kill; which had been suppressed until that final moment.

The killing intent vanished after the initial strike, and whether she hit or missed she would have taken a silent step back away from Kalen, blade still bared. It would be clear that Fianna appeared to wish no time in starting their fight, but whether this would be a simple spar, or she was coming at Kalen with the actual intent to kill this time, was impossible to say. These days, it was nearly impossible to tell what she was thinking, much less feeling.
Regardless of the case, like all times before, Kalen would have to defend himself to the best of his abilities if he didn't wish for their bout to end with him run through by her blade.

Kalen never had the mentality for meditation. At least, at first. Whenever Sou-Ho had him try to do it when he was younger, his mind would always wander and the blonde headed swordsman would end up more frustrated and emotional than he should have been coming out of it. It was funny what a multi-headed Guardian Force could do to a man. "Almost kill you..." It's multi-layered voice replied silkily, as if he had almost spoken what he had thought out loud. It was hell, needless to say, or it had been but meditation was now greatly appreciated by the young man, still on his knees as he absorbed the sounds of the environment about him.

But...things were wrong. Not just what events had happened, Fianna's overall...just attitude but the environment itself. Moments prior it had been vibrant with the sounds of morning life that Kalen had come to know and love about the place but now it was so quiet, it was as if time had frozen everything in its wake and left him to his own devices. But the wind confirmed that such a far fetched thought was as it was, far fetched. The wind...and the quiet sounds of grass being stepped on. Followed by a chill he had come to know more than well enough, not too strong but enough to be recognizable. "Kalen." Two voices rang out in his head as his eyes opened, his body shifting sideways to his right as a blade quickly shot forward to pierce his hallowed heart, missing by what looked like pure luck.

A Macabre Dance of Fools.

But as the blade brushed by him, reaching its maximum distance, Kalen leapt backward from his crouched position, his eyes narrowed as he looked at the smaller girl before him, his eyes looking her over, her face, especially her eyes, as unreadable as his own could be. It seemed almost like yesterday when could have looked at the young woman's face before him and see what other's could not, the inner turmoil that her now seemingly glassy eyes once held was as easily readable to him as a page on a book. He could easily remember teasing her, getting the black haired swords woman to easily crack that mask of hers to him, something he had once prided himself in. Now it seemed too deep for even him to reach.

"Fianna."

His right hand touched where Hrunting lay in its sheathe, the click of the blade being slightly drawn almost barely recognizable. He stood tall, his blonde hair fluttering gently in the wind but his body was tense, his eyes not showing the playfulness that was once always attributed towards them now a cold steely blue as they looked into the girl's own. Those seemingly dead eyes that plagued him for not being able to be there for her. To have been a good friend rather than a terrible one. But this was no time to dwell.

Kalen was ready for war.

Time flowed like molasses. Thick, slow, droopy. Sounds and voices were muffled, motions dragged on as if they were recorded and played in slow motion. She was slow to react to sensations, such as temperature and pain. She felt that if she were to lean back and let herself fall, that she would float away as if she were in water. For a moment she almost did, her body leaning back, bangs falling from her eyes; revealing two blank, indigo eyes that stared on without seeing. She caught herself just before she fell, her left foot sliding back to instantly stabilize her body and keep her from falling backwards down the hill.

            "Fee-ann-uh..."

She heard a voice, muffled and mute, and the sound of what might have been her name, distorted, as if spoken through water. Her eyes drifted downwards, floating down from the the trees and returning to Kalen. Kalen...
Her eyes focused for a moment, becoming clear, and she looked to Kalen, seeing him for what appeared to be the first time. Feeling something in her hand, she looked down, catching the morning light on her sword. Her face contorted, becoming anguished and distressed. Sword still drawn, it was only then that she seemed to realize what she had just done, or what she had just tried to do. She opened her mouth to speak, but halted. Her eyes becoming clouded, as if looking inward, and her expression softened. After the span of what may have only been a couple of seconds, her face went fully blank, and her eyes glazed over once more, as if a child being lulled to sleep, relaxed and at ease. At peace.

She remained rooted to the spot. Then she took a slow step forward. She took another step, faster now, her body swaying in the direction of each step; the wind stirring her hair, shaking her scarf, and ruffling her jacket and skirt. With each step she took she moved just a bit quicker, as if working the sluggishness of her movements off. When she took her final step, her body leaned forward, as if she were about to fall; but in an instant she disappeared, her body blurring as she sped towards him. Sights and colors blurring around her like smeared paint on a canvas; only Kalen staying in focus. Her focus, her target, her kill...?

She veered to his left, positioning herself so that he could not hit her Hrunting when he drew his weapon. But at the speed she was moving, even her dulled reactions and perception would be enough to evade such an attack. Blade held out to her side, the tip aimed towards the ground, the moment she was upon him she broke right, her body shifting for a moment, and her sword flashed once, twice, three times; each time her body spinning and blade lashing out; seeking the flesh of where he was most vital. Her first slash was a long, wide slash across his body targeting his abdomen. Her second, after spinning was a downward slash against his right forearm, and then when she spins a third time it is a low cut targeting his right knee. Each of them was a swift, lethal cut; but the third, aimed towards his knee, was where she put the most emphasis in her assault.

ↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂↂ

A Macabre Dance of Fools.

He remembered why he had brought her here. Convinced her. Dragged her.

It was because he knew she would snap at any time.

Kalen's piercing blue eyes watched as the young woman before him recovered from her leap back, drawing his blade fully at that moment and entering his normal stance. The blade gleamed in the moonlight as the two young ones looked at each other. Kalen's own eyes never left hers. His eyes never left those deadened orbs.

And that was when he saw it. The thick mask that broke at the calling of her name, his voice breaking through it for what seemed a moment as he saw the woman that he had come to know over the years. He saw the pain and panic, the black haired blade maiden looking as if she had no idea what she was doing. It was then that Kalen knew that she was deeper into her own world than he had originally thought. But the mask that the girl had held since they were children, the mask that had grown to envelop the woman's being in a malevolent shell, was flawed. It was merely remaking the chip that Kalen had just created.

And that was where his hope found itself once more...but pain for the woman that he held close to heart grew larger.

Kalen however, would not give up on her. Especially now.

The wind picked up once more, the only sound between the two to be made. Their eyes never wavered from their steely gaze and it was then that they moved.

They began to dance.

Fianna charged forth, her own body aimed and ready to find a way to maim the flesh of the man before her but still Kalen did not move. They both knew each other's styles. The two of them had honed them together over the years, themselves seemingly so similar yet so astonishingly different in so many ways. Kalen let loose a deep breath and inhaled another, watching as she jutted towards his left while he awaited for that final moment. Hrunting felt so light in his hands as he awaited his partner to initiate the beautiful yet deadly dance the two had practiced so well.

And as he unleashed that breath, he let loose a whistle of a strange melody, one that he normally hummed on his own and even after a bout with Fianna as children. Sometimes with Nyale as they lay in the fields looking high into the blue skies. It was something that kept him rooted in the moment, the song from his heart and song from his blade, as he moved as Fianna made her final movement, the two partners coming together with a grace normally seen as unaccustomed between a fight of such savagery.

Her first strike swung with startling speed, Kalen stepping away just enough to avoid being cutted as Ashura cut across his stomach, leaving a painful line as he continued to focus on the song in his mind, the blade cutting away his shawl and the cloth that was wrapped with it. It hurt, or it would after the adrenaline rushed away but immediately Kalen also felt lighter, now moving his blade quicker, catching her next oncoming strike.

Hrunting and Ashura came together within a loving embrace that they had experienced many times prior, the clashing of their steel making a resonating note as the blades whistled like Kalen had prior, the music still thrumming within the recesses of his mind as it kept him in tune to the world about him. It kept him in time with the time signature this dance provided. His blade met Fianna's promptly, moving his body just enough to catch her own blade, Hrunting facing downward to block her second strike as he moved with her spin, his own blade swinging with a low arc as it caught her third strike as she finished.

His own eyes never left hers as he pushed forward, lashing out as the steel of their blades ground together. He was stronger, he knew that. And he would abuse that as his left foot came forward, swinging his blade and hers upward as he charged towards her as he seemed to flicker in and out of existence, underneath her blade as his own struck for her own abdomen in the midst of his sudden burst of speed. Flash.

Kalen appeared a couple of feet away, turning around as dirt kicked up, shrugging away the vest as he felt even lighter, eyeing Fianna as he muttered a spell. "Haste." Instantly, he felt much more alive, much quicker as he watched the young woman before him. He had been hurt yes, but he had been certain that he would have hit her. "I saw you, Fianna. I saw YOU." His eyes were narrowed as his chest already scarred, bled from the lower part of his body. And it was there he let loose a howl, the entire wood forest coming alive with responding ones.

            "---"

A voiceless call, a wordless whisper. It would have been right as Kalen spun to block the third strike from Fianna that he would have felt it. The sensation of a blade slicing across the backs of his legs, cutting just above the backs of his knee. Missing the tendons, Kalen narrowly avoiding having his ability to walk disabled, but cutting at his flesh regardless.
Fianna smiled as her shadow struck. A faint quirk of the lips, her upper eyelids lowering ever so slightly. A tired smile, yet pleased.

While Kalen had been focused on Fianna's dance of pirouetting blades, his eyes never leaving her and his defenses focused on blocking her attacks, his back had been left helpless to the shadow that struck from behind; his shawl, which had been cut loose by Fianna's first attack, leaving him exposed to the strike from behind.
A calculated move, and the reason why she had performed such an extravagant show. All in order to distract him from her true intentions, and from the darkness creeping up from behind.

When Kalen made his own attack, countering her own assault to charge her, Fianna offered little to no resistance. Her face and eyes were passive as he swung their swords away; leaving Fianna's front open and defenseless to the attack that came next, which she made no effort to prevent. No, even if she had tried to defend herself against Kalen's counterattack, the speed at which he moved and the manner it had been performed would have made doing so exceedingly difficult, if not impossible.
Yet there was something off in the way that she seemed to open herself to the attack; the Fianna holding out her arms to either side as if to intentionally receive the attack. As if this too had been calculated into her planning.

But even though she had opened herself to receive the single strike, her body moved backwards, Fianna taking a step back and turning just ever so slightly so that she moved in the same direction of the swinging blade, minimizing the surface area it cut across and reducing some of the friction of the blade against her body.
It struck, and with the heavy blow caught her in the stomach; the young woman gasping slightly as air was expulsed from her body and she was winded, her eyes widening for and becoming watery.
Her body turned with the blade, and the girl stumbled to the ground and fell to her hands and knees just as Kalen "flickered" past her, appearing some short distance away from her.

Tentatively, Fianna brought a hand to her torso and felt for the wound. Her coat had protected her belly from being sliced open, being made of stronger materials than store bought goods, but it had done nothing to protect her from the impact of his attack. No doubt she'd bruise, but the attack was not incapacitating. She could still fight, and from the way she grinned, baring teeth in an almost sinister way, it was probably clear that she was not done by far.

Staggering to her feet slowly while Kalen buffed himself and assessed his own damage, Fianna lifted her head slightly, and her eyes went to his torso. Her expression was composed, grin gone, and showing no emotion as she examined the cut across his torso. If she felt anything from having just drawn blood from her childhood friend, she showed no visible reaction to it. However, she did seem to react to his words, wincing ever so slightly as if being exposed to a noise that hurt her.

"Kalen..." Fianna whispered, her voice small and brittle, but no doubt loud enough to reach his ears. It was the first time that she had spoken since she appeared before him, and as she regarded him she lifted her eyes to meet his; meeting his eyes for the first time in... a long time. Face still expressionless, she whispered a word to him. A command? An order? A demand? Out from her body, flowing through the air and enveloping Kalen's head in a spherical ribbon of purple light, was the magic of...

            "...silence."

With that, Fianna had robbed his ability to speak. His ability to cast spells, no longer able to buff himself or dispel any status Fianna cast upon him. She had also cut off his only means of verbally reaching out to Fianna, Fianna unwilling to hear the words he wished to speak, the things he wanted to say. She would not hear his excuses, hear his "healing words" meant to soothe and calm her. She had not come here for that. She had come here because...

Emotions flooded her. Feelings of betrayal and abandonment, and anger. Feelings of guilt, shame, and regret. All of the emotions seemed to flash across her face, before once again her eyes clouded and she seemed to be calmed by something. Even so, her grip on her sword remained strong, and when her eyes cleared once more, becoming empty, they focused on Kalen again; although she would not meet his eyes. She had come here for one reason, and one reason only.

The back of her jacket rippling, as if something with writhing around beneath the fabric... something ripped through, and a pair of jet black "wings" emerged just around her shoulders. They were not like ordinary wings, in that they appeared to be some sort of dark, gaseous energy that her body was emitting. But nonetheless that was the shape they took and the appearance they gave.
With her limit break activated, and her wings out, she was finally ready. She had come here to let go of all of the things she had been holding within her, and she was now ready to do so in full earnest.

"Kalen..." She called again, voice silvery now. "Come."

The Waltz of the Young

The adrenaline soon subsided as he felt the pain on his abdominal region, the back of his legs in pain as he realized her shadow had struck him, or at least what he called her shadow. How could I forget those... He cursed, his eyes watching Fianna with an almost apprehensive look on his face as he watched her fall from his attack. He knew it wasn't over. She was tougher than many he knew and such a blow was only the start of this deadly waltz between the two of them. But he held no anger, at least not towards her. He felt sorry. He felt miserable for the state that she had become and all he could do was help her as she fought for her own path. Just as she had when they were younger...

A shadow seemed to cast itself over his eyes, those incandescent blues seeming to take on a different shade of their own as he watched her finally come to a stand. He knew he had failed to be there always, a promise he had tried to keep to her and Nyale over and over. "When it all goes bad, I'll be there! Count on it!" What a stupid promise for a fool of a child to make. Such a promise led to this as a result, and now all Kalen could do was look at her and try, struggle, to survive and be that guiding light that she needed to find her path. Maybe we both earned this...

Focus boy... Enkidu's voice rang out, an echo of a choir pormpted with his words.

Focusssss..... fooooooocussssss...

Focuss.... focusssss.....

Foccusss...... Fail......

Focusss..... Die.....

"SHUT....U-" And then he could speak no more. His irate scream towards the voices within his head was cut off, his eyes narrowing at Fianna as he heard her words, his mind finally registering them in the recesses of his mind. He could no longer formulate traditional words...but that wouldn't stop him from emoting. Or speaking to those others could not. A small smile grew on his face as he thought of what she had done...her old way of making him shut his mouth, and one he thought he would never see after such a long time. His smile never left his face, though it was not one of warmth. It merely showed the acceptance of the situation as he watched her wings come forth.

So it had come to this.

The bleeding across his massively scarred torso continued but his eyes paid no heed. The backs of his legs bled but he cared not. It was only as she beckoned to him did he wink at her, a roguish and seemingly violent wink at that. But it was then that a snarl came from behind Fianna, a massive wolf having crept like the nature's ninja it was with its teeth bared, aiming to snap and tear her right leg off with its white teeth.

The Clan would protect their Prince.

Kalen had already begun though, himself charging with Hrunting in hand almost in a similar fashion as Fianna, knowing that her eyes would be on him initially as he juked to her right, turning towards his own right as the wolf made its hungry lunge at the back of her open leg. However, as the wolf snarled, alerting her of his existence, Kalen flickered once more as he appeared to Fianna's left quickly, a quick and efficient strike across where he had hit her prior, Hrunting eager to bite into her once more as he spun, the blade coming in an outward arc just as Fianna has done prior to strike once more, Kalen swinging through with a step forward as he flickered once again, shooting forward and skidding to a halt and turning once more to see the results, his body aware and alert.

Fianna turned. Wings spreading outward, her right wing hardened into a curved blade, taking on a form that made it reminiscent to that of a scythe. It came down immediately upon the wolf, the the bladed wing swiftly driving its point through its muzzle like with the decisive force of a guillotine, grounding the beast into the earth and halting its fangs from reaching her. Simultaneously, she reversed her grip on her sword, and casually stabbed backwards, thrusting the point through its side and then ripping it out in a slashing motion; gutting its side open.
As soon as her blade cleared its body, her wing, still thrust through the creatures head, slashed outward; slicing down the wolf's body length-wise that left the poor creature vivisected. The result, a brilliant spray of blood that sprinkled the right side of the young woman, painting one side of her face red as though she were wearing a sanguine half-mask.
"Down." Fianna whispered to the wolf, now thoroughly dead. The wing which had slain the beast spread out to wrap around and envelop the two halves of the corpse, Hræsvelgr activating. But by now her attention was already back on Kalen, whom she had deigned to deal with by use of her left wing.

As fast as a person was during Flash, Kalen most of all, there was one fatal flaw with with the skill when it came to attacking. The attacks came after, and for a moment their speed resumed to its normal state just before they struck their blow (assuming they decided to attack at all after their flash). It was during that instant that she brought her wing around to shield herself from the blade, right as she slew the wolf that had lunged at her, the wing solidifying to defend against and block the attack. She would have caught the blade (encasing it within her wing to rob him of his weapon), but as soon as he had struck he had turned and flickered, skipping away before she could do anything more. She would have followed, attacking him from behind, but she was... preoccupied, unable to move while her right wing consumed the wolf.

The attack from behind had been a nice touch, to distract her, but she too held the advantage of knowing Kalen's style of combat. Just as she had made use of her Shadow Split skill in order to get points on him, he had used his Flash skill in order to get points on her. While he may have once been the stronger of the two, and the faster, it was no longer quite so... clear, and she had more than a few tricks up her sleeve, and no restraints against using them.

"You run." The woman commented, wing unfolding so that she could fully look at Kalen. She did not pursue him, but instead remained where she stood before; her right wing now fully enveloping the wolf, and the gruesome sound of bones snapping and crunching coming from within, and what appeared to be "gulps" carrying whatever it consumed from the wolf, up through the wing, and to her body.
Her face was impassive, and yet... there was an intensity to her eyes. With the dark rings beneath her eyes (hinting at the haunted, sleepless nights she suffer), half her face covered in the blood of a fresh kill, and a sword in hand (black edge gleaming red in the light); there was something decidedly... disturbing about this person who stood before her. If Kalen hadn't acknowledged it before, he would have no choice but to now; she was not the same girl that she had once been. She had been too calm in her execution of the wolf, too brutal. What's more, she was no longer sluggish or slow to react. She seemed to become much more alive as the fight progressed, as she was wounded and as she wounded in return. She was... unrestrained.

"If you will not come to me..." The young woman said slowly, lips widening into a grin as she spoke in a low, almost seductive tone. "Should I come... to you?"
As she had once before, during that first strike, she omitted her killing intent. This time, stronger than before, more... intense. He had wanted to to bring her here because he had known that she would snap, but had he known just what it was that he had gotten himself into? Miles away from anywhere, there was no one but the two of them, and she was no longer in the mindset for playing gentle. Would Kalen last long enough for Fianna's mood to shift, or would he be the first to fall victim to her madness?

The Waltz of the Young

His eyes darkened, a shadow seeming to form over his face as he watched the wolf's death. It was one of the few that had come to see him and Fianna on the occasions that they had come here to train, the pup having like the girl once upon a time. Now he was brutally killed, almost having no chance. The blood on Fianna merely made the look of pity on his face grow. No words could come out as he let loose another howl, a somewhat larger wolf appearing next to him. The first one's mate.

"Summon me, boy."

Kalen's eyes merely looked at Fianna, his eyes still holding that sad face. Someone could easily confuse it with disgust. But he wouldn't resist, even Hydra who was constantly harassing him, was tuned out by the level of mixed emotion that he was displaying. But the wolf stood by him just as Kalen himself began to summon, his eyes looking forward as the Guardian Force began to speak to him "I don't understand why you're even here..." . Kalen did not say a thing. Kalen loved her, but Enkidu knew a train wreck of a girl if he ever saw one.

"Because you don't ditch your girl when she needs you."

It was then that Kalen looked up, a cold fire in his eyes as the killing intent washed over him. You're not her right now... Her killing intent did nothing. His own shot forward, wild and rabid to counter her own.

He started walking slowly, his eyes watching as the wolf growled beside him, his own blade in hand as his left hand drew Naegling from his other sheathe, both blades drawn. It was not often that Kal did such a thing. You're not my Fianna...not now... He was coming. His own intent seemed to rival her own but he still knew fear. Fear for her. Fear for himself. Fear for them. And it kept his senses alive as he sauntered forward.

With one final "gulp" her wing finished consuming the last of the wolf, and once again resumed its normal, winglike appearance.
"Unpleasant." She muttered, making a face at the flavor that filled her mouth. She had heard that eating wolf was a disgusting experience, but had never experienced it until now. To her the wolf was... gamey, oily, and far from appetizing; yet not the worst thing she had eaten nor the worst thing she had been forced to experience.

Reaching into a pocket in her jacket, she lifted out a small piece of hard candy, covered in a plastic wrapping. Unraveling the plastic, she popped the candy into her mouth and casually dropped the wrapper onto the ground. Working the hard candy around the inside of her mouth to remove the taste of wolf, the flavor of pomegranate filled her mouth, and even leaving a faint scent of fruit in the air about her.

Mirroring Kalen, Fianna too started to walk forward, matching his pace so that the two slowly approached each other. She still wore a grin on her face, growing wider as the two grew closer, chest abuzz with such excitement she was practically giddy.
As she walked, her wings slowly dissipated. At first would have seemed as if her limit break had ended, but as her wings faded the air around Fianna filled with a dark, black mist until it wrapped around her body like an aura. With the exception of the space between them, and her torso, the mist filled their surroundings; painting everything in black so that their surroundings were all but impossible to see.

Whether it was Kalen who broke first or he held his position, as the two came within proximity Fianna would have continued to walk past him, stopping just a few feet past him so that her back was to his.

"Kalen, do you remember playing tag at the Garden when we were children?" Fianna asked suddenly, back still to the man. "With Nyale? You were always the fastest, and I could never quite catch you..."
She spoke in soft, nostalgic tones as she brought up the memory of their past. Whenever the three played at Winhill that had been one of the more popular games between the three. Kalen and Fianna usually dominated at the game, although Nyale always "cheated" by using her wings to keep out of reach.
Even though Kalen had always been just a little bit faster, keeping ahead of Fianna by just a hairs breadth, she had also been rather skilled at keeping out of his reach.
"Those were really... fun times... but now, I wonder... if I'll be able to catch you now. So Kalen... I'll be it."

With that, the mist finally fell in around them; enveloping Kalen in darkness, leaving him blind to anything beyond a few feet in front of him, with only the lingering scent of pomegranate to guide him to where Fianna was, and the sounds of whispering in the darkness all around.

The Waltz of the Young

"Stay near me." It was a growl to his wolf companion, the She-Wolf, but it was enough for her to do so, her fur standing up on end as she stayed on the side opposite Fianna, a small growl coming from her as they walked past her, stopping as soon as they heard Fianna stop as well. "Easy..." It was a word of assurance to the wolf even as Enkidu formed in the shadows before him, a deep growl coming from the Guardian Force. "Esuna."

The spell came upon Kalen almost immediately as he looked towards Enkidu, nodding as the GF backed off. "Stay out...I'll need you in moments, it might seem." It was still incomprehensible to Fianna, but quickly Kalen would address her as soon as she started to speak to him once more.

"I can't forget something that almost seems like yesterday." And it was certainly what it felt like. The three of them running in the Winhill fields without a care in the world, just laughing and childlish name calling towards one another as they tagged eachother in the back, and the collective ranting at Nyale as she fluttered overhead to evade them. "I wish it was still those times." After everything that had happened to the two of them, those times were much brighter and joyful now that he looked back at them. "Such good timessssssss...suchhhh a shame she's here to kill you now my boyyy..."

Hydra's voice once more flooded his mind, and Kalen squinted his eyes while striving to ignore the b***h in the back of his head. "I don't blame her..." That thought came out loud as he pushed it away, knowing the truth as he said it. It was as Fianna finished her statement that he sheathed his weapons, letting loose a shuddering sigh as the mist fell, just cutting off in front of Enkidu, who sniffed into the mist with apprehension. "Kalen...

And here was where Kalen felt something. Something he hardly ever felt, even when his life was on the line.

It was fear.

But something that he would not let control him. It was still fearful for her as much as him. How far would this fight go? After all the things that had taken away bits of who they were as humans, would this fight truly end with one alive and broken further? Or would it collapse all around them as they collapsed in exhaustion, perhaps to resume this folly another day? "You're it..." His eyes remained closed as the wolf stayed only two or three feet away from him, her own nose alert as Enkidu's was as well, radars to hopefully warn their companion of an oncoming attack. "...she's toying with me now..." But Kalen would take what she dished out. It was a punishment he could almost see as fitting. "Protect." He muttered as he spoke once more.

"Will your wings consume me as well?" Rather morbid thought that came aloud in the form of words once more, but it was better perhaps said rather than kept in. He knew not what the girl would do.

But still, he waited. Weapons closed. Senses alert.

Fear still in place.

            "Kalen..."

The dark mist stirred around the young man, swirling into senseless patterns like trails of smoke caught in the wind. Yet there was a heaviness to the mist that did not befit its fickle or playful nature. There was such an oppressive feeling of weight that seemed to depress upon those who inhabited it, as if they were too forced to bear even a fraction of the weight the young girl carried. The weight of one who had lived under the expectations of others for so long as the daughter of Sou-Ho Nebulous. Expected to exceed as he had, to succeed him and carry on the family name in honor. Of someone who had lived under the weight of her own expectations and hopes, constantly striving and struggling to do better, to meet the expectations of not just the others, of her friends and her family, but of herself. The weight of someone... who had gone to Hell and not quite come back, carrying a piece of it within her and doing all she could to keep it from bursting out.

            "Kalen..."

Whether imagined or real, the mist seemed to play with their senses. There was the unerring sensation of being under observation, of being... felt. Every so few seconds, the mist that clung to Kalen's attire would suddenly take on presence; as if a hand were pressing against him lightly or brushing against his clothing. At one point he might have even felt the sensation of someone embracing him from behind. However, the feelings only lasted for a second before fading, and if he turned to look to see if she was there he would find nothing but darkness.

            "Kalen..."

Occasionally the scent of pomegranate would drift along the path of Kalen and his wolf, carried along a swirl, but the scent seemed to come from everywhere now, and Fianna's voice never from the same area twice. The two would have had fun trying to track her in this mist, but then they wouldn't have to worry about that. Not that they tried, not that they would have to. For Fianna was the one coming to him.

"...would you let me eat you if I asked?"

There was a whisper of a sigh, and from behind Kalen she appeared. The darkness clinging to her like cobwebs, her sword coming down across his back. Yet she was not alone.
Several others appeared as well, five in total and all alike and all the same. They came in the darkness and it was only when they were within a few feet of Kalen that he would have been able to make them out; their swords coming at him from multiple directions. They ignored the wolf, hardly caring for its presence, their "attention" focused solely on the wanderer.

"Save your tears 'cause I'll come back"
I could hear that you whispered as you walked through that door
But still I swore to hide the pain when I turn back the pages
Shouting might have been the answer
What if I'd cried my eyes out and begged you not to depart?
But now I'm not afraid to say what's in my heart

The Waltz of the Young

All he could focus on was the adrenaline rushing through his body, the sounds around him swirling and seeming to just bounce off of him. Was he ignoring it? No. The fear and anxiety of the overall situation had him by the heart. Was he going to be killed by her? Would he be skilled enough to stand his ground against these odds? Could he save her from herself? The sweat on his brow even showcased all the pressure that was crashing onto his shoulders. "I'm sorry..." he whispered, knowing that his words would reach nothing and would just fall on deaf ears, "I'm so sorry." He wished that he could just alleviate her pain...her suffering. Kalen just wished that he could have gotten to her sooner.

The whispers around him seemed to just haunt his presence, adding to the voices that tormented him even before this. No movement could be detected on his part as he simply stood there with his eyes closed. The wolf stood next to him, shivering as well from the overall killing intent that filled the area. The beast merely looked at the man, who nodded and allowed it to retreat, sprinting out of the mist and rushing towards Enkidu, who continued to watch tensely into the black mist. However, the young man was still tense, but even as the mist pulled and teased him of oncoming pain, he gave no signs as to acknowledge it. I wish... "I wish I could bear your burden." The words came out as he thought it...and that was when the question was posed to him.

"Would you still hate me if I did?" An odd question and he knew what was coming...but the matter was from where. Even as the blade cut at his back, his grunt from the pain giving way to blood from the cut and the tear that came from his eye, he spun and reached out to grab her arm, throwing a blow to her face as he moved the opposite direction her blade did to make the hopeful strike. But even as he did this, he saw the shadows appear and knew he had to act fast.

"Earthaga!"

The earth exploded in a ring around him, most likely catching the shadows as well as Fianna in the rising of ring of massive earth spikes seeking to impale everything that was around the young man. To say he had changed the terrain would be an understatement as the land warped for a couple yards. His concern was still towards the lady.

"Wait for me, Ill write you letters"
I could see how you stammered with your eyes to the floor
But still I swore to hide the doubt when I turn back the pages
Anger might have been the answer
What if I'd hung my head and said that I couldn't wait?
But now I'm strong enough to know it's not too late

Fianna's breaths were slow and deliberate, each one controlled and intentional. Standing a short distance away from Kalen when the assault took place, expression grim and lips pressed so tightly against each other that they were bone white. The taste of blood filled her mouth, but it was not the aftertaste of the wolf she had consumed with Hræsvelgr that caused it. The source of blood came from the inside of her mouth, where she had, unknowingly, bit down on the inside of her cheek with such strength as to cause herself to bleed. The taste of iron and pomegranate filling her mouth.

The scene played out dozens of times in her head. A hundred times, even. Each time Fianna imagining just what taste he would have, what flavor. Even imagining the gross, gushing sensation of his blood filling her mouth. Would she hate him if her let her eat him? Yes. She would hate him. If he let her eat him, just like that, it would be as if he were running away. Giving up and running away. The Fianna from before did not adhere to such a show of weakness, nor would she tolerate it in so close a friend. Yet the Fianna now... no, it was not because he was her friend that she would hate it, or that she hated weakness. It was because...
"You can't get away from this that easily."

She found herself saying, a strained grin spreading across her face; though she did not seem aware of it. "You think that just because you surrender that will make things right? That everything will go back to normal?"

            "Don't ******** with me."

"What would you know of burdens, Kalen? What would you know of responsibilities? What would you know what I have had to suffer for the last sixteen years? What I had to endure at the hands of..." She broke off her almost torrid rage by grinding her teeth and growling beneath her breath, unwilling to even speak of their name lest he creep back into her mind. It was enough he haunted her within the darkness of her eyelids and dreams that she did not need to deal with him now.
She was on the move now, moving in a circle around Kalen all the while keeping him and his pet at a distance yet safely in the confines of the mist. Yet as she watched him, purple eyes intense with emotion, she felt the rage boiling over. The emotions seeping through her every pores.
Her hand, gripping her sword which was drawn from its sheath, was bleached white from how hard she was gripping it, and her arm visibly shook with the rage that she was containing within herself, yet not enough before she spoke once more.

"You've spent your entire life running away. You ran away from your family because you couldn't handle them. You ran away from school because you couldn't handle it. You've continued to run away from everything, and that's why you travel so much! That's why you can never settle in one place for so long. You're just... just... a coward who can't face his problems!
Not even on your own, that's why you resort to calling your dogs to your side. You can't even face me alone. Because you know. You know that it's your fault I'm like this. If you had tried just a little bit harder... If you had just tried... If... I had only been stronger then..."

Tears were streaming down Fianna's face, and unbeknownst to her she was screaming at Kalen; uncaring if her position was compromised. Her emotional state was... unstable to say the least, jumping from angry to depressed, blaming Kalen and attacking him for what she viewed as his weak points, before finally turning that energy back inward on herself.

All the while, as this was going on, shadow after shadow leapt from her body. Each one striking at Kalen, each trying to inflict any form of pain or harm upon her. It was as if each one was representing a piece of her. A fraction. A shattered slither of a mirror of her. She did want to hurt him. She wanted him to feel what she felt. To experience what she had to. Eat him? No, she would not eat him. She wouldn't give him any such satisfaction such as what death was. She would draw it out, as like what had been done unto her. She would draw out his pain and misery far beyond his breaking point. Only then would she begin to feel satisfied. But even that would not be enough. For he would only have to experience it once. The pain of death and torture, of being the plaything of some madman. Where she... had been forced to endure it a thousand over a thousand times.

"I will break you." Fianna finally said, her voice unnervingly calm and rational, not at all like the one whom had just had the emotional outburst of before. Wiping at her cheeks and drying her face of tears, she reached into her pocket and drew out another piece of candy. As the one before, pomegranate flavored. "I will break you and tear you apart until there is nothing left."
Unwrapping the candy and popping it into her mouth, she worked it around to get the flavors flowing.
"Then we can call it square."

At that instant, the mist changed. As if a storm had suddenly struck, the mist whipped around the two rapidly; the mist lashing out against Kalen and Fianna both as if blades of darkness that threatened to cleave flesh from bone. They cut at Fianna, the girl unable or uncaring to protect herself from them, but they cut even more at Kalen. The entire mist swirled about them as if they were caught in the midst of some dark hurricane, and if things carried on as they were it was likely that both would be consumed by the storm of Fianna's 'Pirouetting Blades'.
