So... Today I got a warning from a mod, about a post I made months ago. Why? Discussing competitor sites. Mostly over PM. "Off-site advertising" was the cited reason. I was going to call them out on this and get argumentative (How the ******** is it advertising if all I'm doing is requesting information on other websites, exactly? And why only now is it having attention being called to it?) but thought better of it. With as ban happy as this place has become, it's not worth it to fight it, or venture out into the forums at all anymore.
So this thread serves a dual purpose. One as a warning to anyone who may be discussing Gaia's competition on here (its not allowed, at all, apparently) and two, to share similar stories of overzealous moderation.

Yeah, it's really not worth getting banned permanently.
That said, I thought we were fine to discuss 3rd-party sites so long as we didn't link them or explicitly advertise them? (Which, for what it's worth, I understand and kind of agree with, at least for sites that directly compete with Gaia.) Are we not even allowed to talk about other sites? o__O Because that's pretty heavy-handed.
I've never been warned or banned for anything that I've done.
I have gotten "friendly FYIs" from site mods (who were members of the GSA) that there were certain rule infractions happening in the guild that I needed to deal with as Captain. They mentioned that if the infractions were ignored, they would have to step in and possibly disable the entire guild. So, that's about as close as it gets to a warning.
Honestly, in all my time here, I've only ever been on the other end of the report process. I've gotten harassed (including random death threats because of my association with the GSA o_O ) a couple of times, which is always fun.

Get this- they site they are now banning people over is the exact same site that ADVERTISED HERE ON GAIA!
And, yes, they are ban-happy here. And they are violating the sanctity of the guilds looking for people they know are protesting the administration. Beware of anything you say here, on the forums or in PM's.
Jak Bauer is their whipping boy that is doing most of the banning since he has capabilities to go anywhere on Gaia. And now that Narumi Misuhara is VP and GM of Gaia he cannot be trusted at all. He is just as bad as the CEO and COO.
Those in command of Gaia are right on track to have Gaia tanked by the end of 2014.
It's a good thing that Matasoga got his wings done.
I got banned on my main account and DemonLadySesshomaru for trivial things- neither of which had any formal warnings, so be VERY CAREFUL!!!

The post itself was cited, which was just the request with no links or other site names mentioned at all, but they also made a mention that since PMs are part of the cite the linking in them wasn't allowed.

I guess they did and it got back to me. Oh well. Specificity was the issue. They got you for name dropping. Chinami Mizuki not exactly but I did receive my first warning like a month ago n.n
