Tomiko stretched and yawned, her mouth opening wider than she though was possible. Her bed was nice and warm, and she didn't really want to leave it, but the sun was rising and that was her cue to rise with it. Arms stretched out in front of her as she made an unhappy moan, glaring at the windows that let the sunlight through. Sure she always made herself wake up when the sun did, but that didn't mean she likes it. Tomi folded the blanket, her favorite blanket which was blue with white stars and moons on it, and put it on the end of her bed before dropping down to the floor. Slipping her signature boots on (because really, what other cat wears boots?), she started towards where the sun cast rays on the Nursery floor. It was her favorite place to spend her mornings, lounging in the sun when she couldn't be sleeping.
This morning was no different. The soft thump of the heels on her boots were surprisingly the only sound in the Nursery. Tomiko found this odd since normally at least one other sprite was an early riser. But it seemed most were content to stay in their beds this chilly morning. Which, it was chilly, but that was just one more reason to bask in the sun. It was time. The sun warmed up her upturned face as she closed her eyes and leaned into the ray of light. Tomiko didn't take long at all to lay down in the ray, her arms and legs splayed like a star as she soaked up the sun's heat thinking nothing could go wrong.

The light from the death of dawn crept warmly across the walls and the floor of the nursery, like dipping the room in caramel. Ostara liked the way that the light looked on his white fur; he followed the edge of the light as it grew in strength, stopping every so often to preen his now golden-colored body. Ostara liked these moments best of all -- the very beginning of the day, or the very end of it. They were the moments when no other creature was stirring, when he could explore without fear of predators or other nasty disturbances --
It was then that the hapless rabbit suddenly realized that the immobile lump in the middle of the floor in fact had whiskers and ears and eyes, though the eyes were currently closed. Ostara let out a frightened squeak then froze, praying that the whiskered lump would continue to slumber on.

The "lump" surely wasn't asleep, but daydreaming. Tomiko was flying high above Somnum, out of the confines of the Nursery. There it was! the forest! Oh how much she wanted to go and see the forest. Tomiko knew that as soon as she was able to be out of the Nursery she was going to see that forest and climb it's trees! But...she would have to find someone to help her down. That was always the scariest part of climbing something, the way down. In her day dream, she was about to climb that tree when a little squeak reached her ears.
That squeak wasn't in her day dream, which meant it had to come from the Nursery. But there were no sprites awake in the Nursery..she had checked before she had closed her eyes. Her eyes popped open but she didn't move. In her field of vision, she couldn't see anything, but that didn't mean there wasn't something there. Her head turned to the right and there, basking in an adjacent ray of sun, was the cutest bunny she had ever seen. Of course, it was the ONLY bunny she had ever seen but that didn't matter. Making sure to move slowly, she rolled onto her stomach and turned slightly towards the rabbit. Tomiko crossed her arms on the floor and rested her chin on them while she watched the little rabbit who seemed to be frozen. As she contemplated what to do, her tail flicked back and forth, eyes never leaving the cute little bunny.

FREEZEFREEZEFREEZEFREEZEFREEZEDON'TMOVE
Ostara listened to the voice in his head, beady eyes wide and ears lying flat. His normally rotund body had slimmed down in an effort to present as small a target as possible. The dread built up in his rapidly beating heart like a poison as he watched, horrified, as the lump rolled over and made eye contact with him. Whiskers... ears... that tail... though this lump might take a slightly unorthodox form, its identity was unmistakable: a predator.
Ostara watched the tail swaying back and forth, back and forth. This cat was definitely in the mood to play, and the little rabbit was not interested in being a part of her playtime. As the tail turned from right to left, Ostara turned and fled down the hallway, sprinting as fast as he could.

The little bunny was so adorable and all Tomiko wanted to do was pet it. But she resisted of course, because she didn't want to scare the cute little creature away. It ran anyway though. Which made Tomiko incredibly sad. "No wait!" She called out to it as she jumped to her feet to chase after it, staying behind though so she wouldn't scare it even more. Tomi knew the little bunny couldn't understand her but she couldn't resist, she wanted to pet it so bad.
"Wait little bunny I'm not going to hurt you!" She called out desperately to the bunny trying to keep it in her sights.

The cat was making loud noises at her and Ostara did not appreciate it. Another bolt of adrenaline shot through him and he doubled his speed for a few minutes before stopping to assess his surroundings. The cat did not seem quite as fast as the other cats Ostara had known before -- though it was bigger, so perhaps the extra weight was holding it down. Perhaps he had lost it.
But no -- more loud noises that Ostara identified as belonging to the cat echoed around the corner. As Ostara caught sight of the large cat barreling toward him, the rabbit took off anew. In the corner of his terrified mind, Ostara suddenly remembered a possible safe haven, a place of refuge.
With a little kick of his heels, Ostara changed direction. He skittered to a halt in front of a door and, squeezing himself as flat as he could, pushed himself underneath. He scampered up a boot, a dress, a green braid. Wake up, Fjorgyn! Wake up!

Tomiko couldn't help but pout as the little bunny continued to run and with how much she wanted to pet it, she continued to chase after it. That is, until it squished under a door. This door, she had never seen it before. Had it always been here? Had she ventured too far out of the nursery? But the bunny was in there, so didn't that mean it was safe? Taking a chance, Tomiko reached up a little, as the knob was just a little above her head, and gave it a twist. As it began to turn, she concluded the room wasn't locked, so that meant she could go in...right? Assuming yes again, she pushed the door slightly open to see what looked like a bedroom, but everything was so big! "Little bunny? I just want to pet you I'm not going to hurt you..." She called out, unaware of the sleeping giantess.

Fjorgyn woke up to the sensation of something scratching its way up her arm and the unpleasant sense of panic. It took her a moment to realize the fear was not her own. Sleepily, she opened her eyes to see a trembling Ostara nestled in the curve of her braid. The giantess reached out a finger to gently stroke his trembling body. What's wrong, Ostara? But Ostara refused to or was unable to answer coherently, other than a strong sense of danger running like electricity through Fjorgyn's mind.
Then, Fjorgyn heard the voice of another creature. She sat up in alarm, belatedly realizing it sounded somewhat familiar... Slowly, she turned to face the doorway. She squinted at the sprite in front of her. "...Tomiko?" she whispered in disbelief.

The cat had not been expecting another sprite in the large room and it made her jump and scramble out. But when the voice called out her name, the really familiar voice, her hands grabbed the edge of the door and she peeked her head around it to see familiar green braids. "Sweet Pea! Fjorgyn! The Giantess!" She shouted. No longer afraid, she scrambled back into the room. "Wowww so this is your room? Is that your bunny? You can talk to animals right? Can you tell it that I didn't mean to hurt it and I'm sorry for scaring it?" Tomiko said in a rush as her excitement got the better of her. A big grin was on her face as she was glad that it was a familiar sprite and not an unfamiliar one.

Fjorgyn's smile was huge and genuine as she took in the unexpected yet welcome sight of her friend. Last time Fjorgyn had seen the little cat sprite, she'd been lying seemingly lifeless in the midst of that awful river...
It's okay, Ostara, Fjorgyn told the rabbit, who was still quaking on her head. Gently, she reached up to offer her hand as a perch. Tomiko is a friend. She won't hurt you. She offered her cupped hand toward Tomiko as an offering of peace, but Ostara was having none of it. Indignantly, he bounded back up her arm and took refuge in her hair once more. Fjorgyn sighed. "Sorry, Tomiko," she said. "Ostara doesn't like cats."

Tomiko frowned as she thought, a hand absent-mindedly scratched an ear. She supposed that was one of the things she always forgot yet would never forget. It made sense now why the bunny ran from her, and she felt even bad for scaring it. Though she never would have hurt the bunny if she had caught it, she still probably gave it a heart attack while it was running from her. "I...did not think of that. I'm sorry little bunny...who's name is Ostara? Its a pretty name. Is it your pet Fjorgyn?" Her own heart had calmed down now so her voice returned to a normal speaking tone and she wasn't talking nearly as fast.
Her attention turned to the Fjorgyn sized room. Everything was so big in it, but she supposed that if this was Fjorgyn's room it was appropriately sized. Tomiko thought of her own bed in the nursery and how her own bed seemed so small in comparison. Tomiko gave Fjorgyn a big smile again as she returned from her own thoughts.

Fjorgyn blinked at Tomiko's questions. Pet? She wouldn't consider Ostara exactly a pet... "No," she said awkwardly, and paused for an uncomfortable amount of time before realizing she should probably elaborate. "Ostara is my friend.'
What is the cat doing? Why won't it leave now? Ostara asked. Fjorgyn translated the contents of their dialogue into bunny thought. Hmph, sniffed Ostara disdainfully. Pet, indeed!
"Where did you come from, Tomiko?" Fjorgyn said hastily. "I didn't expect to see you after..." she trailed off, not wanting to think about the awful night in the forest.

A friend? The bunny was her friend? That was adorable! Tomiko still had the urge to touch the bunny but wouldn't do so unless it allowed her to. "I wish I had a friend as cute as Ostara! Not that you aren't cute or my friend...you're...my pretty friend!" Tomiko said awkwardly. She rocked back and forth from the heel of her boots to the toes, a satisfying click of her heels on the ground helped her resist the urge to pet the bunny.
"I came from the Nursery. I...I guess I'm one of the younger sprites, only having emerged from my bottle not long ago. I...honestly never expected to see anybody else from that. I'd never seen any of you before then so I didn't expect to after..." She trailed off. The memory of that forest, of Sorrel holding her hand as he was pulled under the murky, bloody water. Her own throat threatened to close as she recalled herself being pulled under. With a big intake of breath, she grounded herself along with the soft click of her heels. There were a few tears in her eyes as she thought of Sorrel, her friend. Tomi closed her eyes and willed the vision away. It was apparent that any memory of that terrible night affected her greatly.

It seemed that neither wanted to linger too long on the circumstances of their first meeting, and Fjorgyn was fine with that. Fjorgyn was alarmed to see tears even forming in the little sprite's eyes! The giantess spoke lightly to distract from such horrible thoughts of the past. "This is part of the Nursery too," she said.
Ostara seemed unimpressed by their chatter, though no longer petrified that the cat thing was going to eat him. If you won't make it go away, he said, then I'm leaving. He hopped off her shoulder and darted for the door.
Ah, wait! Fjorgyn tried to say, but the rabbit was already gone. "Ostara!" she said aloud, rushing after him.

With the tears gone from her eyes, she put a smile on her face again. It seemed the nursery was larger than Tomiko ever thought. With her silly thinking face, she tried to encompass just how big the Nursery was, but couldn't quite get it all down. Her thoughts were interrupted by a sudden flurry of movement. The pretty bunny jumped down from Fjorgyn's shoulder and ran out the door! Fjorgyn was too late and Tomiko hadn't realized what was going on quick enough. Her new friend seemed intent on getting the bunny back as she raced out the door after the bunny. "Ah Fjorgyn! Wait!" She said as she raced as fast as she could on her smaller sprite legs after the giantess.
