User ImageThe sun was high, shining down on the snow covered ground of Phonyland. The sky was clear, and phonies of all kinds were out and about in an attempt to savor what could possibly be the last good day of Fall left. After all it was a perfect, snowy day, who wouldn't be enjoying it? Well, if you must know, there actually was a phony that wasn't enjoying the amazing warmth that the day provided; Salvo Overcast. Though her bright colors may lead one to believe that such a beautiful day was her element, it actually wasn't. No, it was actually quite the contrary. The young filly loved the cloudy days that came before the storm, a day that would provide her with the entertainment of chasing after herds of the puffy looking substance, able to daydream and make little stories to herself with the shapes they made. Though of course that wasn't always going to be the case, so what was her alternative to the situation? Well, that was a very simple and easy question to answer; Baseball. Of course it wasn't a sport that fillies should be expected to play, especially with snow blanketing the ground, but who ever said she was a normal filly? No, Sal was much far beyond that according to societies expectations. Besides, a little baseball never hurt anyone!

A saddlebag holding down the bat onto her back while the bay was resting in her pouch, Sal looked around at the many different faces that passed by her in an attempt to find anyone that wanted to play with her. Everyone had seemed to be busy though, talking among themselves or attempting to get done with any chores they had remaining before the ground would completely freeze over. So she kept on, trying to find somephony to play with before she quite possibly would die of boredom. Her travels had eventually taken her to some houses near the seashore, a relatively empty area. Though that made sense, considering that most of the sea-faring phonies were probably out and about trying to get their last catch of the season in. Giving a defeated sigh, Salvo looked aronud with her large, curious green orbs in a final attempt to discover another filly or colt that just so happened to be around. About to give up, the yellow-bodied filly began turning around until something, no someone, caught her eye. A gasp passed her lips then, followed by a shriek of excitement as she trotted over to the other. "Hey there!" She shouted eagerly, waving a hoof a bit before eagerly continuing on before stopping a good distance away. "Gosh, 'never though i'd happen upon someone else out 'ere! Been goin' about all day lookin' fer someone that wasn't busy or anythin'-- 'less you are busy...ack I didn't even check or anythin'...i'm sorry fer botherin' you if I did--ah gosh i'm not really good with these things...maybe I should just leave you alone....sorry!" Sal already began backing away, feeling like a complete and utter idiot for not even minding the other's personal space. Of course they were busy! No one else was free, so why did she even think the other was free! She didn't even know the phony yet approached...her... like they were long lost friends! "Idiot idiot idiot..." She thought and even grumbled to herself, giving a little facehoof for good measure to further punish herself for acting without thinking. Ahh...she really was an air-head...what was the filly going to think of her now!? Oh no...she should've high-tailed it out of here while she had the chance! But...maybe the she was free and they could perhaps play? Well...sticking out whatever lashing the filly was probably going to give was the only way to find out...

((Sorry I took so long! I was trying to think but it was extremely hard with my cousins and such screaming, throwing each other on the couch, ect ect...so if there's anything that makes little to no sense just ignore it since it was probably written while I was yelling at them vnv. Anyway, hopefully this works but if there's anything I should change then tell me!
And of course Salvo starts off with meeting others on quite the awkward hoof vuv))

Shore leave again. And on a snow day, no less. Filly Buster was less than thrilled.

Though, once she got out in it, it wasn't so bad. Snow at sea was unpleasant, coating the sails of the ship and piling up on the decks. It piled up on land too, but it looked prettier that way. And walking in it was kind of fun, with the way it crunched under her hooves. For a while she was content to run around and make hoofprint patterns in the snow. Then the newness wore off and she was bored again.

But not for long. Buster was kind of thrilled to be interrupted in the middle of her doing nothing. She quickly became irritated when the other filly just seemed to go on, and on, and on... "Sea serpents, just spit it out already!" she cried in exasperation. "Ye can't jus' start talkin' and walk off like that!"

Sea what?

Seems like this filly had her own way of speaking as well, but that just made this encounter all the more interesting. And she was free? Looks like Sal hit the jackpot in terms of ways she could entertain herself today! Beaming brightly now and once again moving over to the other, the young filly began to happily tell the other of the plans she had for today. "Well uh, I was wonderin' if ya might wanna play baseball or sun'in! There's nothin' else I can really think of doin'," Since she obviously couldn't think of something practical like snow-ball fights. " 'n i've been trying to find someone that I could play with."

Before the other could answer, Sal had already taken to scouting out a spot where they could play. That one spot by what seemed to be a restaurant wasn't that bad, enough space to mark out the for bases and everything! "And I can pitch...i'm Sal by the way! Or well uh, Salvo Overcast...much too long though so I shorten it out...c'mon!" She beckoned the other over, starting off and already beginning to make the bases with her hooves. Yea...this seemed like a good spot! She abandoned her saddlebag at the 'home base', running off to make the others while occasionally looking back to see if the other was planning on joining her anytime soon. This was going to be so cool!

Buster's impatience quickly gave way to delight. She wasn't really sure how one played baseball- there was no room for that sort of thing on a ship- but it sounded like fun. Anything was more fun than walking around by herself. And it couldn't be harder than tying knots or polishing cannons. "If ye show me the basics, 'm sure I can pick it up."

The introduction made her toss her head and strike a pose. "I'm Filly Buster," she announced proudly, "Scourge of the Phony Seas! And ye be callin' me Buster, never Filly, or I'll feed ye to the sharks! Got that, Sallywag?"

Once she had delivered her (rather short) speech, she was quite happy to run after Sal, taking off her own bag while the other phony seemed to be running around in a circle. Suddenly, Buster began to have second thoughts. She hadn't meant to sign up for even more running. If this game was boring, she was going to have to find an excuse to go.

Once done, Salvo looked around to take a look at her handiwork only to notice one major error in what she had done: There were no teams! No matter, she could always change up the rules of the game to fit with two phonies! But, before any of the could happen, the sound of a certain nickname being cast upon her caused the filly's nose to scrunch up quite a bit in distaste. "Hate that name...just call me Sal if yer gonna call me any shortened version of m' name..."

Wandering back over to the other, who she now finally recognized to be a pegasus with a momentary look of surprise, Sal began to gesture to the field that laid before them. "All right...this here's a Baseball Field...or well a made-up one. Though, these bases don't really matter...'cause you won't be able to get to none of 'em if you can't hit the ball! So...how much do you reckon you can lift with those wings of yers? 'Less y'wanna try hittin' it while holdin' the bat in yer mouth...whatever floats yer boat!" Good one Sal, good one. Picking up the ball with her own mouth, the filly sped off to a spot in the middle of the field before holding it with her hoof. "Ready when you are, Buster!" Caught up in a moment of glee, Salvo hadn't even begun to think about how dangerously close they were to the restaurant, but not like that would ever matter, right? Nah, the pegasus probably wouldn't be able to hit that far, even when she did learn how to hit! This distance was A-Ok for her!

DivineSaturn

((Salvo really is the only one that would mind that nickname xD))
PostPosted: Sun Dec 01, 2013 9:21 pm

Well then. Buster could understand not liking certain nicknames. And she could respect a fellow filly who stood up for herself. Still, she was a pirate, so she would probably sneak another Sallywag in later, just because.

The game didn't sound like it made a whole lot of sense. If the bases- whatever they were- didn't matter, then why bring them up? And why mention wings? Sal didn't have wings, and she was going to play too, wasn't she?

And how dare anyone say that she couldn't do something? Buster's anger flared up. "I be real good at hitt'n stuff," she said seriously. She didn't spend all that time practicing her swordplay for nothing! "The sea floats me ship, an' I'll show ye jus' how much!"

With that odd retort, she took up the bat and nodded. Whatever Sal had, Buster was sure she could beat it.

Grinning from her spot, Sal let out an amused chuckle to how the other reacted to what she said. "Well then don't go on about how good ye are! Show me!" The filly called over to the other, tossing up the ball a couple of times. The way Buster also had handled her comment about 'whatever floats your boat' was pretty interesting as well, making sure to take note to try other sayings and see how literal she would take them some other time. Haha, what a strange filly!

"Batter up!" It wasn't really something necessary to say, mainly being included just so she could get a further feel for the game they were about to play. Ah, this was so exciting! She hadn't played the game for quite a bit, but was 100% positive that she could still throw the ball pretty darn well. Though she'd never actually struck out a phony before, perhaps today would be her lucky day?

Closing an eye and taking a deep breath, Salvo closed a single eye in order to take aim on the pegasus and make an estimate as to where the ball should be thrown. "Right....there!" A hoof thrown forward, the ball slipping out of her grasp and heading straight on towards Buster, tail twitching almost feverishly in anticipation to see if the other would make it on her first try. "Bet'cha can't hit'er on the first time!"

A bit too late, Buster noticed how different the bat felt in her hands from a sword or a pistol. It was far more solid, and much heavier. But then, the swords she practiced with were made of foam, and the pistols filled with water. This was a real wooden bat, and it was harder to swing than she realized.

Her first try came just after the ball had whizzed past her. Frowning, she dropped the bat for a moment and pawed at the ground with all four hooves. "That was jus' practice!" she announced. "I be gettin' it right now, jus' you wait 'n see!"

Because nobody could tell Filly Buster that she couldn't do something. Not even a potential new friend.

Watching as the ball flew by the other, Sal couldn't help but make a little chuckle. "Haha, it's alright if ya can't hit it on the first try! 'Mean, I couldn't either. but you'll learn!" She tried to be as enthusiastic as possible about the little mishap in an attempt to cheer up the clearly upset filly. Noticing how the ball was still all the way on the other side of the field, the young yellow phony began to run off from her spot. "I got it!"

Finally happening upon the baseball, the filly dusted the snow off of it before picking it up and running back to her previous spot. "Ready!?" She called, tossing the ball a bit more. There had to be a way to further motivate the other...what if she stroke a nerve? That could work...

Mumbling to herself a bit, it took a moment before Salvo could find what she considered to be a 'decent' insult to hopefully help the other out. "Hey Buster! Yer boat's nothin' more than a dinky tug!" She hollered, throwing the ball at that instant.

Even if the laughter wasn't meant in a mean way, it still got Filly Buster riled up. She wasn't some silly schoolmare! She was a pirate, and pirates did not get laughed at. No, this had to change. She hefted the bat again. It was much more weighty than her swords, but once she was used to it, it didn't drag her down too badly.

It was just some silly lubber's game. She could totally beat it. And, much as she liked Sal, she couldn't wait to wipe the smirk off the other filly's face.

She took the bat and swung it a couple of times experimentally. Now, she was ready. More than ready, when Sal let loose her latest insult. Buster's cheeks went red with a mixture of embarrassment and fury. It was one thing to mess with a pirate, and quite another to mess with her ship. The ship that Salty had worked so hard on, that they all took care of. "Ye won' get away wit' insultin' the Flirty Mermaid!"

This time, the ball hit the bat with a satisfying 'crack.' Then, it went sharply to the right and hit the window of the nearby restaurant with a considerably less satisfying 'crash!'

Filly Buster dropped the bat in horror. Then, without being given any such direction, her legs carried her off towards some bushes nearby. If whoever's restaurant that was found her, she'd be in so much trouble!

Keeping her eye on the ball, Sal enthusiastically watched as it went towards the other filly. This was it, the shot at redemption. But, just as quickly as she happily stood, the phony threw herself onto the ground with a yelp to avoid a ball that seemed 100% bent on revenge. And boy, how that split second of contact really did sound like a shot!

And what came after only made the situation seem even more startling. Slowly easing back onto her hooves, Salvo slowly began to turn her head towards the source of the sound. "Uh oh..." The only sound she could utter at the time, staring bug-eyed at the broken window to the restaurant. And it didn't take long for her to follow the same actions that Buster had taken not too long ago. It was out of a sheer moment of panic, so much that she couldn't clearly think of the right thing to do. Her breath hitched a bit as she waited inside a bush parallel to the blue phony's taking a long moment to regain her composure again. "Dang Buster..." Sal began in a whisper, barely able to look over at the other through the thick of the leaves. "One heck a a swing you got there." Though the joke was one to make light of the situation, it was still clear that hiding wasn't going to be a long-term remedy.

Clearing her throat, the yellow filly began to paw at the snow-less ground that the floor under the bush held, thinking to herself for a moment before speaking up again. "Can't stay here forever...what do ya figure we should do?"

"I dunno," Buster whispered back. Her traitorous legs were shaking now, and she took offense to that. She was a pirate! Pirates were never scared. Especially not scared of lubbers, or wrecking things. That was practically her passion, and one of the reasons she took such good care of the weapons. Wrecking things was fun!

No, she corrected herself. Wrecking things on purpose was fun. Doing it by accident was wrong and, much as she hated to admit it, kind of scary. Whoever owned that restaurant had every right to be mad.

"I ain't got 'nuff coin t'fix that," she hissed. "An' anyway, pirates don' pay fer things. We take what we need, and ye walk the plank if ye try'n fight it!"

Except now she was on land. She had no plank for anyone to walk. And it wasn't fair of her to leave without doing anything. But what could she do?

Nodding as the other spoke, Sal chewed on her bottom lip for a moment before shaking her head. She didn't have any bits on her either, but it didn't mean they couldn't say something. "Well...we might not have 'nough money fer it but...can't we at least tell'em it was us? It's wrong fer whoever owns that place to be all stung bitter 'cause they dunno who broke their window. 'N maybe they'll be easy on us 'cause we're just a couple'a fillies that really meant no harm by what we were doin'!"

It seemed like a legitimate enough plan, simply admitting the little mishap that had occurred. And, even if the other hadn't agreed, Salvo was already beginning to emerge from the bushes and shake herself off before walking at a slow pace to the restaurant. Her tail occasionally flicked, a way to beckon Buster over if she ever came up with what she was going to do.

But, as she grew nearer and nearer to the building, the filly's confidence began to slowly diminish, What if whoever owned the building was really mean? Or really heart-broken with what happened? What if they got in really 'deep water' so to say? No...that didn't matter. It's doing the right thing that needed to be done and, with a shake of her head then a nod, she went forward with her head held high. Sure, telling the truth was difficult sometimes but, as a certain colt had taught her, sometimes it was the best to do, no matter how hard it may be.

Pirates did own up to what they did. No, it went beyond that: no self-respecting pirate would try to hide what they were doing, even if it was wrong. As a self-respecting pirate of the highest degree, Filly Buster knew she had to take a stand. But it was so hard to admit that she had made a mistake. The whole thing was just a stupid accident. Couldn't they pretend it had never happened?

No, probably not. And at least she wasn't doing it alone. Buster followed close behind Sal, taking a small amount of comfort from the other phony's presence. Even if she didn't have her crew with her, she had a friend she could count on. Hopefully. That hought gave her the strength to knock at the door.

Then the door opened, and she dodged behind Sal before she knew what she was doing. Silly legs, acting on their own again.

"Heya!"

Anyone imagining some mean or distraught phony would be disappointed when Sunny opened the door wide, a giant grin on her face. "Welcome to Cloud Nine! You've missed breakfast, but there's still lotsa yummies here! Oh, be careful when you come in, there's some glass on the floor. So watch your step, okay? I don't want anyone getting hurt!"

It didn't take long for Sal to notice the other, smiling at Buster a bit before looking back ahead. This was it, the moment of truth. Would the phony behind the door truly be how she feared? A knock, then a swift opening following not too long after. A long sigh of relief followed afterwards, thankful of the mare's bright and cheery demeanor. Maybe this wouldn't be that bad.

Though there was something to be admitted, it would be even worse if the offer to come in was denied. Carefully following the owner's instructions, Salvo made her way inside the building while nodding on for the blue filly to follow. The restaurant was quaint on the inside, calming and full of a very noticeable cheeriness to it; it matched the mare's attitude to a T. "Wow...nice place ya got!" Salvo commented, looking over at Sunny with a big smile. "Cloud Nine, huh? I love clouds! More points to Cloud Nine!" A laugh was squeezed in afterwards, but there was a noticeable nervousness to the tone. Especially when she saw the baseball not too far away from the shattered glass.

"Uh...I....we...have something to tell you..." Sal started, occasionally glancing over at Buster. "And it had to do with all this er, glass on the floor..."
