"Mommy, can we pleeeease go for a walk like you promised yesterday? Please!?" the little Hybrid said with a grand smile across his face.

"Well who could say no to that adorable face, hehe? Go put on your winter clothes and then we can go." Kavanna said as she bent down to Damian's level, giving him a hug before he left.

The boy went skipping up the stairs to his bedroom. Kavanna also went to ready herself for the chilly day.

"Where are you two off to?" Alex asked as Kavanna came into the room and began to undress.

"I promised Dom yesterday that we could go on a walk. I'll take him to Lake Amafel, eat a bite of lunch, and come back as soon as I can. Meanwhile, you can go out and do another dragon hunt; after all you're almost finished with your training. You'll be a Master before our wedding for sure. I still have so much work to do to obtain my Mastery, but I'll start back up after Dom is grown a bit." she said, picking out her heavier clothes and placing them on the bed before beginning to put them on.

"Yeah, but you're a great mother. Putting everything on hold for our son. You'll be great though when you finally do get to go back and finish your training. Have I told you lately that I love you?" Alex continued, coming up behind his fiance and giving her a kiss on the back of her neck.

"Only every day, love." the Dovaa giggled a bit and turned around, giving him a kiss.

"Eww! That's gross!" the little Hybrid said, covering his eyes as he walked into his parents room, dressed just as Kavanna had wanted him.

"Hehe, well is it gross if I do this!" Kavanna said, letting go of Alex and running after the playfully screaming Hybrid. The only thing Alex could do was laugh at the display.

"Alright, alright, enough playing. Lets get going on our walk." Kavanna said, trying to catch her breath a bit. The two said their goodbyes and were off on an adventure.

Damian was constantly skipping ahead of his mother, admiring the beautiful landscape that Serenia had to offer. The chilling breeze blowing through his hair. He loved the cold weather, he couldn't get enough of it.

Soon, they arrived at Lake Amafel, one of the beautiful clear water lakes in Serenia. There they sat, readying their meal for lunch. It was time to just sit back and enjoy.

All Maslin wanted was a quiet afternoon near lake Amafel. His early morning had been spent learning to dodge, heel turn and very other evasive maneuver his family felt it necessary for him to know. Training for his upcoming foray's into fighting dragons, they called it. Maslin felt it was a massive waste of time and energy on everyone's behalf. He was never going to be a proper hunter, he just didn't have the inclination to throw himself at physical challenges. No he was never going to be a real hunter or soldier.

Still, his mother had said it was high time he grew up and learned to fight at least enough to protect himself whatever the situation. Maslin knew it was tradition, that the whole family could fight to some degree or another even if most had chosen crafting and trading for their careers. He didn't have to like it though and had complained several times throughout the session. To the young hybrid this was still an unneeded burden as he had always made certain to never put himself in a position where he'd need to use violence to escape.

As he approached the northern tip of the lakeshore Maslin halted in his tracks and frowned slightly. He could make out two sitting figures in the distance. Despite squinting his amber tinted eyes Maslin could not make out finer details. Whoever they were and whatever they wanted it seemed innocent enough. As long as they didn't bother him Maslin could live with sharing the space with them and it wasn't like he owned the lake or anything.

Determined not to let the rest of his day be ruined, Maslin move a bit closer towards the strangers and then parked himself down into his preferred resting spot. Here there was a nice old tree that he could rest his back against and bundled up as he was it's bark did not bite into his skin or cause any discomfort. As he settled in Maslin relaxed and let his mind drift a little.

After a small bite of lunch, Kavanna sat back against an old tree, looking up at the golden leaves that canvased the area. The wintery chill was nice, but at the same time she needed an escape. It was nice to just have a relaxing day near the lake.

Damian on the other hand wanted nothing more but to play. After their lunch, scurried down to the rivers edge and dipped his bare fingers into the icy cold water. It was cold to the touch, but he loved the feeling.

During their meal, Kavanna had noticed another, what looked to be a Dovaa, coming up and sitting under another old tree just across the way. He looked as though he was coming for relaxation as well. That was good, for she didn't want to have to worry about protecting her little boy, just as long as they could all get along and there was no need for violence, she was okay. She pulled her wings back and just began to also let her mind drift.

Damian however, didn't notice the stranger until he was coming back from touching the lakes icy liquid. He noticed the stranger and then looked at his mother, who seemed to be drifting off to sleep herself.

It was time that he took the initiative and did something on his own. He went for it, walking up slowly to the stranger, his mother not noticing at all.

"Hey Mister...what are you doing here?" the little Hybrid asked, blinking his large lavender eyes a few times with a confused look on his face. He stood there, baffled at the thought that other people may be out at the lake this time of year as well. They hadn't encountered anyone at all their entire walk to the lake and now, seeing someone show up out of the blue was just surprising to his little five year old mind.

Maslin had turned his head towards the sound of feet tromping through the snow and carefully watched a small dovaa child approach him. There was nothing threatening or really worrisome about someone so small and the bright haired boy remained relaxed. "Just thinking," he answered in response to the younger boy's question. "What about you? Why are you out here playing in the cold?" It wasn't meant to be an accusation, Maslin simply didn't understand those who preferred cold weather to warm.

"I came out here because me and my mommy are taking a walk. What'cha thinkin' 'bout?" Damian responded, his arms meeting behind him, going to his tip toes and then back to the ground.

It was then that Kavanna realized that Damian wasn't around. "DOM, why did you just leave without telling me? I'm so sorry if he bothered you." the mother said, running to her son, grabbing his shoulders, looking at the boy against the tree.

Maslin shook his head and offered the boy's mother a reassuring smile. "He's not a bother." While he might hold reservations about most people, this strange woman included, it was hard to be suspicious of children even younger than himself. Besides that all he'd been asked were innocent questions, there'd not yet been a chance to try and pry the information from him which usually ended in arguments and Maslin finding other places to try and think.

With a gloved hand he tucked a few stray strands of pale orange hair behind an ear before addressing the smaller dovaa again. " I'm thinking about eggs, have you seen any weirdly large ones around here lately?" Maslin and his family were still unsure of just what the heck it was he'd brought home. There were rumours and speculation going about the camp but it'd be nice to know for sure before the thing hatched. It was a long shot but maybe this boy and his mother had come across a nest during their walk?

Kavanna had begun to pull back on her boy, reassured that he hadn't bothered this little Dovaa too much. But, then he began to speak about an egg of sorts. Who knew what he was talking about? Maybe a dragon's egg?

"An egg? Like, a dragon's egg?" she asked, mildly curious as to what the boy was talking about.

"Yeah, mommy, like the eggs gran uses when she cooks breakfast." the little boy said, a sweet smile and look of satisfaction on his face.

"Well, honey, if they're large, than they aren't going to be a Ysali egg. Those are what gran uses for breakfast. How large are you talking? Maybe it's a Firani, or even a Gaili dragon egg? Those are overly huge. I've only seen one Gaili egg, but mostly I've been around Firani eggs lately." Kavanna said, first smiling down at her boy, then taking the time to turn the attention back to the little Dovaa in front of her.

Maslin was not overly familiar with dragon eggs, he knew in general what a few looked like but his family didn't use them often and he was not the sort to go nest raiding for fun. " It's like a really big melon or a pumpkin, only blue," he replied with a slight frown. "It could be a lot of things but it always seems the wrong size or colour or shell texture for everything that makes sense." The only options left were not ones Maslin or his family were entirely comfortable with and some of them seemed pretty far fetched.

Whatever hatched it would be his responsibility until it could care for itself. Maslin would prefer his temporary charge to not be something that'd make his life extra difficult. Not that he had a lot of room to complain, he owed whatever creature grew inside the egg a chance at a decent life. It was an awkward child's view of justice and morality that made him feel responsible for the only survivor of his sledding accident.

Banishing the darker thoughts from his mind Maslin found himself amused by the enthusiasm the younger boy, who's name he really should learn, was showing. All his cousins were older or near the same age as he was so he didn't spend much time around little children.

Kavanna looked puzzled. A blue egg that was the size of a melon? That seemed rare, for as far as Kavanna knew, Peisio eggs were much larger than a simple melon, and anything the size of a melon was mostly a Kiandri egg. Blue was definitely not the color a Kiandri egg generally was. Of course, most all dragons of their individual clans looked very similar, only difference between them would be scars or small size differences, not very large ones.

"That's strange...a small Peisio egg perhaps, though they are normally much larger than a melon." Kavanna replied. "Oh, how rude of me! I haven't even introduced us! I'm Kavanna, and this is my son, Damian." she said, moving closer and holding out her scaled hand to the stranger.

"Yep! I'm Damian, that's D-A-M...I...A-N. Damian." the little blond haired Hybrid said with a smile and slight chuckle, counting the letters on his fingers as he said them aloud.

Maslin was pretty positive if a dragon popped out of his egg he was going to be in a lot of trouble. There were far too many things that could go wrong if that came to pass. It didn't help that being as young as he still was , anything that was trouble for him was trouble for his whole family.

When offered Kavanna's hand's he shook it tentatively, he had no idea how much strength a full dovaa had in their hands. There was a lot about the missing half of his parentage that Maslin didn't know. Of course a small part of him also didn't care. His father had abandoned his mother, to the best of his knowledge, and no relatives on that side had ever sought him out. Though it was the dovaa in his blood that he resembled most it was the side of him that Maslin was most conflicted about.

He laughed softly at Damian's introduction then held his hand out to him as well. "I'm Maslin, it's got an s in the middle and not a zed although I don't know why" he confided in the smaller boy. To this day Maslin struggled with words that had silent letters or letters that weren't making the sound they were supposed to.

The boy giggled at the comment and took the larger hand in both of his. "It's really great to see you!" he said. "I'm called Dom at home, but that's because my gran doesn't like to call me Dam, because she says that it isn't a good word to use, but no one else really cares, and she says that Damian is too much to say sometimes, so everyone just calls me Dom instead, like D-O...M, but I'm still supposed to spell out my full name when I write because I guess when I get old and go to school, the teacher won't let me use my nickname on tests and stuff like that." he continued, rambling off like most children do.

His mother giggled. "You mean "meet you", silly. And that's right. Gran didn't like us calling him Dam all the time, so we changed it to Dom and it stuck. I even tried calling him Dame at one point, but my mother-in-law wouldn't have it. So, Dom is just as good, huh honey." she said, rubbing the boys back.

"Mhmm! I like Dom a lot! I'm going to tell all the boys and girls at my school to call me that when I get old and start to go." he said with a smile.

"So, Maslin, what brings you all the way out to Serenia to think? The Celestial Plane has some beautiful scenery and it's not nearly as far away from the academy. I mean, I guess if you wanted a spacious lake, the Celestial Plane doesn't really compare, but it's also much colder out here in Magesc than up there. Just out of curiosity if you don't mind me asking." Kavanna said, her curiosity spiked a moment realizing that the Dovaa before her was out here, alone, in the freezing cold, whereas the Celestial Plane was at least a little bit warmer.

Ahh and here it was, the moment he was mistaken for a pureblooded dovaa and had to correct someone. Somedays it would be easier to just lie but Maslin hated liars and refused to become one himself. "I'm not welcome there," he began his voice mildly tinged with bitterness. Still he tried to keep his tone less accusatory then a few days ago when he had lost his cool amongst peers at a festival. " I can pass for a pure dovaa but I'm not." Well he could pass when he had clothes on and wings away. There was no hiding his nature when shirtless or with his feathery wings visible.

Kavanna was a bit shocked to hear the news. A Hybrid as well? That would make this meeting even more special. She began, "I'm sor-" but was interrupted by Damian before she could finish.

"Oh me neither! I'm a Dovaa like my mommy, and an Orderite like my daddy. My mommy says that I can only visit when I go with her or one of my uncles." he said with a giggle. He hadn't realized the pressure that being a Hybrid was quite yet.

Kavanna smiled, she knew that being banished was hard, she had gone through it for giving birth to a Hybrid. Though, those restrictions were lifted upon seeing Damian for the first time. They would never allow him to go alone, however, not until he was of age to realize the troubles being a Hybrid presented.

"W-well have you ever wanted to go visit anyway? I know how hard it is to be banished. I was for a couple years, before we realized that Damian here was growing to look more like a Dovaa than an Orderite. You look much like a Kiandri Dovaa, you could probably make it in there, especially if you had someone with you." she said, almost in a way to suggest that she would someday take him there if he so desired. She liked this boy thus far, he was quite a kind lad and she recognized that off the bat.

Maslin was surprised to learn that Damian was like himself, only with the halves giving him his mixed blood changed around. He didn't seem bothered about it though, whether that was due to age or simply a less difficult life thus far Maslin wasn't sure. He was a little jealous to be honest but to grow up under different circumstances would have meant a different family and Maslin simply couldn't imagine a world where he didn't know the people he'd been raised by.

Maslin smiled at Kavanna's offer but shook his head which caused his pale orange locks of hair to sway about. " I won't lie about what I am." He paused for a moment and chewed on his lower lip nervously before continuing. "If you'd tell me things sometimes I'd appreciate it. If you're going to be around this area for a while anyways." It'd be nice to have a dovaa he could talk to and ask any questions that came up. He was getting older after all and who knew what dovaa's bodies did as they matured.

He still didn't fully trust Kavanna, she wasn't family and he'd only this meeting to base an opinion of her on. What Maslin did know was that as mother to a hybrid she had to have certain feelings on politics and she'd be safe enough to discuss some topics with. Perhaps if they had the winter to meet during he could develop a better picture of who she really was and just how comfortable he could be around her.

" Do you have a lot of uncles?" he asked, directing the question at Damian. He didn't want to leave the younger male out of the conversation and well uncles were something he knew well and could talk about with little trouble.

Kavanna smiled and nodded. "That's a very brave thing to do, and I applaud you on that." she began, allowing him to continue before she responded. "If you'd like to talk, Dom and I live here in Serenia, up near Ashen City and the docks. If you ever find your way through the city, we live in a little cottage just outside of it down near the ocean, right on the beach. You could come for a visit if you ever need to discuss anything. I'm more than willing to help out a Hybrid. After all, I know how hard it is to be treated like a piece of dirt by the guards. I would love it if you came by." she concluded, still standing tall.

Damian listened quietly to his mother, looking up at her as she talked. A smile grew upon his face when the other Dovaa began to talk to him. "I have...one...two...three...yeah, three uncles and three aunts too. But my uncles are all Dovaa and two of my aunts are Orderites. Then there's aunt Mel, she's a Dovaa too, and I have a cousin named Nadia and Gran and Pops. Pops lives in the Plane. I had Gamma, but she left last year and no one knows where she is. She's just lost I think. I miss my Gamma." he said, a downcast face appeared.

Kavanna rubbed his back, a quick roll of her eyes occurred when he began talking about "Gamma".
