I have the big head issue too, but it's not that bad. It just happens to look horrible in conjunction with everything else that I screw up. ><
I'm worst at the whole neck/shoulders/arms area. They never seem to connect right, and my characters always look totally blah because the problem messes up the poses.
Okies... time to take out my "Fashion Illustrations" notes!
mrgreen FRONTAL POSITION (STANDING - No perspectives or body positions):
1. Body Proportion: From my notes, it is said that the figure should be about four heads high from the crown of the head, down to the "crotch".The average figure should be about 8 and half heads tall (foot included). As for the shoulders, it should be approximately three heads wide (the width of the head).
2. Arms: The point that connects the upper and lower arm should align with the waist. The hand reaches down to about mid-thigh.
3. Legs: The thigh should be about two heads long and the calf should also be about two "heads" high. It can be three, according to my professor.
idea TIP: If you're having trouble with body positioning, try using trapezoidal boxes. A larger one for the upper torso and a smaller one for the lower torso (aka hips). As I've told Satsun, if you draw an axis down the middle of the body starting from the throat, the line should go somewhere in between the legs.
When drawing hair, you shouldn't draw the hair on as you draw the body. I suggest drawing the person bald and completely naked (you can just give them a bra and panties, I do that
xd ). Draw the hair on the head. Make sure that there is some space between the head and the top of the hair.
I hope it works for you. It worked for me, and my characters look MUCH better.
3nodding If it would help, I can scan in my notes for you.
