"I don't like my coat, Papa." It wasn't so much the coat that he disliked as much as the fact that it was so itchy against his feathery arms and it seemed to squish his little wings, it always left them a bit messed up which mean he had to preen them to get them back in place. It was what he was forced to wear, as well as a headband, to hide or disguise his bird features. He seemed to understand, at least to a point, why it was that he had to wear such things outside of the graveyard but it didn't mean that he really had to like it. He had yet to see the dangerous men that his Papa spoke of but he was sure that they were around, Papa wouldn't lie about that. His Papa had explained to him on more then one occasion that non-humans weren't really welcome in this world and it could get him kicked out 'or worse' not that he had eve gone into detail about what the 'or worse' was. The boy's imagination filled in a few ideas that had just made his wings twitch in distaste... after all living in a graveyard made it so he wasn't really blind to the idea of death.
"Once we get home you can take it off, for now it stays on even when we go inside the stores." He told the boy that was hanging onto one of his strong hands with both of his own, smaller ones. He glanced down at him, his own gaze the same color as that of his son and held a very protective look in the depths of them, "You will promise me that you will keep on your headband and your coat, Adelbert, I want your word on it."
The boy gave a little sigh then a nod of his head, nuzzling against the man's arm in an affectionate manner, "Promise, Papa, you have my word." He said, knowing that now that he'd said those words that he had to stick to them. If there was anything that his father disliked most it was dishonest people, well among others given that Adel had learned of some others that Beald didn't much like either, that being Iri and his friends and family. He knew all of this for a fact since lots of those kind of people, both kinds after Iri visited, tried to invade the graveyard that his father took care of and the tall man had to chase them out.
Beald starred down at him for a long moment before giving a nod of his head, "Alright, good boy." He praised him, eager to instill in his son honesty as well as good manners among other things, not wanting him to be a rude little thing like the other kid he'd met recently. Given his age he was more eager to make sure that politeness was something that his son was well versed in, more so then the younger generation he thought to himself in a grouchy manner. Nothing worse then the spoiled teenagers that came to mess around in the graveyard, seeming to think that it was all to amusing to fool around in such a place... well almost nothing worse, the brat constantly bullying his kid was bad as well.
The tall, broad shouldered man paused in front of the door to the first store they were talking about, straightened out the headband that had started to slip so that it was a little crooked before he headed inside with Adelbert right on his heels, seeming to be all but underfoot when they weren't in the graveyard where he knew he was safe, "You can look around but stay within my line of sight." He said, then gave him a bit of money, "You can pick something out with this." He told him, deciding that since he'd been working so hard with the flower decorations for the graves that he deserved something for himself.

Skritch skritch skritch.. Those little sounds, of charcol against paper, along with the soft breathing of a young boy were the only sounds that were going on in the empty house. There was no one else nearby, for they had all left to visit another doctor's office across town, for a little conference. The boy, Iri, just didn't feel like leaving the house, not since the last encounter he had with the boy from the graveyard. The entire time since he had been there, he had been reviewing how he had acted, and the more he thought about it, the more depressed he became.
It was as if the person who was there wasn't him.. So many mood swings, and such aggression.. He had no idea where that even came from.. Perhaps it was desperation to finally have a friend his age.. He didn't know.. But since that time, he barely left his room, and all across the floor were drawings, not of the boy, he wanted to avoid thinking about him at all, but just his idea of what freedom was. There were many drawings of the sky, of open fields, of birds, of all sorts of things... He enjoyed his life of freedom.. But felts as if he didn't deserve it anymore.. In his hands right now, was a drawing of himself, in a corner. Why he drew this, he was not sure.
Suddenly, his last piece of charcoal snapped, and he let out a sad sigh.
"Guess... I gotta go.." he murmured to himself, standing up and slipping on his shoes, leaving black fingerprints everywhere. He pulled a few coins off of his dresser, slipping them into his pocket, and slowly made his way out of the house, locking the door behind him, and headed to the marketplace, going to buy more charcoal, as well as grab something to eat..
At the store, he knew the owner, and gave him a soft smile, letting it quickly fade when he wasn't looking, and quickly began to browse the shelves.

He couldn't say that he exactly knew what it was that he was looking for, something... something... it felt odd, to be picking out something for himself when he couldn't really think of anything off the top of his head that he wanted for himself. The first thing that came to mind to buy with the money that he was given was more flowers but the question was, would his Papa allow that? He knew that the man would know what he was getting them for. Was it really alright to use the money he'd gotten for weaving flower wreaths for the graves to get more flowers that he was going to weave together to make more wreaths? It seemed as though it would work if you asked him but the question was would his Papa think that? He couldn't really be certain.
"Mmm, but they are pretty." He mused quietly to himself, lifting a hand to brush the tips of his fingers against the delicate petals of the flowers. Would it be so strange to use his own money for such things? He was still musing to himself when he heard the sound of the bell over the door to the store that he was in, turning instantly toward it as though he were a little nervous about who might arrive. He so disliked the fact that he didn't know who out there was bad guys and who out there might be people that he could trust. Of course upon seeing who had come into the store Adelbert's heart started to pound like mad in his chest. No, no, not here and not now... he just wanted to enjoy his trip to the store and now the scary boy was here! The first thing that came to mind was fleeing to his Papa, he would do so, but first he had to move before he was noticed again.
Adelbert abandon the flowers he'd been looking at to move between some of the shelves, hoping to hide himself from view and that he could walk around in a wide circle around where Iri had been and to where his Papa was at the moment. If he were lucky he would be able to get to the giant of a man before Iri came over to bully him again. What it was about him that drew Iri's attention was beyond him but the more he thought on their last run in the more nervous he got over the idea that he might be pounced by him again...

There were so many different types of charcoals, Iri was overwhelmed! There were even some that had colors! He had brought enough coins to buy whatever one he wanted, but there were a few colors that stood out to him. Orange, of course, then there was black.. then there were the colors that.. that boy had, the colors of his feathers.. He couldn't help but grab a few of those colors as well, before going on to pay, then to go across the street to the little cafe to grab a treat.
Just as he turned the corner, to pay for the items, he bumped into someone.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention.." he spoke softly, before looking at the person, and giving a little gasp of surprise! It was him! But.. If he was here, that must mean that big old man was here too... Iri didn't want to be bothered with them! But.. he felt like a deer in headlights! The only way to the register was past him, so he couldn't just turn around.. He was frozen on spot.

Adelbert gave a soft 'omph' sound as someone, the very someone he had been trying his best to avoid, bumped into him. A squeak escaped from his lips and he took a couple scrambling steps back, one hand lifting up to cling to the front of his coat, looking as though he had no idea what he should do, what he should, if anything, and given his height and that of the shelves around them he couldn't even see where his Papa was which sent him into a bit of a panic.
"I... I... I just... I was just shopping! So you don't... don't need to... do anything, I am fine." He said, his words a rushed sort of scramble, as though he several thoughts were escaping from him at once and as such made little to any sense before he took a few more steps back, wanting to put distance between himself and Iri. No, no why was this happening? He'd thought that he would have time to get around the shelves and to where Papa had been and yet somehow the other boy was able to catch up to him? Had he been that slow with his sneaking? Then again he didn't really sneak that often so he couldn't say what fast sneaking was or if there was even a such thing as that.
He shook his head again, trying to get his thoughts into some sort of order, "Please, I just want to go to find my Papa." He said quickly, hoping that Iri would let him passed.

"I don't want to bother you for anything.." Iri tried to say as calmly as possible. The boy.. Was he that afraid of him...? Well, he did have a good reason to be, he supposed. But there wasn't any real want of confrontation, so the best thing to do is to let him go, right..? But.. That just didn't seem right..
"I-I know we don't get along well... B-but I just wanted to say I was sorry... I don't know what was wrong with me.. I think I just really wanted a friend.. But I guess I ruined any chance of that.. If you could forgive me, that would be enough. Though I wouldn't blame you at all if you didn't.. " He fidgeted in place, making sure he wasn't blocking the other boy's passage, or prevented him from escaping. He didnt' want him to think he was forcing him to stay.
"Um... Maybe you and I could get a snack or something together.. Oh, no, never mind!! You'll say no, I just know it! J-just forget I said anything!" He quickly studdered, before quickly walking around him to the counter. His dad was around! He just knew it! And he would never leave his dad's side for a snack! And his dad hated his guts! Oh what had he done?! He just wanted to pay and get out of here!

Adel watched as the boy went by him and he did what came naturally, he ran... not far, just far enough to be around a shelf from him, able to peek back around as Iri went over to the counter to pay for whatever it was that he was buying. Oh my but that had been startling, the last thing he'd expected was to run into him here. It was possible, of course, after all he was a person that lived in this town, he used these same stores, of course it was possible that he might be around. Still, it was a shocker for him even if it were something that were possible.
He wondered what he should do next. There was a part of him, a rather small part, that responded to the apology, wanting to believe him that he wanted to be his friend. Another part of him though reminded him that the boy was scary, that he'd tackled him to the ground, had tried to tear off his coat where anyone could see, he insulted him, his Papa, where they lived and what they did. He couldn't be a friend of someone that seemed to hate him, could he? So if he did hate him why would he want to be his friend? Why would be want to have him come out for a snack with him? None of it seemed to make any sense at all to the young, winged boy and all he could seem to do was stand there starring at Iri from where he was standing.
What would happen if, by some strange miracle, they were able to be friends? His Papa still didn't like Iri, didn't like Iri's parents, didn't like... well he was sure not to like that friendship either. He would hate to go do something that Papa didn't like but at the same time the idea of, perhaps, getting a friend... it was a nice thought, right? He gave a soft sound in his throat, looking and sounding so very confused by all of it. He should go find Papa he told himself, he should... but he didn't, taking a couple slow steps forward, to get a better look at Iri, as though trying to size him up now, as well as trying to size up the danger level he presented.

The feathers on his back bristled a bit, as the feeling of himself being watched hit him like a ton of bricks and quickly glanced behind him, blushing beet red, then turning back to the shop owner. Iri had been sure that the other boy was simply going to run back to his father's side, and he'd never see him again.. And yet there he was..
"Hehe, is that the boy Maira was talking about?" The old man behind the counter grinned, bagging up the packages of Charcoal, before handing it back to the boy.
"Shhush... Don't mention it.. His father hates me, and he scarred of me.." He muttered back, giving a glance about the counter, wondering if he could get Adel anything.. Well, there were a bunch of flowers... OOOh! And they even had tiger lilies!! They were Iri's absolute favorite flowers of all time! And.. When you liked someone, you gave them flowers, right? He placed an extra coin on the counter to pay for the flower, then went over to Adel, blushing, and gripping the flower firmly, but nervously at the same time..
"Um.. Here.. For you.. I um.. I noticed you liked flowers, so here.. For you.."

Adelbert gave a little squeak when Iri came back over to him, taking a half step back as though he were expecting the worst... then instead he was presented with a flower, "Ohh..." He lifted his hands up, hesitated, then took it from him and gave it a sniff, "Its so nice." He whispered, hugging the flower to his chest and looked a little confused by it. Why... why was Iri being so nice now? He had been so scary the other day when they'd met, last time he'd wanted nothing more then to run away form him, to hide behind his Papa, and never see him again... but now, now he was... being nice?
He shifted in place then starred down at the flower, "Its nice." He murmured, sounding quite surprised as he starred at the flower. He wondered at times if maybe there were two of Iri, maybe he had an evil twin? He was about to ask but decided that it might sound rude for him to do so. Instead he merely gave the other boy a little, shy sort of smile, "T-Thank you, Iri. The flower was very... very nice of you."

"You're welcome!" Just hearing the boy thank him made him feel a million times better than when he had first entered the building. How sweet Adel looked to him, adorable, with a sweet little smile! Iri's own cheeks flared up in a blush, and he gently nudged the ground with the toe of his foot, figeting and trying to get his words together.
"Well.. Um.. My offer still stands.. Though.. I guess I should get going.. Your dad really really doesn't like me.. So I'd rather stay out of his sight for now.." His fingers reached up to fiddle with the little parcel he had in his hands, the one that contained the charcoal. "I want to try again.. To be friends.. But. It's a little complicated.. Isn't it.."
A little sigh escaped his lips, but a smile tugged at the corner of his lips
"That is... If you'll let me.. "

Adelbert looked up at him for a long moment, looking uncertain about things even more now. The idea of going out with someone like him, someone his age, a possible friend, to play and get a snack... it really was a nice idea, an inviting one, but at the same time Iri was right in what he said. He looked around, wondering where it was that his Papa was at, he was in the store getting various supplies gathered and ordered for the month.
"Papa... he doesn't like you... I don't think he would let me go to play with you even if I wanted to, even if I asked." He murmured, looking at Iri, then away. He knew that it would be a losing battle and if he asked about it his Papa wouldn't be happy with him for wanting to play with someone that was like Iri. Even if he were a nice boy at all times he had a feeling that who his parents were, what they were, would still make his Papa upset. He knew that he didn't care of them after all... he looked around for a moment, hearing his Papa's voice as he spoke to one of the store workers, giving him a list of things that he wanted to be delivered, "I... think... maybe that I would like to spend more time with you, with this you."
He gave him a momentary glance, then looked away from him agan, his attention falling fully onto the flower he was given, the first outside gift he'd gotten from someone. It was nice, even enough to calm him a bit when it came to Iri.

Ouch.. Even if he wanted to..? Iri almost visibly winced, but knew full well he deserved such a reaction.. That being so, he listened to Adel, nodding. The old bat was such a close minded old fool.. And unless he could be more open to how the world was outside of his little alcove, he would never have any respect for him. It angered him even more that he was keeping Adel locked up like a.. a.. A caged bird! Birds should be free to fly!!
Biting his lip, he quickly dismissed that though, and focused his attention back on the current situation. He reached out slowly, and pressed his fingertips on Adel's hand, thinking for a moment.
"I really want to go out with you sometime.." He murmured, blushing, though doubting that Adel might have understood the accidental romance mentioned. "Maybe I could wear a disguise or something.. I'm sure he'd rather have you interact with a little girl than a boy.. And with just a little help from Maira, I would become unrecognizable! I-I'd even hide my wings if that meant I could come see you again.."

Adel gave the slightest jump when Iri reached out to touch his hand, tensing up... then relaxed again when it seemed that he wasn't really out to do anything. In fact he was being quite nice, wasn't he? It really did make him wonder about their last meeting that much more. Maybe it was the setting? The time of day? Something had made this boy act strangely...
The moment that he thought that maybe Iri were in a more calm and normal mood though the boy was talking about how he could disguise himself as a girl so that they could hang out more? The thought at him starring at Iri for a long moment. Well... he supposed that he did look a bit on the pretty side, didn't he? The idea that someone who could be mistaken for a girl had beaten him up and made him cry didn't exactly sit well with Adelbert, but then again neither did the idea that he was beat up and made to cry by anyone. The boy gave a little shake of his head, "No." He murmured, looking around for a moment, then back, "No... I am the one that has to... to go around in costumes, not you. You should find a friend that you can... can play with without having to think to hide." He murmured, he knew that it was for his own good but if Iri was allowed to run around with people thinking his wings were a decoration he should be allowed too.
Not to mention he'd feel a little uncomfortable hanging out with a boy dressed as a girl who was only doing it because his papa didn't like people like Iri and his parents. Wouldn't pretending to be a girl make it weirder? He didn't know for sure since he wasn't exactly knowledgeable about all this stuff but that was his guess at the matter, "I don't want to have a pretending to be a girl sort of friend... it wouldn't be nice to you."

"But in saying in that... It means so much more to have a friend who would be willing to do that... Wouldn't it?" It seemed like Adel had made up his mind.. Iri gave another shake of his head, and sighed.
"As much as I want to push it more.. It.. seems like you don't want to give anything a try..." Iri's words were bitter, but they sounded more sad than anything else. And he had thought that they were going to have fun and were getting along well.. But the chains that had Adel shackled were too much to break loose fun, and in thinking this, Iri hated his father even more..
"I'm sure your father will be done any second.. And he'll yell at me for being around you.. So.. I guess I'll see you around then.. "

Adelbert titled his head to the side, wings twitching a bit though he forced them to be still despite wanting their wanting to move. He shifted in place, then looked away, "Ahhh... I'm sorry." He murmured, he didn't seem as though he wanted to give anything a try? He felt bad about that, the idea of having a friend, one his age, and one liked him, it was a nice thought but he didn't think that he would be able to play with him when it was doubtful that his papa would ever want to deal on a friendly basis with Iri's family... it seemed that the on reason he wanted to be around them was on a purely professional manner.
"I'm sorry..." He murmured again, clutching the flower to his chest, then turned to hurry off to find his papa. The idea of buying new stuff was completely forgotten as he hurried back to his papa. He paused for a moment, looking over his shoulder at Iri once more, starring at him, then turned around and hurried off around a shelf and over to where the man was standing. He starred up at him for a long moment, then reached his hands up to tug on the man's sleeve with one hand, "Papa?"
The man looked down at Adelbert, starring at him for a long moment, seeing the agitated look on his face before he looked around for a moment to try to figure out what had gotten his son in such a mood, eyes landing on Iri and he couldn't help but to give a long, pained sigh, "That kid seems to be a stalker on top of everything else." He muttered, wrapping a strong arm around Adel and picked the lightweight child up off the floor and looked away from Iri, deciding not to give him a word since the boy seemed to enjoy the attention as much as he seemed to enjoy arguing with adults. Best not to give him a reason given Beald was having a nice enough day and didn't want to deal with him.
Adelbert watched his papa as the man looked at Iri then away and back to talking about the supplies he'd bought and the deliver date. He gave a bit of a smile as he turned to Iri and gave him a bit of a wave. He wasn't sure what kept his papa from snapping at Iri but it made Adelbert quite happy.
