The first real snowstorm had hit the school last night, leaving the grounds covered in a foot of snow. White flakes were still falling down, but with far less intensity. Winter had started with a bang, exactly the way Famine liked it. When he had seen the snow, he had all but squealed with delight as he pulled on his clothes and shoes in a hurry. Not much more than five minutes later, a streak of red and gold ran out of the front doors of the school and out into the flurries.

He spun around a few times, looking up at the sky and feeling snowflakes landing on his cheeks before melting away. He had always loved the snow. Especially when there were freak winter storms like this one. Perfect hot chocolate weather, and he was never one to pass up an excuse to have hot chocolate. A few seconds later, and he tripped himself up, landing face first in the snow. It didn't phase him. Nothing even did. Instead, he turned over onto his back, a grin on his face as he looked up at the sky.

Moira was silent, enjoying the crunch of the snow under her boots. She'd been up since first light, working on homework she'd left until nearly the last moment. Snow was still drifting slowly down from the slate sky. She stilled and closed her eyes, inhaling deeply. Fresh snow was one of her favorite smells.

WHUMP.

Moira's eyes shot open at the sound. Someone was lying face down in the snow. She moved forward, concerned, until the body rolled itself over. It was Famine, and despite having his face coated in snow, he seemed to be in fine shape.

A mischievous thought popped into her head then, and she smirked. She reached her gold mittens down to the snow and cupped a large portion. Packing it together she raised her arm and sent the ball shooting neatly through the air. It landed directly on Famine's chest with a quiet puff sound.

Angelica hated winters at Hogwarts. The Slytherin common room was too drafty and cold to ever be completely comfortable in, and the moisture in the air kept the fires from burning as warmly as they could. This put her in a terrible mood during the whole day, from morning until night. And on this particular morning, she had woken up shivering. She was still shivering as she dressed, glad for once to actually cover her body. She pulled on a pair of tight-fitting jeans and a green sweater. She left her robes hanging on the corner of her bed and grabbed her winter coat instead, just in case she needed it, and exited the girl's dormitory. The common room was mostly empty, a few students here and there reading or scribbling on parchment. She ignored them and left the common room, moving upstairs out of the dungeon as quickly as possible. The entrance hall was somewhat warmer, but not much. People must have left the castle and in doing so, opened the large oak doors which let the cold in. Curious as to who might be outside, Angelica strode to the doors and peeked out. It was just about as cold outside as it was in her common room. Wonderful.

She stepped outside and found the grounds a pristine, bright white. She shielded her eyes and found two figures on the grounds quickly. She was too far away from them to see any house colors, so she simply watched them from the front steps. One fell into the snow for seemingly no reason, and the other pelted whoever it was with a snowball. Well, that was nice.

She took a few tentative steps into the snow, glad she had pulled on a pair of boots, and made her way carefully towards the still-standing figure. As she drew closer, she saw it was Moira. Damn, she said to herself. She thought briefly of their last interaction, at the party in the Shrieking Shack that she would rather forget, especially after what had happened with that Hufflepuff. Well, it was too late to turn back now. Moira had probably seen her. She kept making her way through the knee-height snow, almost falling on her face several times.

"Hello, Moira," she said. She wouldn't bring up the party if the Gryffindor wouldn't. "Crap day, isn't it?"

"I've been hit! I've been hit! Enemy attack! Enemy attack!" He scrambled up onto his feet, trying to collect snow to pack into a snowball and pick himself up at the same time. It worked better in theory. Once up with a snowball packed in his bare hand, he looked around for who had thrown the last one, resembling an owl as he did. When he finally managed to spot Moira(who'd been in front of him the entire time, funny how he missed her), he prepared to throw the snowball out her. "You threw first shot, this means war!" And with that reasoning, he wouldn't feel bad about hitting her. He let loose the ball of snow just as another girl showed up, standing almost right in front of his target. Instead of hitting Moira, like he had planned on it doing, it instead exploded on impact at the base of the new girls neck. His eyes widened for a fraction of a second, and then his grin was back. "Sorry, that's what happens when you interfere!" he called out happily, already leaning over in order to gather up a new snowball.

Moira bent at the waist, laughing at Famine's reaction. It must have been the bending that made him unable to find her. He scanned the surrounding area several times before making eye contact. Still laughing, Moira shuffled back a few paces as Famine wound up.

It was then that she saw Angelica stumbling through the snow beside her. There was barely enough time to get out "Angelica wai-" before Famine's pitch landed squarely on her neck.

Moira's eyes widened. Oh bullocks, she'll be pissed. Her companion was already bent towards the snow, preparing another arsenal. In a fluid movement she stuck her right arm behind her, motioning Angelica behind her and pulled her wand with the other arm. Murmuring, she flicked her wand and created a rather haphazard pile of snow between them and Famine.

Seamus shook his head vigorously. He had just stepped out of the castle when a low hanging branch outside the archway dripped icy water directly onto his head. Brilliant. He didn't mind the snow mostly. As long as it kept its icy drippings off his hair.

"-war!" A shout floated through the crisp air and Seamus turned in its direction, in time to watch a beautifully lobbed snow ball pelt Angelica in the neck. A surprised laugh escaped him as he heard the boy's next remark. He'll be lucky to get out alive.

Angelica was quickly hidden behind a pile of snow, and before he knew it, Seamus had scooped snow from the ground in front of him, molding it quickly in his unprotected hands. It was a tempting thought to rescue Angelica from her snow prison but even more tempting to leave her there. Taking aim at the, as of yet, unprotected boy Seamus threw the snow ball calling "Wotcher!" as it went

Angelica had just glanced over at Moira, expecting a reply and silently judging the girl for being rude enough not to give her one, when she suddenly shouted out to her. She heard the first half of what likely would have been a warning before she was hit by a snowball. On the neck. Someone had thrown a snowball at her neck. Her eyes narrowed as she wiped away the slush that was beginning to melt and drop down into her sweater. She glared briefly at Moira, even though the redhead had done nothing but try to warn her about the snowball, but then turned her sights to the boy who had hit her with the frigid projectile. "I hardly think taking a walk on the grounds is interfering," she said and started to reach for her wand, but before she could get properly livid, he had crouched down to make more snowballs. Moira motioned for Angelica to get behind her quickly, which she did. Angelica wasn't above using a human shield. However, the Gryffindor flicked her wand and created something of a shield between the two girls and the boy. Angelica was glad that she likely wouldn't be hit with another snowball any time soon, but she only nodded to Moira to convey her thanks.

Angelica looked down at the ground covered in snow and briefly entertained the notion of grabbing a handful of snow to throw back at the boy, but wrinkled her nose at the thought of her hands cold and clammy. She would rather jinx him and be done with it, but she had a feeling that she wouldn't be let off the hook for jinxing someone in the middle of a snowball fight. A loud call of "Wotcher!" attracted Angelica's attention, and she looked to her left to see Seamus just finish tossing a snowball towards the boy. While normally the sight of Seamus would have brightened her mood considerably, at present she was just feeling irritated at being stuck behind a snow wall for fear of being pelted with more snowballs, being stuck there with Moira, and having a bright pink spot on her neck where she had been struck, not to mention the cold water that had dripped down into her sweater, soaking the material and making her shiver even more than the cold air would have. "Do me a favor and hit him in the face, Moira, will you?" she said bitterly.

Famine blinked a few times in quick succession, dropping the snowball that was in his hand and noticeably confused that there was now a fort between him and his targets. When it did occur to him that there had been magic involved, he was a little annoyed that he hadn't thought to bring his own wand out with him. "Hey! That's cheating!" he laughed, but felt no ill will towards his fellow Gryffindor. It was rather clever of her to think to do so. Remaining peacefully oblivious to the fact that the girl he had hit in the neck had went for her wand, he leaned back down in order to gather up another snowball. Right as he stood back up, another snowball had hit him in the side of the head. He responded accordingly, with another round of I've been hit! and gracelessly chucking the snowball in the direction he believed his assailant to be.

Moira began patting the snow in places, trying to strengthen their shield. She was hoping that if she looked busy, Angelica wouldn't want to talk about the party. She had seen too much for her own good as it was.

Famine called out to them, accusing her of cheating. Moira laughed. "It's only 'cheating' because I thought of it first!" However, she clearly had to level the playing field. With a flick of her wand, a smaller, but still decently sized pile of snow lumped itself in front of the boy. "No excuses now, when I've thoroughly whipped you!" Bragging rights in the common room would certainly be dampened with the call of 'cheater'.

Angelica spoke sourly to Moira then.
'Do me a favor and hit him in the face, Moira, will you?" She grinned at the Slytherin girl but Angelica turned suddenly and Moira followed her gaze to Seamus, mid throw. The ball connected solidly with the side of Famine's head. With a wry smile she spoke to the girl beside her."Someone's gone and beat me to it, I guess."

Devi, although never fond of the cold or winter in general, had left the warm confines of the castle in hopes that it would keep her brother from following her about. At only thirteen, he already considered himself a 'ladies man' and was constantly asking her to 'hook him up with one of her foxy single friends'. When he had started, she had been under the belief that he was joking and was very quickly proven wrong. So she had made her escape and was now stuck outside in clothes too thin to offer up much protection from the cold, and with very little idea of what to do.

It hadn't taken her long to find the group of people throwing snow at each other, and being careful to avoid any snowballs, made her way towards the only person who stood apart from the others. "'Ello, Seamus. Nice day is - Oh look, Angelica." Her attention was quickly diverted, and before she was entirely conscious of her actions, she was scooping snow into a snowball and chucking it at Angelica with as much force as she had. It was almost needless to say that she was still a bit irked at the Slytherin girl.

"So it seems," Angelica said, watching Famine as he shouted and paraded around about how he'd been hit. "All the same to me, really." Angelica considered her surroundings for a moment and, surprising even herself, she crouched down and began to form small spheres of snow, making a pile of them for Moira to throw. Angelica wouldn't participate in this snowball fight, but she could assist someone who was.

So caught up in her snowball crafting, she didn't notice another student walk up to Seamus, who was not too far away, and greet him. Nor did she notice as this student crouched down and made her own snowball. Angelica stood, tucking her hair behind her ear, when suddenly a cold wetness had hit the side of her head with enough force to almost knock her off-balance. Angelica had let out a small oh! of surprise when she was hit, and she turned right and left to find her attacker. She peered out from behind the wall of snow for Famine, but it was clear that he hadn't been the one to hit her this time. She looked over at Seamus again, who was smirking, and Angelica saw that he was no longer alone. Devi was beside him, and it was quite clear that she had been the one to throw the snowball at Angelica. Angelica inhaled sharply through her nose and raised her hand to wipe the remaining snow away from her ear and out of her hair. She moved with slow, precise movements. "Afternoon, Devi," she said, coldly. "So nice to see you." Quickly as she could, she had reached into her pocket for her wand and just as quickly, she had flung a spell at Devi - a Stinging Hex, cast nonverbally. A bright white light shone for a moment as Angelica lowered her wand, her eyes narrowed, her lips pursed. She didn't care if a full-on duel broke out between the pair of them; Angelica would show Devi what happened when someone crossed her.

Seamus was momentarily distracted by the movement beside him. It was Devi, and he smiled at her greeting. Her attention was immediately captured by Angelica however, so Seamus did not return the greeting. As his eyes returned to the battlefield he was struck in the chest. Ouff.

Seamus eyed the damage to his chest. A wet splotch stretched across the buttons on his grey pea coat. Without thinking, he pulled his wand and shot a jinx across the field, knocking Famine's fort onto the boy. He let out a short battle cry before he could stop himself. This was the most fun he'd had in at least twenty minutes. "Did you see that-" Seamus' voice cut out as Devi's face began to swell. "Bloody hell, your face."

Devi let out a triumphant cheer when the snowball hit Angelica in the side of the head. She usually wasn't able to hit the broad side of a barn, so this was a pleasant surprise. Then the initial worry that she might be hurt set in, and she watched as the Slytherin looked around for the snowball thrower before finally realizing Devi had thrown it. The Hufflepuff took a step back, noticeably nervous as Angelica began to advance. She didn't like the way Angelica was moving, and she didn't like it much better at the cold tone that the Slytherin took. Subconsciously, she reached towards her back pocket for her wand, but apparently not quick enough.

The Hufflepuff screamed the moment the spell hit her square in the face, taking a step back to steady herself. "Ciucciacazzi!" Biting down on the inside of her cheek in an effort to keep herself from crying because of the pain, she pulled her wand, yelling out the first spell she could think of. "Levicorpus!" She wasn't sure if the spell hex hit or not, and she hid her face in the crook of her arm, only just hearing Seamus commenting on the damage. "Io non me ne frega niente." It hardly occurred to her that the others wouldn't be able to understand a word she was saying, let alone the fact she was no longer speaking English. "Puttana!" She continued to curse Angelica under her breathe, managing not to speak a single word of English while doing so.

Having returned to the task of solidifying their fort, Moira wasn't aware of the snowball until it had connected with the Slytherin girl. Her green eyes widened as she took in the scene. Obviously that side of the wall needs work. She knew better than to voice the thought, Angelica looked like she was on the war path. In a flash the other girl had begun creeping up to Devi, whom Moira could only assume was the culprit.

Maybe it was the wind, or perhaps she never said anything at all, but Moira didn't know what happened before there was a bright light emitting from Angelica's wand. Then Devi screamed. Moira abandoned her post and pulled her wand, running across the snow towards the trio. "Expelliarmus!" she pointed her wand into the group, hoping to disarm anyone.

Before she knew what was happening, Angelica had been lifted into the air by invisible hands by her right ankle. She hung upside down, a decent ways above the snowy ground, and dropped her wand in her surprise. Her first thought was to be glad that she didn't have her school uniform on--though she normally wanted to show off her legs, she didn't want everyone to see her undergarments.

Again.

Her second thought was how on earth she would get down.

Her third thought was to strangle Devi.

It was, somehow, colder, these few yards above the ground. A cold breeze blew that, while not bothersome on the ground, stung Angelica's eyes and whipped her hair around her head. She had no way to release herself from this spell and no way to protect herself if Devi chose to cast another spell at her. She heard Moira shout the disarming spell, but she had missed at who in her upside-down-ness. After a few moments of disorientation, Angelica's eyes found Devi, her arm covering her face. She saw Moira running toward the others, her bright red hair a streak behind her. Angelica would have crossed her arms, but she would have looked even more ridiculous than she already did.

"Well, you can let me down any time!" she shouted over to the Hufflepuff and Gyffindor, trying to act as though hovering upside-down in midair was a normal occurence, and hoping one of them would release her.
