Almost a quarter mile below the dozing, blue-skinned beauty, a young pilot clung to the rock for dear life. Carnivorous fish waited for him to plunge to his death in the water below, even though his clothes had been dry for nearly an hour now. Well... dry for the most part. Sweat drenched his back and chest, causing the chill wind to shake his already cold frame.
"And this is what I get for making friends with pirates," he muttered, wishing that for once he could keep a ship for longer than three months. First a recall, then the malfunction, now a hijacking? What were the chances? He stopped himself. No, he didn't want the answer to that question. Hoisting himself another arm's length upward, the man continued his ascent, hoping to reach the top before his strength gave out.

As bright eyes looked for her sister, Ari's mind was racing. Was everything alright? Did anything happen to Karla? Her twin had disappeared while she wasn't paying attention. Being separated for too long was not in their best interests at the moment. The time for them to leave was fast approaching. Despite the feeling that Karla was in her usual spot, Ari needed to be sure that she was safe. Finally she found her sister, there under the same tall tree as always. A great sigh of relief came over the female as she made her way over. Without a word Ari sat next to Karla, but she did offer a smile. The shade the tree provided felt nice against her bluish-gray skin.
Karla glanced at her twin and chuckled.
"Sorry... I disappeared again, didn't I?" I've been a regular space-case recently. I wonder if it has anything to do with... Her gaze drifted down to her stomach and she sighed, shifting her tail a little to make herself more comfortable. She really needed to stop thinking about it so much if she was going to continue hiding it.
"Ari? Do you think we'll ever be able to just stay in one place for a bit? I mean, running is hard work... I wonder if they'll ever give up."
Lionel pulled himself up a little more, searching for a toe-hold. He was almost at the top now, his wild red mane blowing this way and that in the wind. He was rather equine in appearance, though still humanoid. With a long face and dark, handsome eyes, Lionel looked a bit more like a donkey than anything else, his skin an odd shade of dark grey. Ruddy red hair grew in a two-inch wide strip from the crest of his skull all the way down to his lower back, long and tangled like a horse's mane. He sported an equine tail as well, the same color as his hair. His feet, each baring two thick, hard toes scrabbled at the rock, desperate for a purchase. At last, he hauled himself over the cliff's edge, panting and looking not unlike a half-drowned seagull. He laid still for a few minutes, breathing heavily and trying to regain some sense of direction.

Ari smiled softly at Karla, "As long as I can find you again, you can run off as much as you want" She looked away and down as a sigh came to her. She didn't want to leave. Thus far this was her favorite planet. She could see herself and her sister living and being happy together. "Maybe one day they'll stop. Then we'll be able to live in peace. If all else fails, we will find a place where they will never find us again." Lifting her gaze Ari looked at her twin, lately Karla had been looking slightly pale. Nothing much to worry about, maybe her sister just wasn't sleeping well. For the time being, Ari decided to remain quiet and keep her concerns hidden. Out of the corner of her eye she caught something climb up the cliff. Turning to look at her sister she asked, "What, or rather who, is that?" before turning her head back to what she had seen.
About two miles away from the ocean a young male was wandering. For months now he had been living the life of a nomad, no home and no family. All he needed was a new place to make a new start. Maybe then his life could return to how it used to be. Damon's golden eyes showed that his week with no sleep was starting to take its toll. The sun beating down on crimson skin did nothing but make his fatigue increase. All he needed was some shade, then he would take a small nap before continuing.

Karla lifted her head to look at the figure that was prone on the grass, some yards distant at the cliff's edge. Her wavy dark hair fell into her face as she inspected the stranger. After a moment's hesitation, she pushed herself to her feet.
"I don't know... let's go see." Her earlier thoughts of a home and settling down were forgotten, though her mental connection to the growing child within her never actually left. On soft feet she approached, the specially designed boots protecting her webbed feet from the tough grass and rock.
"Excuse me... are you alright?"
Lionel heard a female voice. She spoke Galactic Standard, but with a faint accent. After his long, silly ears had finished twitching, he let out a faint moan.
"I just climbed out of water infested with meat-eating fish and up a mile-high cliff face of sheer, treacherous rock." Rolling over, he cast an exhausted eye on the pair of them, noting the similarities in appearance. In fact, they were almost identical.
Twins. Figures.
"Yeah, I'm fine... don't worry about me. I'll just bake here in the sun and wait for someone to steal my next ship too!" He let himself relax, his aching muscles going somewhat limp. "I hurt."

Ari got up after her sister and followed closely behind her. More and more she was finding herself growing wary of strangers. Strangers were starting to symbolize danger. However this particular one looked badly injured and beaten down. Perhaps he could be safe. He seemed harmless enough. That is until he opened his mouth to speak. "Hey, watch the voice please. Nobody but me is allowed to talk to my sister like that, and even then I don't." She crossed her arms in front of her chest as her bright eyes lowered into a glare, "If you want to lay there and die, be my guest, we can just go about our business without a second thought."
A groan escaped Damon as he tried to look for a shady area. There had to be somewhere for him to try and sleep. Perhaps maybe even where he could find food. Being a nomad was not an easy task. Had he thought of what the life choice he had picked entailed he might of reconsidered. However there was no turning back now. Damon had chose to leave, he couldn't return. Not after what had happened.

Lionel cracked an eye open and looked at her, his deep brown eyes watery with pain and exhaustion.
"Well, heartless, aren't you?" After a moment, he closed his eyes again, feeling far too tired to fight right now.
"I'm sorry," he continued in a softer, much more sincere tone. "I'm just a little... overworked right now. It was a long climb and I think I'm missing part of my left ear." He was battered and bruised, with many little teeth-marks on his arms and legs under the heavy fabric of his clothes, and sure enough, there was a chunk missing from the inside edge of his left ear. It was caked in dark, dried-up blood and looked painful.
"What are you two doing out here anyway? Aren't we a ways from town?"
Karla recoiled, the question setting off danger signals in her head. People who asked too many questions were the same people who had too many answers.
"You don't need to know that," she told him coldly. When he flinched, she felt guilt surge. He was just a beat-up traveler, probably taken advantage of recently and hurting all over, outside and inside. After a moment, she sighed.
"Come on, Ari... let's help him out. Do we still have that med kit in my bag?" She bent down and hooked her arms under his shoulders and knees, finding him to be fairly light for how big he was. She carried him back to the tree she liked, noting that he didn't struggle at all.

Once the apology came, which was what she wanted from him, Ari's eyes softened. She wasn't heartless like he thought, she just was protective of her sister. As she took in the stranger's condition she sighed. He looked bad, really bad. The state he was in caused her to take pity on him. Looking over at Karla, she followed her twin as she carried him. For now she had no intentions of protesting helping him.
Was the med kit with Karla? It took Ari a moment to think and find her answer, "I believe it's still there." Walking ahead she found her sister's bag and picked it up before kneeling on the ground. "Set him down here."
Damon's spirits lifted slightly once he found a tree. It looked like it had a good amount of shade to sleep under. It took all the strength he had to carry himself over to the tree. He collapsed once his feet hit the shade. His golden eyes opened as he looked where he was. He heard of a cliff not too far from where he was, maybe a good place to look at once he was done resting. Brushing his long golden locks off of his neck, and tucking his reptilian-like tail under him Damon tried to find sleep.

Karla set the stranger down obediently and together, she and her sister started to work on tending his hurts. For the most part, she ignored his questions, telling him to sleep instead. She did end up divulging their names however.
"So, what can I call the two angels that rescued me?" He really was trying to be polite. Karla sighed.
"My name is Karlalarina. My sister is Arialarona." In their own language, the names literally meant 'first song' and 'second song.' Though they were twins, they had been born almost five hours apart. Karla had never really liked being the 'elder' of the two of them, but it was a necessity. She needed to protect her sister. Lionel blinked at them and struggled with their names for a minute. After a groan of dismay, he closed his eyes.
"Is there anything simpler that I can call you?" Lionel was clearly putting in effort. Karla chuckled.
"You can call me Karla." Lionel turned his attention on Ari and was about to ask her the same thing when suddenly his ear began to twitch madly. The strength that rose in him was the energy of fear and he hoisted himself onto his elbows, despite the protests of his tired arms.
"There is a demon nearby," he hissed, a white ring of panic around his dark eyes. Lionel actually had seven senses, (1- hearing , 2- smell, 3- sight, 4- touch, 5- taste, 6- jor'i or "wind-sense", and the inexplicable 7- the ability to sense and fear any reptiles with a fifty-yard radius) an he knew for a fact that something dangerous and scary was close at hand.

Ari stayed silent as the stranger tried to speak. She made sure to keep a straight face as she worked, keeping her annoyance to herself. The only sign of emotion she gave was when she rolled her eyes when the stranger called them angels. Flattery never went very far with her. As Karla told him their names sighed. Honestly, how much harm could giving away their names bring. She was about to tell him that her full name was not hard to pronounce when she saw the panic enter his eyes. "What are you talking about? There are no demons on this planet" Pushing his shoulder the female tried to make him lie down once again. "Now lay back down before you open your wounds. If that happens I can promise we won't be patching you up." Ari didn't mean to sound so harsh, but their supplies were limited, and she didn't feel like sneaking around to get more.
Unaware of the group that had gathered near the cliff, Damon tossed and turned in the shade. His mind was too active to allow him the gift of sleep. "How is it possible to be too tired to sleep?" he muttered to himself. At least he was able to rest his feet. Before he had laid all the way down he had taken his shoes off, allowing his oddly shaped feet to breathe. His feet were as reptilian as his tail, with long claws at the end of each toe. Long ago he had started filing the point of the claws down to blunt points. Sharp talons had led to many ruined things along the years.

Karla wasn't watching their "guest." Instead, she scanned the area around them. Cliff, sky, plains, sky, ocean, sky... and the small copse of trees that they had taken shelter under. As Lionel insisted that there was something there, he obediently laid down again, his breathing fast and shallow. Karla could smell his fear.
"I'll go see if our friend is delusional, or if there's something there." Waving at her sister to stay, Karla padded off into the sparse trees, her thick, powerful fluke bobbing to and fro behind her.
Lionel snorted, his lips fluttering with the heavy breath to effectively make him sound like a small horse.
"There is one here... I can sense him." The man's nostrils flared and he grunted, lying still under the girl's gentle hands. That smell... dry and dusty. Like the desert. But... Ari's scent was closer. Out of a desire to calm his own heart rate, Lionel focused on the girl's smell. She smelled like... like the ocean. Salty and tangy... faintly of seaweed. He began to calm down and Lionel opened his eyes, the panic receding quickly.
"I apologize... it was..." he hesitated, his cheeks flushing embarrassedly, "instinctive."

Ari looked over as Karla got up and sighed as she left to investigate. "I think he's delusional" she muttered under her breath. Until she was sure Lional was not going to move she kept her hand on his shoulder, though her gaze was off in the direction her sister had left. As he began to calm down Ari removed her hand and placed it on the ground next to her. Her bright eyes did wander to his when he broke the silence between them. A gentle, reassuring smile came to her face"You don't have to apologize." Allowing herself to relax she turned to face the male, "Alright since you know mine and my sister's names. It's only fair I learn yours. I can always make one up if you don't want to tell me."
Damon opened his eyes as he turned over once again. Sleeping on the ground was truly not as comfortable as a bed. After a while he gave up and decided to just go toward the ocean and look. Putting on his shoes once again he stood up. This place...it was more peaceful than where he had come from. He could get used to staying here. Brushing his hair off of his shoulders he started off in the direction of the ocean.

Karla spotted something moving through the trees and felt her heart skip a beat. She hadn't expected anything to actually be there. Dropping into a crouch, she winced as the pressure increased in her belly ever so slightly. Her child did not appreciate the position, though he was as of yet, too small to protest properly.
Who in the world would be way out here... of their own free will? Creeping closer, Karla tried to keep her body low. Her tail continually rustled the brush around her, though, and her stealth required some major refinements.
Lionel smiled slightly, still concentrating on her scent.
"My name is Jahlal DeLion El Carabi. My friends call me Lionel." He could feel the demon getting closer. Something inside him wanted to kick down a door with guns blazing, chop the monster's head off with an ax and leave its body to dry in the sun, toss it over the cliffside into the ocean for the bloody fishes to eat. In response, knowing that he needed to remain calm, Lionel reached upward, pulling Ari a little closer.
"Is there anything... wrong, with your sister?" he asked softly, wanting to hide his inner panic as thoroughly as he could. The texture of Ari's skin under his fingers (well, one of his fingers- the others were on her shirt) was leathery but soft, like sharkskin. He sort of liked it.
Ayame_Oshiro
Under any normal circumstance, Ari would have pulled her away and punched anyone who tried to do what Lionel had done. She didn't like people touching her. Yet this time she found herself making an exception and allowed him to pull her closer. In an attempt to justify her actions she kept repeating to herself that she was appeasing an injured person. Shaking her thoughts from her head she flashed Lionel an impish smile, masking her unease, "You had to tell me your name? I was starting to think of some really good ones to give you."
At the mention of Karla, Ari looked over in the direction her twin had gone before turning back to the male. What made him think something was wrong with Karla? Last time she checked her sister was in perfect health, maybe a little fatigued..."No, there's not. Why do you ask?"
For the most part Damon was in his own world as he walked. Then he heard rustling. The first time he ignored it, but it happened once more. It would be too much coincidence for there to be someone here at the same time he was, going in the same direction as well. Plus if there was someone, why would they be in the brush? Turning toward the sounds he sighed, "Who's there?"
Concentrating his eyesight, Damon say something, someone there. By the looks of it someone trying to hide. Were others really that terrified of his race? "I'm not going to hurt you if that helps"

Lionel watched her carefully. She was suspicious, but hiding it very well. Releasing her (lest the danger of retribution grow beyond his comfort level) the equine male sank back onto the ground, feeling exhausted and less than comfortable with the proximity of the 'demon.'
"So her skin is always that color?" he questioned curiously. This was a subject that could distract him for a while. "She seemed a little tired to me, I was just wondering if perhaps she was ill..."
Karla froze when Damon spoke. He had a familiar accent, and she realized that his race must be from the same system (though definitely not the same planet) as she and her sister. After a slight hesitation, she straightened, stepping into a pool of sunlight in order to lay the man's suspicions at ease.
"I'm here," she answered bluntly, eyeing him up and down. Ah... a Darivian. That made sense. They were often rejected by other races, though Darivians and Fai'la had been allies for generations. The Faiana lifted her hands, exposing the webbing between her fingers in a sign of trust.
"Had I known what you were, I would not have been so cautious." Karla's tail swung to and fro as she studied him. In her excitement, she didn't notice that the dirt she had carefully rubbed into her skin had been washed off with the moisture from the bushes. Faint stripes could be seen under the general pale blue of her skin, baring silent testimony to the child she bore. They had only started to show recently, and would get darker and more pronounced as time went on. Darn biological warnings and visible signs...
((And in case that was a little confusing...
Darivian = singular
Darivians = plural
Darive = the race
Faiana = singular (female)
Faiand = singular (male)
Fai'la = plural
Fai = the race
Does all of that make sense to you, or do I need to explain it to myself AND you? sweatdrop Inventing languages and grammatical laws is not my strong point.))

Ari didn't answer right away. So Lionel had noticed Karla was pale as well? She started tracing her memory, trying to think of when her sister had started to look different. It couldn't have been very long. Her sister has just told her it was because she was tired, and Ari believed her without a second thought. Karla wouldn't keep secrets from her would she?. They usually told each other when they were unwell.
The confusion on Ari's face stayed even when she looked back to the male "It only started recently. She keeps telling me it's because she's not sleeping much. And until she tells me otherwise I have no choice but to believe her"
Damon stepped closer when the female left her hiding spot. She was a Faiana. He had seen of few Fai'la before on his home planet, although he had never met one until now. What was she doing so far out of their system? Last he heard the Fai'la were not the kind to stray far their planet, let alone leave the entire system. This was a curious situation indeed. Just as she was studying him, he looked her over, his eyes catching sight of faint lines along her skin. He knew that the stripes meant something important, but couldn't remember exactly what.
Realizing he had been staring Damon shook his head slightly before giving an elaborate bow (the traditional greeting of the Darive). Even though he had left behind his home, the etiquette that had been pounded into his mind had become habit. He greeted practically every stranger in this fashion. "Forgive my rudeness Miss. I am Daquin Monet, though most call me Damon."

Lionel nodded slowly, his interest beginning to fade.
"I suppose that would make sense. Has she been staying up late or waking early?" He had no way to know that Karla had actually been sleeping a little more than normal. No way to know that she had been forcing herself to rise earlier than her body wished and sleep earlier than she wanted to as a consequence. No way to know that she was exhausting herself. Lionel studied Ari for a moment, finding his attention shifting to her.
"You're worried about her, aren't you?" he asked softly, concern clouding his dark eyes. He knew he shouldn't care like this... it was dangerous. Everything he cared about suffered. But he couldn't help it. She looked scared and uncertain.
Karla returned the bow, flourishing with her tail. If she had been the one to initiate the greet, she would have made a gesture with her exposed hand. It was custom to follow the lead of whomever spoke first. Silly traditions.
"My name is Karlalarina, but you may call me Karla." Karla smiled slightly, feeling her fatigue creep up on her again. She hadn't had time for a nap earlier- Ari had caught up too fast. With a shake of her head, she tried to reassemble her thoughts.
"What are you doing so far from home?" She wanted to get back to her sister, but this person was interesting, and with her energy level this low, she wasn't sure it was safe. Ari might notice something. And anyway, if she stayed long enough to get her second wind, then there was a chance that she could learn more about Damon. Casually, trying not to draw attention to her exhaustion, Karla leaned against a tree, folding her arms over her stomach.
Ayame_Oshiro
Ari could see Lionel's interest leaving, she knew he probably wasn't truly concerned with her sister. After all they had just met. Because of this she didn't answer his first few questions. But they did make her start thinking. Karla wasn't working any more than normal. Last she knew her twin wasn't staying up late....but there were times when she got up in the middle of the night. No. It was simply a coincidence. There was nothing wrong with Karla, Ari had to have faith in her sister and the bond they shared.
"Of course I'm worried, she's more than my sister. She's my twin, my best friend. Do you know how much it hurts to even consider that she's keeping something from me?" She looked away from Lionel, not liking the concerned look in his eyes. Was he really concerned or was it pity?
Damon smiled as he saw the female return his gesture. So she was one for traditions as well? His gold eyes didn't miss much, he saw how pale Karla looked, as well as the droopiness of her eyes. She had to of been tired. He looked away slightly when she asked why he had left home. Boy was that a complicated story. Not wanting to lie to her he stretched the truth slightly, "I decided to leave and see where my feet take me...well my feet and a few ships" He raised an eyebrow slightly as she rested against the tree. She was hiding something, but if she didn't want to talk about it, so be it.
"Well what about you Karla. Why are you so far out here?"

Lionel noted her distrust and sighed. He was losing her and he knew it. Oh well... it's not like he'd had time to develop an emotional attachment or anything. As his attention remained focused on her (by force of will, mainly) his concern only grew. It sucked, having a soft heart. He withdrew slightly, making sure he wasn't touching her any more.
"I apologize for my insensitivity. I was unaware of how close you were." He was still polite, but his tone had become stiff. Ignoring how tired and achy he felt, Lionel began to lever himself to his feet.
"I will leave now, before I inconvenience you any further," he grunted, finally managing to get his knees up under his body. He paused there for a moment, catching his breath.
Karla tensed a little. Again with the questions. This time, she didn't want to risk being rude, and walking away wasn't an option. Telling their story would be paramount to painting a bulls' eye on her chest and standing in a shooting range.
"I would... rather not talk about that... at this point in time," Karla said softly, choosing her words very carefully in an attempt to avoid offending the man. She found him interesting, but that didn't mean he wasn't a threat. The Faiana's tail began to quiver a little bit, showing that she was over-exerting herself. Karla began to think that her second wind would be longer in coming than she had first hoped.
((What would be your opinion of shifting this RP to the One On One forum in Nomads?))
Ayame_Oshiro
Ari swallowed hard, her guilt rising. She could see that she had said something wrong. As Lionel started to get up she got up and placed her hands on his shoulders in a pitiful attempt at keeping him from going. "No, don't. You're still too weak to get up. Please, lay back down" Even though she questioned his motives, she still had a heart. She couldn't let him leave while he was still hurt. "I'm sorry for what I said. I get a little short tempered when I'm worried. I know that is a bad excuse, but I really am sorry." The faiana's long dark locks fell over her shoulder as her eyes met his, "Please"
Damon merely nodded his head as he heard Karla's non-response to his question. It appeared the Faiana had secrets just as he had. Though, didn't everyone have a secret of their own. The Darivian knew better than to pry, prying led to complications. The twitching tail caught his attention, he knew enough about her kind to know that much was not a very good sign, "Karla...are you alright?" He stepped toward her his genuine concern showing in his body language. Though he normally wouldn't get too involved with strangers, something about this female was different. Something told him to see if he could help.
