[2009 Metaplot Group 3] Players: RAZORQUIL NPC: Techie L Reqs: This counts as playdate. Setting: With B taking care of the kids for the day, L finally has some free time on her hands, when she runs into one of her former students. (Before the mentor system was in place L taught all the handler candidates to read and write and do basic math.)

Garret had the day off, since Dragonspine was messing around with some of the younger kids. The old man had grumped something about having to find a new apprentice. Garret had chuckled at that. Trust Dragonspine to get upset that his apprentice was learning more and more and was soon to move up in the rankings. Or, well, close to it. He still had a lot to learn, but it was good that the crazy man realized that he did know SOMETHING about fighting.
The handler was not paying much attention to his surroundings as he started towards his favorite place: the shooting range. Practice makes perfect. So when Spike gave an odd chirping noise, the boy was a bit startled. Spike didn't usually make that sort of noise. Usually he hissed at everyone else. Well, besides Garret, but for Spike to actually be greeting someone... who?
Garret glanced about and spotted L, his face coming rather close to a real smile. Ah... L. The one person in this hellish place that he wouldn't kill, given the chance. Well, he might not kill Snaketail either... the other handler was useful... giving him poisons to play with.
"Hey." Oooh, look. Real words!

(( Orpheus, Nag, when you get here, somebody take over L for me. I've got five characters on my hands!)) BAM BAM BAM! Just as Razorquil began to speak, L fired her gun, completely drowning him out. Ah the smell of fresh gunpowder. Three perfect new holes appear in the cutout in front of her. One through the center of the forehead, one through the heart, and the last one in the groin, just to be mean. It was nice to have the day off, but predictably, L spent it doing something productive. She brushed a lock of blonde hair out of her eyes and started reloading her pistol.

Spike hissed at the loud noises, his second layer of fur rising up in its spiked glory. Garret, however, was looking at the target. He grimaced a bit at the last target. Unable to resist the urge to show off, the boy reached around to his back and pulled out a few good sized quills. Picking two of a good length and sharp pointed, he aimed towards the target. Ssssph, ssssph went the two quills in rapid succession.
The youth studied the cutout and was proud to see each one stuck at what would be each breast... if the cutout had had any such thing. Practice definitely paid off. Garret smirked.

She had to admit that the target now looked pretty ridiculous with those two quills waving about like two overly long nipples. "Empty-headed and open hearted with a hole in the crotch and a pair of tits. Is that what you think of women now?" She smiled, still gazing at the cardboard cutout in front of them. "You've grown since I last saw you."

A grunt and a shrug were his answer to L's question. He didn't think about women that much really. After all, he didn't see women. Well, unless Dragonspine counted. Which was quite possible...
"Been a while." Garret commented, nodding. "Nice shot." He reached up and stroked Spike, who gave a happy little noise at the attention.

She stripped her weapon absentmindedly, carefully cleaning the residue from each piece before putting it all back together. She was..responsible to say the least, but even L got tired of constant work. It was her day off and she wanted to spend it doing something other than shooting and paperwork. "B's watching the little ones today. Would you like to come to town with me for a while?"

Garret watched as L cleaned her weapon and put it all back together. He was a bit startled by her question. Go to town? He hadn't left Faction S facilities in some time. But this was L. "Sure." He commented, trying to appear more at ease about the idea than he actually was. He'd gotten used to people at FactS... they didn't remark on his odd appearance. It was the norm around here.

((Must get them a decent distance away from the facility. Alarm call coming.)) Some time later, L was out of her labcoat for once and comfortably astride a motorcycle with her former student seated not quite as comfortably behind her. The journey was a little bit tedious for a person who was used to being transported on the back of a chimera, but it wasn't as if a large flying carnivorous creature could be easily hidden in a handbag. Talking was pointless over the roar of the engine between her legs and the roar of the wind in her ears. Whatever she said would be drowned out anyway, so she hummed quietly to herself as she steered them down the well-paved road.

((*giggles* Don't want this little date interrupted!))
Garret was just glad he was in the back. If he'd had to drive, well, there'd be one VERY uncomfortable L stuck behind him with all his quills! He was more than happy to let her drive, though his eyes were shut the entire way into town. And he had the excuse to hug L without looking like a baby. Day was already a win for him.

An insistent beeping sound rang through the stillness of L's dorm. The beeping matched the flickering of a tiny green light from the inside the front pocket of her discarded lab coat.
"Dammit! Why isn't she answering?!"

Oblivious to the chaos and mayhem happening in her absence, L steered her motorbike into town dreamily. Finding parking was never easy, but today the perfect spot appeared. In fact, everything was going perfectly today. The weather was perfect. The business of the streets was at the perfect level. Best of all, she had perfect company. She flashed a warm smile at Razorquil as she popped a few quarters into the parking meter. "Is there anywhere you'd like to go?"

Finally the ride was over. Garret just tried not to remember that they'd have to ride the motorbike BACK to Faction S. L's question threw him for a moment and he glanced around where they'd parked. Several shops were in the area, but the apprentice had no clue what was really in most of them.
Spike hissed at the noise of the town before curling up tight against Garret's neck. The boy winced briefly as some of the chimera's second layer prickled against his skin. Inside would be good. Finally, he answered L's question with a shrug. He didn't really care where they went. She was the one who'd wanted to come to town after all.

Just a shrug? And she thought he'd made so much progress. L refused to worry about it on her day off. Instead she checked her watch and waved him into a nearby coffee shop. "Let's stop here for a bit. The sandwiches are really good." Even if she didn't really expect him to respond, she could keep trying, couldn't she? L stopped the thought there. Day off. Day off. No working and no teaching. Just two friends spending some time together.

Garret nodded, following L into the coffee shop. The aroma of roasted beans, hot milk, and pastries hit him as he entered. The smell made him realize that he was indeed hungry. The young man made his way to the counter, eyes scanning the offered selections.
Grabbing a turkey and swiss on wheat and a soda, Garret waited for L to make her choice before moving on to pay. "I've got it," he told the tech as he pulled out some of the pocket money he was given. He didn't usually go out and so hardly spent any of it.
