Melete was born and raised in the grasslands of Neilan's smallest continent, located in the southern tropics of the planet. Her people are quite different from normal Neilani, and are normally strict isolationists. They claim to have a direct connection to the Gods and all folklore surrounding them.
Until now, Melete lived alone with her older brother, Elgei. She participates in the program in accordance with his wishes, as he wants her to learn about the outside world- and the world outside Neilan.
Melete is extremely distrustful of outsiders; Gaians in particular. Old legends have painted Gaians as selfish villains, and that is all she knows of them. Because of this, she refuses to partake in any Gaian customs, eat Gaian foods, or even wear Gaian clothes. She simply plans to serve her time to please her brother, and then return home when it's all over.
Her keepsake from home is her tribal necklace.Vital Statistics Height: 5'5 Weight: 120 lbs Hair: Auburn (Ends dyed blonde) Eyes: Blue Distinguishing Marks: Tattoo under left eye IQ: 120 Mind Strength: Above Average

Eriol is the oldest of DS's wards, physically at least, and in spite of her not wanting to play favorites, the one she is closest to. He loves adventure, and while he is content to read about it, would much prefer living his own. Whenever he can he heads out to the Gaia Jedi Academy to watch the Jedi train, but is usually roped into babysitting duty. Though he doesn't always act it, he likes most of his family, even if he thinks it's too big and sometimes gets lonely. Eriol's speech, actions, and writing will be in green.
Yeine technically isn't a ward, more like a boarder; she is staying with the Saturne family while training at the Gaia Jedi Academy. She is intensely shy and usually keeps to herself when at home, though she is somewhat more social with fellow apprentices. She hates being touched by others and will lash out at any who approach uninvitied, but other than that it is difficult to get the gentle Cathar angry. Still, her gentleness hides a quick mind and an agile body, both of which are being trained so that she may become one of the galaxy's finest. Yeine will be using magenta.
Karan is one of the newer additions the the household, and currently the youngest. He showed up on the doorstep one day, and having no other ideas, took the boy in. He is usually fairly nice, social, and cheery, but can change moods at the drop of a hat. He also seems to be nocturnal, much to DS's despair. Not much else is known about him, or the moon and sun emblems he bears. Karan's actions, etc will be in gray.
Xue came to DS's house under nearly as strange circumstances as Karan. However, instea of her adopting him, he adopted her, and wouldn't let her leave without him. Xue is a Porcelain, a race of beings who, while similar to humans, are smaller, built differently, and speak mostly through mindspeech, a fluid, empathic form of communication. Nearly always happy, he adores the company of others and will try to recruit anyone and everyone into a game. Xue will be using light green.
Ying came from a stone DS picked up during one of her more recent travels and sent home to her godson Eriol. One of the Jumi, a race born from mysterious cores which reside in their chests until death and are key to preserving their life, Ying is a little skittish around unknowns. Rather than hide however, this courageous girl will look strangers in the eye and not back down. Thus, she is usually a good judge of character, and likes nothing more than helping others when she can. Ying speaks and writes in dark pink.
Linnea is DS's oldest ward in terms of age, and another terribly shy one. Her fins make her very self-conscious, and they will start to tremble if she is feeling emotionally charged. She prefers staying in her room with her dolls to playing with other children. Born of a mysterious flower, she has an unusual connection with water that unsettles everyone, especially herself. Her speech and actions are in blue.

Letter from Home Dearest Melete, I hope you have arrived in Gaia safely. Commander Haladet has assured me that you were received well, but it would still comfort me to hear it directly from you. The Elders aren't too happy with your departure, but I made sure all responsibility is on my shoulders, where it belongs. I would love to hear how things are on the other side; I have always been curious as to what things are like, but I've never been able to venture out myself. I can only hope that you will find it as fascinating as I do. Please tell me how your host family treats you, and please keep me up-to-date with what goes on. I hope to hear from you soon. Much love, Elgei

Arrival
Lillian stands against the wall where the entrance is located, arms folded across her chest and checking her watch periodically.
They're late.
"No, don't send her over yet," she whispers into a small device that resembles a walkie-talkie. "They're not here yet."
"No, I don't know where he is. ...Yes, I know you have a schedule to keep. Don't worry about it." A pause. "No, you won't be held accountable. Yes, I'm sure."
She sighs and glances at the doors. "...Perhaps he got lost."
Lillian wouldn't be too far off. The man certainly was lost, in more ways than one. Flanked by Porcelain on both sides, he pauses to consult a scrap of paper clenched in his fist.
Are they there yet?
Does it LOOK like they're there yet? It's a warehouse!
The man sighs. The trip had only lasted half an hour, but it was far too long. Luckily it looked like they had reached the destination. Ignoring the squabbles of the children accompanying him, he pushed the door open.
"Hello? Is anyone here?" "Mister Winchester," Lillian answers unemotionally- not even glancing up at him. "It is well past the time we agreed on. You do realize that we here have schedules to keep?"
Still not even looking at either of the three, she turns back to the walkie-talkie. "Yes. They're here. Send her through."
See! They ARE here! 3nodding
So Junyi came from a warehouse? o.o;;;
Lionel sends an annoyed glance at the Porcelain. They had made him keep a lady waiting! Even if the lady wasn't the most pleasurable one he had met, it went against his morals. "Forgive me, Miss Haladet, but I was... held up." Another glare.
But Neechan had to come too!
The only reason Nusumu is here is to annoy Sneaky's human. That's all. stare
But Des is nice! sad
And she'll be happy! Xue knows it! biggrin
Lionel sighs exhaustedly and gives a final prayer that the child he'll be meeting would be a bit... calmer. @_@
Lillian raises an eyebrow, glancing at the two Porcelain.
Ah, so THOSE are the beings that Miss Keth had been around. Interesting.
"I see," she answers, finally seeming to acknowledge his presence. "She'll be through shortly."
As if to punctuate her statement, the doors on the other wall opened slowly, and two guards solemnly walked through, followed by an odd looking, defiant little girl.
"Melete Ourania Kelahen," Lillian says quietly, gesturing to the girl, "will be under your care, Mister Winchester."
Melete glances up at Lionel, eyes ablaze with a heavily veiled, smoldering distaste.
Hrm. This girl looks interesting to-
HellothisisXueandNeechanandLionandwhoisthegirlwillshebeafriendNusumumakesgoodcookies! biggrin biggrin !
"It is a... a pleasure, Miss Kelahen." Lionel, trying his best to ignore the two with him, bows before extending a gloved hand toward the girl. She seemed calmer than the others, at least.
Melete stares at Lionel's hand for a moment, and then squats down in front of Xue and Nusumu, her head tilting to the side as she listens to him.
She wasn't aware that there would be empaths here. confused
For an instant, her face softens.
HELLO! biggrin
Nusumu winces. Kids are so noisy stressed
The gloved hand vanishes into a pocket of Lionel's old-fashioned coat. His enthusiasm isn't dampened, mostly because he had little to start with. "Ahem. Well, Miss Kelahen, you must be exhausted after your journey. If you would just follow me, I will show you the way to the house you will be housed at during your stay."
Not a bad way out, he compliments himself.
The frown returns with a vengence, and Melete once again glances up at Lionel, her eyes narrowing.
Suddenly, she hesitates, as if remembering something.
"Er..." she mumbles, glancing away. "...Thank you."
Her English seems to be rather heavily accented, especially when compared with the other Neilani roaming about the embassy.
Well done, he smirks. Well done indeed.
"In that case, Miss Kelahen, I ask that you come with me." To the older woman, he tips his hat (a black satin top hat from DS's attic). "I am grateful for your assistance and leniency, and most humbly beg your pardon. Hopefully the next time we meet will be in a case of pleasure, rather than business. We cannot engage in tedium all the time."
Xue pokes Melete in the waist.
What's the girl's name? Xue should know, if she's coming to live with him!
She's going to live with the humans, not Xue. He's just a guest there too.
But Des is Xue's human, so her house is his house, right?
... Whatever. Works for Nusumu.
"Melete," she whispers, still staring at the short little beings that argued amongst themselves.
....Maybe...
...Maybe Elgei was right. Maybe things aren't going to be so bad, after all.
Mel is coming with Xue now! And they will have fun! 3nodding
He reaches up and grabs Melete by the hand, pulling her towards the large silvery doors.
Xue had better not leave without Nusumu! scream
"Good day, ma'am."
Lionel sweeps another, far more flourished bow, and runs off after the children, ruining his self-image of perfection somewhat.
Lillian waves curtly at Lionel, her attention once again on the walkie-talkie. "Is the next one ready? Her host will be here any minute."
A young woman approached quietly, hands clasped behind her back. She's small, and pale, with cropped dark hair. "Hello." She says calmly.
Oh, another young lady approaching. Lionel can't help but nod his head charmingly, tipping the hat yet again, with a soft "Good day, miss." Oh, he's good.
Is the lion man coming or not? stare
Or not. "Coming, coming..." Talk about no rest for the weary.

Homecoming
"The House Saturne, from what I'm led to believe. Otherwise known as home, for a while at least." Lionel extended a hand towards the enormous house proudly. It was far from his home at Chateau Landon, but during his stay there he had started to feel proud of his home and those he lived with. Even if they were doomed to burn in hell. Then again, by accepting care of this girl, he had doomed himself to much the same fate.
Melete studied the house. "Is this it?"
Yes! This is where Xue and Des and Lion and Eri and Yei and Ying and Lin and the egg all live! biggrin
And where Nusumu leaves.
She waves, more to Melete than to the males, and starts off back towards the cottage.
"Miss..." What was the girl's name again? Oh yes. "Miss Melete. Yes, this is it." Nervously he tapped Xue's shoulder. "Boy, would you mind checking to see if the lady of the house is in?"
ZOOM.
"Lady?" That confused her, but then, she expected much would. "Your wife?"
The comment solicited a laugh tainted with bitterness. "My host. Yours as well, when it all boils down. It's her house, her kids, and her kindness we all depend on." Much as there was.
"What a silly way to form a household." There wasn't much point in hiding her contempt.
Des isn't home!
Lionel sighed. "Will you please just go in?"
"Of course, Mister Winchester."
"You can call me Lionel, if you wish."
"Of course, Mister Winchester." She waited for him to make the first move and followed him into the house.
"Oi, so ya finally-" A male voice started, but stopped just as abruptly as he came into view. "Who the heck's that?"
Lionel shook his head scoldingly. "Eriol, be nice. This is Miss Melete Kelahen, and she'll be staying here for a while."
"Does Mom know?"
"... No. I didn't think it prudent to inform her."
Eriol started to laugh, a smirking "You're-gonna-be-in-trouble" kind of laugh. "You're gonna be in trouble..."
"I was not informed as to limitations of my power while residing here."
Melete was already bored, and decided to take a look around. Even though it wasn't polite, she wouldn't snoop, per say, and she'd find out more than the Gaians would tell her.
As she moved past her host and the boy, she was confronted with a choice. An open door on her left seemed to lead to a large room, but the corridor extended further into the house. She knew she'd eventually see both ways, but first...
"I'm telling you Yeinie, it's not going to get any- oh!" A girl in a strange pink and green robe barreled out of the open door and crashed into Melete. "Owww..."
Another girl, this one far more timid looking, peered out from behind the door. "Ying, are you alright?"
The first girl brushed off her robes and long purple hair, and nooded cheerily. "Yup! Are you okies? I didn't expect anyone out here... sorry. Who're you?"
Even though both girls offered her a hand up, Melete refused them both, standing by herself. "Do all Gaians bump into their guests," she queried evenly, ignoring the girl's question.
"Um... I guess I wasn't watching where I was going, sorry. Who are you anyway?"
The second girl lowered her hands from her face, revealing very cat-like features. "I am sorry too."
"It's nice if you ask someone's name to give yours first." Both girls blushed, but Melete went on. "But I'll tell you anyway, so you see. My name is Melete Kelahen, and I'm... staying here. You?"
The second girl spoke first. "I'm Yeine, Yeine Nalari. We're staying here too. It's nice to meet you."
"My name's Ying. Nice to meetcha! And I'm sorry about the whole crashing thing." She rubbed the back of her head sheepishly.
They both stayed here too? How many Gaians would she have to endure in such close contact?
Mel met Yei and Ying already? She's fast! 3nodding
Melete spun around, the girls already vanishing from her mind.
How many people live here?
Lots... there's Eri, and Lin, and Kar, and Yei and Ying, and Lion and Des. And Xue, of course. biggrin
That many!? eek
And Mel now! So Xue has a new friend! whee
Melete staggered a little, realizing just what she would have to deal with. It would be impossible to last! But then, she had found a surprise already, so maybe...
Are any of them empaths?
Neechan is. And Sneaky. But they don't live in the big house.
Des is. And Kar might be. Xue isn't sure.
They would be places to start, then.
It is only then that Melete notices Yeine and Ying staring at her oddly. "What is it?"
"A-are you okay? You just went all quiet, and we got worried..."
Of course, they couldn't understand. "It was not your conversation to hear," she replied icily.
"Well, there you are!" Lionel stuck his head into the room they had all ended up in. "Children, this is Melete Kelahen, and she is part of an exchange program. She will be residing here for the duration of her time on Gaia."
"Can I see my room?"
The request caught Lionel off guard. "Er... that will have to wait until-"
"Can I have a place to sit for a while then? Alone?"
What a demanding girl. "Of course, my dear... you may use my own room if you do desire."
Xue can show Mel where it is!
If he wants to.
Melete turns to follow Xue, but a hand on her shoulder stops her.
"Here." The man hands Melete a thin white envelope. "Miss Haladet asked that I give this to you."
She nodded, pocketing the letter, and going to follow the Porcelain once more.
"Do you need any-"
"No."

Welcoming
Melete had barely been in her host's room for five minutes before the sounds of shouting trailed up the creaky stairs to the attic. Even though she didn't really care who it was, she inched herself towards the door, hoping to get a better listen.
"... without even asking? It isn't even like you! That's the only reason I didn't outright forbid it."
"Madam." Lionel's voice was stretched to the limits of patience. "You expressly instructed me to follow the commands of these wards of yours. Since they know so much more than I do. I am only following your request."
"Wha... who?" The shouting voice, female, faltered.
"The young lad by the name of Xue requested my assistance, and following your instructions, I gave it to him."
There was a pause, and the female sighed. "I see. I'll have to talk to him."
"What about Miss Melete? Will she have to go back?"
"Hrm? No, of course not. She can stay in Kem's room for now, I suppose."
"Whose? I doubt she would enjoy sharing a room..."
"Kemuri's. He shared it with Cereth a little, but they're both travelling right now. I doubt they'll be back anytime soon. And even if they are, Kemuri knows to check Vi'domi first." The woman murmured to herself, seemingly forgetting both her company and the dilemma accompanying him.
"Ahem."
"Mm? Oh, sorry... so, where is she? I'd like to meet her at least."
Melete was half tempted to fling the door wide open, burst down the stairs, and make an entrance no one would forget. The thought scared her. Was she conforming to Gaian flamboyancy already?
"She asked to be alone, so I offered the use of my chambers."
"Fine. Could you go get her please? I'll check the room to make sure nothing's in there that shouldn't be."
Footsteps creaked up the stairs, announcing her host's arrival in advance. As he opened the door, he prayed that the time to herself would have calmed his new ward down.
Melete brushed past Lionel and continued down the stairs. "We shouldn't keep our host waiting, Mister Winchester."
"... Of course not, Miss Melete."
DS could both hear and feel them coming, which surprised her. So he'd picked up an empath, had he? That made things more interesting. If nothing else, Xue would have someone who understood him better. She herself was a poor substitue for a true empath. But she got by well enough. Giving the red bedsheet one last tug to straighten it, she called out, "Come on in."
Lionel entered first. "Miss Saturne, I would like to present Miss Melete Kelahen, of the land of Neilan."
Much to Melete's surprise, DS offered up a bow of her own. "A pleasure, Melete. I hope you enjoy your stay here in Gaia." A hand extended towards the young girl.
Melete looked at the hand, then turned her head away. "I doubt it. But I will try to survive."
"I see. Well, no matter what Lionel here has told you, Melete, we have a rather nice place here. And I think you will like it."
Pondering this for a moment, defiant eyes glimmered up at the woman. "We shall see about that."
