[[ Because come on, you know you love the insane staff/NPCs. ;D This may start as a formal IC RP, but it'll probably get nuts after. |DD ]]
The young woman sighed as she slid the window open, feeling her mood lighten a little when she felt a soft, cool breeze blow in. "It's such a nice day..." Eirian murmured softly, almost wistfully.
She had spent the whole morning going over the research she had collected, and then sift through old books in an attempt to find any other information on the Blessed - especially regarding the special stages of growth she had heard about. To make matters worse, she couldn't find Reiyan anywhere - she had been planning to make him help look through the books. 'He's probably out flirting with some poor girl.' She thought with irritation as she moved to sit back onto the floor where all her books sat. Picking up one of the books, she held it as if she was going to throw it. 'When I find him...'
Grumbling under her breath, she dropped the small book and pulled a heavier looking book onto her lap. She leafed through the pages, her eyes skimming the pages quickly. "Nothing." She sighed again, pushing the book back onto the floor. Eirian flopped over a stack of books, looking rather tired. "I've been looking all morning, and I even skipped lunch. I think it's time for a break now." Still, as she stood up, she found herself staring at the other books that she had yet to go through. It was incredibly tempting for her to sit back down and spend the rest of the afternoon and evening reading.
...Someone really needed to drag her out of that study.

"Gaaah!" An exasperated voice rang out and the blue-haired woman stomped in, dropping the tablets she held in her arms onto the floor. "I swear, Cherub, stop following me! I was working dammit!" Having the Solace rocking next to her and chirping about Porings was driving the Blacksmith nuts.
"But I'm a cute little Poring~~" Cherub sang delightedly, bouncing after Tarina.
"You've said that dozens of times already!" The female turned to glare at the Solace, then sighed, pulling out an apple and tossing it at Cherub. Having her eat something would probably shut her up. Her pet caught it delightedly and munched on it, hopping up and down on her harp.
"Hey Eirian, got more tablets." Tarina jerked her head towards the pile on the floor. Eyes narrowed at the stack of books and she put her hands on her hips. "How long have you been here?"

Reiyan actually wasn't that far off from where Eirian happened to be working. The professor would surely be able to hear him sing as he started up now. Yet Reiyan hadn't quite kept that in mind. This wasn't a song for Eirian's ears. It wasn't about the Blessed. No, it was about some random, pretty young lady walking by.
The girl smiled coyly to Reiyan at his song, blushing. He merely grinned back. So, perhaps he should have been doing his job. Singing about the Blessed or helping with the cute pets, but he was just so distracted!
Eirian wouldn't mind. She couldn't! He needed some time to himself every once in a while! Which meant he felt the need to skip out of work every hour or so.

Eirian glanced up in surprise at the familiar voice. "Tarina?" She ventured catiously, wondering what was the matter. It was only when she heard the name 'Cherub' and when they came into view did realize what was going on. Raising her hand to her mouth, she tried to hide her amusement (but probably failed. Badly).
"She's still convinced that she's a Poring?" The professor asked, grinning as she moved to stoop down beside the Solace. "Well," She said Tarina's pet thoughtfully, "You're cute enough - but you just don't seem to be made out of the same jelly-like substances Porings are."
She turned to look at the tablets then, before smiling up at other woman. "Thanks, Tarina." She then coughed, trying to look innocent. "Not that long," Eirian lied, though she knew fully well that if anyone could see through her lies, it was Tarina, "Just an hour or two, maybe..."
When she caught the faint sound of music, she felt both relief and irritation flood though her. Relief because it would possibly help serve as a distraction, and irritation because...well, the Bard she had hired was obviously not doing his job.
Standing up, she strode towards where the sound was the loudest - the window. Here, she picked up some words from Reiyan's song. She probably would have left him be if it were about the Blessed, but instead he was singing about a woman. "Typical." She growled, grasping the book that was closest to her.
"Reiyan!"

She glared at Eirian as the other giggled, crossing her arms in annoyance. "It's not funny! I was working, and she was there, rocking beside me!" Mentally she made a note never to hatch another egg, especially when she had no idea what it was.
She blew out her breath in a sigh. "I'm just a bit annoyed, I guess." She muttered. It wasn't really Cherub's fault...
"But Poring jump!" The Solace exclaimed, hopping up and down on the harp, and Tarina turned to throw her another glare and an apple, in which the pet replied. "Master, you wanna make me fat?" and was rewarded with an "Aargh!"
"Uhhhhh huuhhhhh." An eyebrow raised. "I know you have to work and all, but you need breaks, Eirian." Her ears perked up as the music reached them, and she frowned. Reiyan again... and it was about a woman.
She followed Eirian, and stuck her head out of the window. "God dammit Reiyan, SHUT UP, or I'll throw a hammer at you!" It wasn't good to make Tarina annoyed, especially when she was already on edge.

Crap. Reiyan stiffened as he heard the two women yet at him, stopping in midsong to start up some sappy epic about the Blessed. He sort of didn't want another concussion. He eyed the green-skinned Bongun beside him as he sang, watching an utter look of admiration cross Naeledo's face.
"Master Reiyan sang about the Blessed!" Nael exclaimed, clapping excitedly as Reiyan finished. "Miss lady! Miss lady! Did you hear!" He called to Eirian, delighted. He was so proud of his master.
"Yes," Reiyan mumbled eyeing the window where Eirian and Tarina were. "I know you ladies might get jealous sometimes, but do you always have to resort to violence?" He complained, rubbing the back of his head where Eirian had nailed him yesterday.

Rongol's stride was leisurely, borderline on lethargic. On this sunny afternoon he didn't have much to do with himself, and had resorted to only wandering about the city. Lifting a gloved hand, he pushed the short spikes of silver hair from his face, clearing his storm-hued eyes from the obstruction. His face, marred with two or three long, thin scars, was as pale as his arms, wrapped by a series of jagged, black tattoos.
As he reached the top of the hill, his ears heard the tail end of a bard's song, before it was followed by shouts from an upper window. Observing the scene before him, he folded his arms over his chest, highly amused at the situation. Lifting his hand, he threw the tail end of his scarf back over his toned shoulder, the bits of metal and weaponry at his sides clinking softly with his movement.
"At it again?" he called out, raising a hand in greeting, "Don't you ever stop? I come from the other side of town and all I hear is your yelling." he smirked broadly, coming to a halt alongside Reiyan and giving him a hard slap to the back, gloved and calloused hand feeling little of the impact.
"Is Eirian beating up on you again?" he crooned in mock sympathy, "You must be doing something wrong if you're getting hit every other day, you know."

A certain Assassin Cross sauntered past the open stalls and small shops of the shopping district, absently glancing over the various eggs, gems, and scrolls. There was nothing unusual in the market today. A quick glance behind her told her that her pet Diabolic was still following her, and upon this confirmation she quickened her pace.
Vyassa was on her way to Professor Eirian's study, making her daily rounds to check up on the other woman's work. She had to make sure the money she expended was being used well, after all—funding a professor's work was risky business. Her pale violet eyes flickered in slight anticipation at the wealth she expected by the end of the deal. She better be doing her work.
A characteristic puffing sounded behind her, and she turned around to find that her pet had set something else on fire again. "Biscuit!" she snapped, stepping to stomp out the fire, "How many TIMES have I TOLD you, no fires in the towns?! You really are more trouble than you're worth, you know." The Diabolic merely twitched and cackled as if high on caffeine, unfazed by his master's outburst. Vyassa scowled, fishing out a meat kabob for her sidekick. Biscuit happened to be mute, too, for some odd reason, so she couldn't even be sure that he understood her...
Miss Eirian had done her the favor of catching the violent, demonic pet for her, since Burning Red Stones were not in circulation, and she had also hooked the assassin up to its supply of food. A small smirk appeared across Vyassa's lips as she remembered the incident. It took them the better part of an hour, catching Biscuit. In all honesty the relationship between the professor and the assassin was quite friendly, even close, especially since their mutual... dislike for some of Reiyan's habits brought them together.
She strode past the minstrel now, the little path of destruction following quickly, and cast him a withering look. Rongol she saw second, and a more respectable look formed on her face as she nodded to him in greeting. They seldom talked, even being of the same class, but she knew him to be efficient just as she was.
The professor was just ahead, with Tarina. "Hey, Tarina—Ah, Miss Eirian~ If you ever run out of books to throw at Reiyan here I'd be happy to pick up some more for you. How goes it, you two?"

Eirian stifled another giggle, her eyes twinkling. "Well, it could be worse. She could be playing the harp instead of just rocking on it." The silver-haired woman pointed out, grinning to pat the Solace's head. "And I don't think you can get fat off of apples, Cherub, so I wouldn't worry too much about that if I were you."
Peering out of the window, her irritated face was cracked by a smile, by Tarina's comment. "Two against one," She called out, "The odds are not in your favour." She sighed as Reiyan's song suddenly changed, which was followed by the excited clapping of his Blessed, Nael.
"Yes, I heard, Nael." She called back, grinning at the Blessed. She was pretty fond of the green-skinned Bongun - and besides, it wasn't his fault he had bonded to an idiot. "But I wouldn't get used to it if I were you."
Eirian's eyes narrowed a little as she noticed Reiyan's mutter something. Figuring it wasn't something she would like, she rose the hand that held the book she had been planning to throw. Before she could release it however, Rongol came into view. She sighed at him, lowering her arm. "We'd stop yelling if Mr. Bard over there stopped flirting and did his job. I wouldn't stick around him too often if I were you, Rongol - it would be terrible if you began to flirt with all the women you were hired to kill."
The professor glanced up in surprise, turning as Vyassa greeted and approached them. "Vyassa!" She greeted the Assassin Cross with a broad smile, and a laugh, "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." Her smile faltered a little as she looked at the Diabolic trailing after her warily and pushed some of her books behind her. This whole room was flammable, and she knew very well - after the painful attempt it had taken to catch the little demon - that Biscuit was more than capable of burning the place down if it wanted to.
She paused as she suddenly remembered something she had been about to do before Rongol and Vyassa had arrived. "Oh, right. Now where was I?" Turning back to the window, she drew back the hand with the book. "Rongol, Nael, I'd get out of the way, if I were you." She called, promptly chucking one of her books out at Reiyan.
Well. At least it was a paperback.

Tarina pouted. "Well at least she doesn't sing about girls." It was obvious that she was referring to Reiyan, and even though he had changed his song once he had heard them, she was unimpressed. As usual.
The Solace blinked at Eirian then smiled, hopping to be beside her master. "Poring throw apple?"
"That's the best idea you've had all day." Tarina grinned. "But I wouldn't want to waste them on him." And besides, she had gathered those apples to feed her pet, and not to give Reiyan a concussion, however much she wanted to.
"Why don't you learn from your lessons and stop being such an idiot...oh wait, sorry. Forgot who I was talking to." The blacksmith shot back at Reiyan, pushing light blue strands impatiently away from her eyes. It wasn't her fault she thought he was brainless; he kept acting like one.
She nodded along to Eirian's words, giving Rongol a slight wave of acknowledgment. "That would be a laugh. We don't need another Reiyan around here though."
"'Lo Vyassa!" Tarina was after all, more friendly towards the girls and even Rongol than to Reiyan. She shot a wary look at Biscuit, even as Cherub bounced forward curiously to have a closer look at the other pet. "I'm not sure we should waste books on that idiot. Maybe we need to get some stones or something."
The blacksmith gave a chuckle as she watched the professor launch a book at the bard. "Nice." She commented, giggling slightly.

Reiyan looked up to the assassin cross as he approached, sighing dramatically as the other slapped him on the back. "Ouch." He mumbled, his lips forming into a pout. "You know Eirian." He replied smoothly. "She's quite a jealous girl." Reiyan grinned coolly. "She just doesn't like when I sing about other women, Rongol."
The bard looked offended at the withering look Vyassa gifted him with and made a face, making a mental note that she was merely envious, as well. Hmph. "I always do my job!" Reiyan called to Eirian, sounding annoyed and ignoring the upset on Nael's face. These women! At times he felt that their jealously carried them too far.
"No one loves Master except for me, miss lady." Nael informed Eirian sadly as he trotted over to where she was with the other women. "And I love him because he is my master and he feeds me!" Naeledo declared, watching in morbid silence as Eirian chucked the book. "Poor Master." He sighed.
"Emigawd OW!" Reiyan complained, picking up the paperback tome that had just bounced off of his head and onto the ground. "You're hurting me! What if I get a concussion? Or worse... a broken heart?!"

A loud laugh came from Rongol's throat, something that wasn't often heard. Honestly, the amount of bullying the girls did to Reiyan was ridiculous at times, but there were moments like this where it was just plain comical. He tipped his head to Vyassa as she passed, a greeting reserved only to those he saw eye-to-eye with himself. Did he know her well? No, but the stories of her exploits and success had spread far across the city.
Suddenly hearing Eirian's call of warning, Rongol side-stepped away from Reiyan, moving only moments before the poor bard was smacked in the head with a book. "Wouldn't dream of it, Eirian," he replied, settling back down again, "It's not in my nature to flaunt in front of women. Can't keep order around here and chase women at the same time."
Reaching over to pat the bard again, a little more gently this time, the assassin lifted his other hand to gently tug his scarf higher up on his face. "I'm sure they'll accept you some day, Reiyan." he stated, a serious tone in his voice. He stared at his face for a moment, before a soft, quirky smile took over. "Or, maybe not. You can hope, though, if you fancy so."
Moving his steely gaze, he looked back up towards the group of women, eying Vyassa's pet as she entered with some semblance of worry. He had seen that thing before, and knew exactly what it did, what it was capable of. In a battle the thing would be great, but a library? Not so much.

Gentler greetings followed as Vyassa continued to acknowledge the other women and their pets. She placed a hand on her hip with an amused expression when Eirian warned the other assassin of the book launch that was about to come, and laughed heartlessly when Reiyan was nailed by the hefty tome—too bad it was only a paperback. True it was that she had expected the books to be used in a different way, but for Reiyan's case this was probably equally productive.
The assassin cross sniffed at Reiyan's further complaints, shaking her head slightly. And he wondered why he deserved this. "Just be glad she isn't throwing her stone tablets at you yet, you oaf!" she called from the doorway with another laugh.
For the moment she was unaware of the Diabolic bouncing around near the doorway in an absurd fashion—was it possible that he was twitching even more than usual? She hadn't missed the professor's and blacksmith's wary looks as Biscuit made his entrance, but he wouldn't set anything on fire so soon after the last... Vyassa turned her head to make sure he wasn't doing anything funny. The sight made her blanch.
"Biscuit!" she screeched. A more audible curse followed as she realized what he was doing. He was in the middle of casting the fire spell he was so known for. Her attempt to stop him was valiant; she took an immediate step forward and lowered herself into a barrel roll to catch the wayward pet and rush it outside before he could finish his spell. That had taken only a second. It was too late, however, because when she lifted her eyes heavenward from her recovered position outside of the small shack, the fireballs were headed right at the doorway she had been standing in. "Eirian!" the frantic shout tore from her throat, "Water, now!"

Laughing, Eirian pat Cherub's head fondly. "That's true. If she started singing about girls..." The woman trailed off, shaking her head with amusement. "You might disown her or something."
She smiled at the Solace's suggestion, and nodded in agreement with Tarina. "Food is for eating, not throwing. Then again..." She trailed off, looking at her books, "Maybe I should use something else..." She murmured. Such a waste to use good books...though it WAS for a justified cause. In her opinion - and the other two women, probably - at least.
Peering back out of the window, she frowned at Reiyan. "I'm not jealous!" She insisted, "And I'll remind you that I know how to use the spells in these tomes that I have. They're not just for throwing, you know." She could suddenly have mood swings, it seemed. Polite and rather affectionate to some - mainly Blessed - and more irate with...well, with Reiyan.
When Nael moved towards them, her demeanor changed again, suddenly. "Poor thing. That's sweet of you though - you indeed are probably the only one who loves your master." Eirian informed the Blessed, sighing as her book met with the bard's head. "And I apologize for constantly throwing my tomes at you," She turned to look at Reiyan, and spoke somewhat grudgingly, "But would it kill you to do some work for once?"
Deciding to completely ignore his comment about a broken heart, she glanced at Rongol. "Good. It'd be a shame if I had to waste more of my books." Though frankly, she didn't think throwing her tomes at an assassin cross was a very wise idea anyways.
Hearing Vyassa screech behind her, Eirian jerked around quickly, staring as Biscuit shot little fireballs at the room. "Oh for the love of - Alice!" She yelled, hoping the robotic maid would hear her, "Bring water please! A lot of it!"
As she called, she dashed to her desk, shoving aside some tomes. Where was that water tome? Biting her lip frantically - she did NOT want this place burning down, along with her precious books - Eirian snatched up a leather-bound book and flipped it open. "That spell..." She flipped though it quickly, fully aware that the flames probably only getting bigger the longer she took.
Alice had come in then with buckets of water, pouring it over whatever had set aflame. While she managed to douse out some of the flames, more flickered and grew, reaching for the pile of books. Having finally found what she was looking for, Eirian made a quick motion towards the fire, muttering something under her breath.
Suddenly, a heavy rain seemed to start - though it was indoors, and hovered only above the fire. Watching as the flames went out, and the rain stopping as suddenly as it started, the professor seated herself on the windowsill, letting out a long, shaky sigh.
"V-Vyassa, Tarina, maybe we should go outside, where my books and research aren't in danger of being set on fire." She suggested, still a little shaky, "And I should probably grab a bite to eat too." Either it was the fact she hadn't eaten, or the incident just now, but she was feeling a little faint. They both probably contributed to it.

"She'll probably go team up with Reiyan. And I'll try to lose her somewhere." Tarina would, really. The bard didn't need more encouraging.
"Poring not fat! Poring just...under tall!" Cherub whined, seeming to take it as an insult to her size and her apple eating.
"That you should." She frowned. Books, tablets were out of the question. And even though she had threatened to throw one of her weapons at Reiyan, she didn't take too kindly to dirtying them.
"You know, Reiyan." Tarina called, propping her elbows on the windowsill and resting her chin on her palms. "I find it difficult as to see why Eirian would be jealous of you. I was of the impression she was feeling sorry for those poor girls you were singing to."
"Though how you can stand him boggles me." The blacksmith muttered under her breath and gave Nael a sympathetic pet on the head. It wasn't his fault his master was a complete moron.
"What the..." She whirled around and watched in horror as the Diabolic casted fire spells. "Cherub, get the hell back here!" The Solace had hopped to her in fright and was chirping about Biscuit wanted to eat fried Porings. She would have laughed at it, but her face was grim and serious as she followed Eirian and waited with bated breath. What could a blacksmith do to put out a fire, anyway?
"Maaannn." She sighed, moving beside the professor. "That pet needs some obedience lessons." Tarina put an arm around Eirian for comfort and the Cherub hopped closer as well, declaring that a Poring was not safe from such a creature.
