Oh, don't sweat that too hard. I can fill in most of the statistical blanks for you. Once you get your Ability scores, Skills, Feats, and equipment, you're essentially done.

But for reference, most of those are abbreviations of ability scores. HP = hit points, AC = Armor Class, BAB = Base Attack Bonus.

...i'm gonna go ahead and take a stab in the dark with the character creation thing now >>;

you said that all of out stats are starting out at 8 base...and that we have 28 points to spend, right? how come i saw a six on your sheet, then? did you take two points away from that stat to put somewhere else? o.o;

Racial modifiers. Half orcs, after stats are allocated, receive +2 Strength, -2 Intelligence, and - 2 Charisma. As a human, your stats will stay the same.

ah...right XD

so...base for a human would be 8s across the board, with one point from the 28 going to increase a stat until 11, when it becomes 2 points per stat, with 10 being average, right?

and how do we determin how many class skills we can have? or is that a race-related thing?
PostPosted: Fri Mar 21, 2008 11:48 am

The amount of class skills you have is directly affected by your intelligence, and if you're a human, your race. If you can get a Player's Handbook handy, look through character creation, it talks all about class skills in there.

Note, however, that you aren't exactly limited only to In-Class Skills. Skills that aren't considered In-Class can be learned as well through the same means, only they cost twice as many skills points to achieve a rank in them.

Not exactly, you start at 8s across the board, and buy them point for point until 17. 17 and 18 are two points a piece.

As for skills, what you get, as Mak says, is determined by class, intelligence, and possibly race. Because you're a bard, you'll get 6 a level, and humans get one extra point per level (no other race has a change to skills). Therefore, you're going to get 7 a level, plus whatever intelligence modifier you have. However, your first level has 4 times the amount of points as any other class, so you're really gonna get at least 28 (Unless you leave your intelligence at 8 or 9, at which point you'll have a -1 int modifier, which means you'll have 24 points). A 10 or 11 intelligence means you'll have 28. 12-13 gives you 32, 14-15 is 36, 16-17 is 40, and 18 is 44.

As for what's class skill and non class skill, you can purchase a class skill (listed in your classes description) on a 1 for 1 basis up to your level + 3 (so a first level character can have their skills up to 4). Cross class skills you purchase half a rank per skill point, and your max is half your level + 1 and a half (so your max at first level is 2). Does that all make sense?

...so! for the four skill i can get, those associated with my class can be leveled on a point for point basis, and those not require double that, right? and those points come from the "(6 + int) * 4" equation when first making the character, and have nothing to do with the 28 points for the stats, correct?

which, while being informative, had nothing to do with my actual question of HOW MANY SKILLS DO WE GET >>

Like we were saying, you get as many skill points as determined by your class, race, and Intelligence. That entire spiel was the answer to the question. xd Depending on where you set your intelligence will determine it. You can raise a single skill to higher ranks by spending multiple points on it, or purchase an entirely new skill with those same points.

Feats are... Well, they're special abilities your character can pick up. Everyone starts with one, but in some special cases you get bonus feats to start with. humans get an extra feat, so you'll have two when you start. Metamagic can be really useful later on, but it won't do you any good at first level. I don't know how much use a bard will get out of them, either.

yeah...i didn't catch that's what ya'll were talking about till a little later on ^^; sorry about that

as for the metamagic thing, i was thinking about the concept of turning a dancing lights spell into something akin to that of a flash bomb, and what not =3

feats are non-class oriented, right?
