Because I spend far too much time listening to the radio, I heard the news that Torchwood is getting a kiddie-friendly version.
Basically Torchwood without the swearing, sex and violence.
I think this is really odd, but according to John Barrowman it's because they get loads of letters from kids who aren't allowed to watch it.
Wonder if they'll still include all the implied Janto ... ?

They're making a specially edited pre-watershed repeat of it. They thought it wasn't fair for Kids to be excluded when they love Doctor Who. I think it's included in the quote I posted in the Series 2 thread.

AHHHHHH! Everyone beats me with news (although, I wasn't even looking at the entertainment section for Doctor Who news. I was looking to see if Helena Bonham Carter has had her kid yet.)
I think it might be over doing it a little, but having two sisters who nag me continuously about how they can't watch it and the other one can, I do see where they're coming from.
I'd be very disappointed in the BBC if they cut out the implied Janto.
Another question, does this mean we aren't getting the nudity we were promised?

You never know xd
And we will get the nudity, but we were never promised it. All John said was that if they paid him enough he'd definitely get it off. And if it was meant to happen this series then it still will, just not in the Pre-Watershed Repeat xd

Well I watched about three episodes one night only to realise that the 9 and 12 year old I was babysitting had slipped out to watch it too. I'm hoping I didn't manage to destroy their fragile psyches or something... Well it was only They Keep Killing Suzie, Captain Jack Harkness and End of Days... can't be too bad right? xDD

The kid I babysat asked me loads of questions when we watched Captain Jack Harkness. He's about 5, I told him not to tell his mum. Luckily they're pretty liberal parents.
It's uncomfortable trying to explain when a 5 year old asks you 'are those two men fighting?'

It's not, but I think I'm giving them a head start in life.
Baby sitting is my way of corrupting children, they'll probably all end up like me.
(I so should've been a boy, really. I have very little interest in feminine things. :<)

That's an illogical statement. Doctor Who can't be Kiddies Torchwood 'cause Torchwood was made from Doctor Who. Torchwood is Adult Doctor Who, Sarah Jane Adventures is Kiddies Doctor Who, and Doctor Who is Family Doctor Who.
And you seen early-teens swearing all the time, and you get educated about sex when you're in year 6, so it's not exactly new to them. There isn't that much of a restriction on pre- and post- watershed television. But I'm pretty sure the butt-naked Jack scene we're hoping for will be either zoomed in to not show the butt, or will have the blocks-of-doom over it. But we'll see it in it's full glory (innuendo) on the original broadcast.

I'd have to agree that I don't see much point in making a child friendly Torchwood. It seems to me that the themes are mature as well as some of the images/language, and while I would have had no problem watching Torchwood as a child, I don't think cutting some of the language and violence makes it appropriate for children from a conservative parent's view. Someone mentioned it earlier, but take Countrycide- cannibalism and chopped up body parts aren't exactly the norm for children's television even if they don't show the most gory scenes.
Torchwood was created, as The Last Lord of Time said, to be an adult Doctor Who. It is so in themes, language, violence and sexual content/implications. It's illogical to turn it into a children's show. If children are complaining that they cannot watch it, they should be talking to their parents not moving to get a pre-Watershed edited version. I figure even an edited version will end up being controversial- it's best to just keep the show as is.
Also, on a similar note, the UK began showing Angel, a spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They decided (against the creator's wishes) that Angel must be a children's show, and put it on pre Watershed. The episodes are only around forty minutes each, and some episodes had up to nine minutes cut to make them child-friendly. Cutting that much out of an already short episode destroyed the plot, made it almost nonsensical, and takes away from the art of the film. I don't want to see that happen to Torchwood, which appears to be so carefully constructed and has so much in single episodes.
*cough* I guess you can tell I've been discussing this with a couple of Proffs. My apologies for the semi-rant.

Yeah... I think it'll probably not work out.
We'll just have to avoid watching those, eh?
