InfoSlayers (スレイヤーズ) is a successful and popular fantasy franchise. The franchise began as a series of fifteen light novels written by Hajime Kanzaka and later developed into several manga titles, three televised anime series, two three-episode Original Video Animations (OVAs), and five movies. It also spanned three role playing games for the Playstation, as well as one for the Super Famicom, or SNES as it was known in the US. Slayers is a Dungeons & Dragons-style parody that follows the adventures of the young sorceress Lina Inverse and her companions as they journey through their world. [1][2] Using powerful magic and swordsmanship they battle overreaching wizards, demons seeking to destroy the world, dark lords, and the occasional hapless gang of bandits.
The first of the three seasons of the anime bore the franchise's title and established Lina's three principal companions

* Gourry (The swordsman)
* Zelgadis (The chimera shaman-rogue)
* Amelia (A young princess and warrior of justice)

The second season was titled Slayers NEXT, and the third season Slayers TRY. A fourth season, Slayers AGAIN, was rumored following the success of TRY, but early scheduling conflicts caused interest in the project to dissipate.[3] Each anime series begins humorously but builds slowly until the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Throughout each series, Slayers maintains its comedic nature, frequently displaying Lina's ill temper or abuse of her comrades or lesser opponents, using these events as comic relief in later episodes. Use of extremely destructive spells in inappropriate settings, especially the powerful "Dragon Slave" spell, is another frequent gag.
Although released after the anime series aired, the two OVAs and the first four movies depict events that occurred early in Lina's career as a bandit-hunting and dragon-spooking adventuress. These installments show her first encounter and subsequent exploits with her first partner, Naga the White Serpent. Naga, while not a great intellect, is a formidable sorceress in her own right, and views herself as Lina's strongest and foremost rival; these adventures take place before the events of the three television seasons.

Main Characters:

Lina Inverse (リナ・インバース)
User ImageUser Image
Lina is the main protagonist and the only character that appears in all incarnations of Slayers. She is a young but very powerful sorceress, with a great love of money, food, and casting fireballs at people with very little provocation. She has an older sister, Luna, who is a powerful swordswoman. Although Lina has faced down dragons, monsters, and even a Dark Lord with little fear, the mere mention of Luna's name sends her into terrified hysterics. She also suffers from a fear of slugs.
In the first episode, she introduces herself by destroying a gang of bandits known as the Dragon Fangs. She steals a large portion of their treasure, then sets off towards the nearest town to cash it in for a sizeable profit. On the way to the town she is ambushed by the remainder of the Dragon Fangs. However, mere seconds before she would have blasted them to bits, Gourry Gabriev valiantly comes to her "rescue" and they begin their adventures together. Lina and Gourry do fall in love, but acting on these feelings is an entirely different story.
Lina has many different nicknames, one of them being "Dragon Spooker", a name that she isn't too fond of. (This isn't quite correct, but it's how it is translated. The kanji stands for "Dragons step past out of sheer revulsion"; the /spoo/ syllable is correct, but /s*r/ was changed to /k*r/ to translate better into English.) This is rumored to have appeared because of an incident in the first episode, in which the Leader of the Dragon Fangs’ pet black dragon escapes. Just when it appears that the beast is going to crush Lina (and Gourry, who was knocked out on top of her in a compromising position), it blanches in disgust and steps over her, a blush along its snout, much to her shock, and thereafter rage. However, the nickname was mentioned before the black dragon met her, thus leading to a possible earlier incident.
Another nickname Lina encounters is the "Dragon Nester." This comes from a rhyme: "Little girl with little breasts, scares the dragon from its nest." This takes off from a running gag, in which characters constantly comment on the small size of Lina's breasts. She generally takes offense to these comments, and often responds with violence. This nickname, though not the breast jokes, only appears in the English dub. The breast jokes start when she first meets Gourry.

Gourry Gabriev (ガウリイ・ガブリエフ)

User ImageUser Image
Gourry is a wandering swordsman who meets up with Lina in the first episode of the television series. He accompanies her from then on. He carries the fabled Sword of Light, originally known as Gorun Nova before it came to the Slayers world.
Gourry is somewhat less than scholarly, but his skills as a swordsman are nearly unrivaled throughout the series. At first, he appears to be a shallow man only willing to fight for his own gain — which is why he "saved" Lina from the bandits, hoping for a damsel in distress. But when he insists on becoming Lina's unpaid bodyguard, and they slowly get to know one another, Gourry's kindness, loyalty and consideration for others becomes clear. He unknowingly annoys Lina when he calls her a little girl in mockery of her underdeveloped breasts, which becomes a running gag in the series.
While Gourry is deadly with plain steel, he is incredibly powerful when armed with his family's magic blade. He is the keeper of the Sword of Light, a mystic weapon whose steel blade can be detached, allowing the use of an alternate blade made of pure, destructive light at the incantation, "Light, come forth!". Gourry takes great care of the Sword of Light, and watches it especially carefully to protect the valuable relic from thieving hands, including those of Lina herself. She often tries to trick him into giving it to her, but she never succeeds. These are one of the few times where Gourry's less than astute memory is crystal clear. Gourry eventually falls in love with Lina. He is, however, less averse to the notion than the young sorceress.

Zelgadis Greywords (ゼルガディス・グレイワーズ)

Zelgadis is a sorcerer who begins the TV series as a mercenary, opposed to Lina, but ends up in Lina and Gourry's group. He is a chimera made of rock golem, blue demon, and human.
Zelgadis Greywords tends to become something of an enigma to his comrades, due to his quiet and antisocial nature. As a boy, he was transformed by Rezo, the red priest — who is either or both his grandfather and great-grandfather (the translation is unclear and differs) — into a three-part chimera. One third is golem, one third is human, and the last third is brau-demon (a being neither demon nor mazoku). The golem third turned him into stone, and no sword but the Sword of Light can hurt him, making Zelgadis nearly unstoppable in a physical fight. The demon third enables him run faster than the eye can see, and granted him great power in Shamanist magic. The human third was simply a remnant of the old Zelgadis, before Rezo changed him.
Zelgadis specializes in Shamanistic magic, which pulls its power from the Astral, or spiritual, plane. His elemental spells are formidable, and include Stone Spiker, a modified version of Ray Wing, and his trump card, the mighty Ra-Tilt. Though he is not as learned in the art as Lina, Zelgadis's even combination of physical brunt and magical finesse render him among the most fearsome of mortal warriors.
Zelgadis travels with Lina because he wants to find a spell that can change him back into a human. Despite the incredible abilities bestowed upon him by Rezo in the transformation, he always views the change as a curse, and wishes more than anything to be rid of it and return to a normal life. His unofficial alias is "the heartless sorcerer swordsman", which he accepts with a smirk. Amelia seems to have a crush on him, and he seems to feel the same way about her, though he refuses to admit it, even to himself.

Amelia Wil Tesla Seyruun (アメリア・ウィル・テスラ・セイルーン)
User ImageUser Image
Amelia is a young cleric and the princess of Saillune with an unwavering belief in justice. She joins Lina's group during the first TV series.
Wherever there's a crime, you'll find Amelia tripping close behind. She’s a helpful little princess who's always either in the way or flat on her face (or in a headlock from Lina). She initially comes across as a very dense little kid who really can't tell the good guys from the bad guys. Although Lina was often annoyed with Amelia for her wide-eyed naiveté, desire to learn the Dragon Slave, and larger bust size (despite the fact that Amelia is younger), eventually Lina comes to accept her as a friend. Most of Amelia's lessons in justice came from her father Prince Philionel of Seyruun, the "ultimate pacifist" armed with a variety of oxymoronic but very effective attacks, whom Lina once mistook for a bandit. It is rumored that Naga the White Serpent might be Amelia's long-lost older sister, the crown princess Gracia (this rumor was later confirmed by Hajime Kanzaka during an interview). After the murder of her mother, Amelia has vowed never to use blades, but once used the Sword of Light to channel the Ra-Tilt. Amelia seems to have a crush on Zelgadis.

Other Characters:
Naga the White Serpent
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
A buxom sorceress with an obnoxious laugh (similar to Ayeka's in Tenchi Muyo! and Kodachi's in Ranma ½) who is Lina's partner in the movies and OVAs.
Naga was often found hanging around Lina Inverse during Lina's earlier adventures, but the two had later parted company under unknown circumstances. During the time that they were together, whenever Naga was around, she was either working together with Lina or against her, all the while irritating the red-headed sorceress to no end.
Naga claims she is Lina's only serious rival. Lina calls her "goldfish feces" — as in, she trails after Lina. Like Lina, she has a massive appetite and is an excessive alcoholic. She is extremely well-endowed, much to Lina's disgust and jealousy, and wears very little clothing.
It is rumored and hinted at throughout the different Slayers series that Naga is really the daughter of Prince Philionel El Di Saillune, and the oldest sister to Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune. However, despite the hinting, it was never confirmed until the creator, Hajime Kanzaka, revealed in an interview that Naga is indeed the lost heir of the Saillune family.
Naga appeared specifically in the OAV’s and movies, however there is a debatable cameo appearance by her in the first season of the TV series midway through (during a crowd scene, several people walked in from of the 'camera' including a shapely lower torso that bore an uncanny resemblance to Naga's design, though the long trailing hair was red so it may have been an homage. Amelia notices the character during the brief scene.

Sylphiel Nels Rada (シルフィール・ネルス・ラーダ)
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Sylphiel is a lovely young cleric who knew Gourry before she met Lina and the others. She became infatuated with Gourry to the point where, in the English translation for the anime, she refers to him as "Dear Gourry" or "Gourry Dear." Gourry only remembers her for her good cooking. While she is weak in shamanism and black magic (her attack spells are especially unimpressive), her skills in white magic (healing and protection) are impressive. This is mainly due to her profession as a Shrine Maiden. Surprisingly, she also manages to get the hang of Lina's signature spell, the Dragon Slave. Strangely enough, Sylphiel's Dragon Slave appears to be as strong, if not stronger than Lina's talisman boosted Dragon Slave. Her only other offensive spell, Flare Arrow, is pathetically slow, weak and shaped like a carrot or beet as a joke. She joins the group for the end of the first series and again near the end of the second series.

Filia Ul Copt (フィリア・ウル・コプト)

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Filia made her first appearance in Slayers Try. She is a Priestess of the Fire Dragon King. Being a Golden Dragon, she has a huge sense of honor and is dedicated to "fulfilling her duties to the temple." She is annoyed to great extents by any monster that crosses her path. She carries a large mace (affectionately dubbed Mace-sama) in her garter, and uses it to end many of her arguments. Filia originally wanted Lina's big sister Luna to accompany her on her quest, but Luna retired and suggested Lina as a replacement.
Filia, at the end of Slayers Try, accepts the egg of the reborn Valgaav in repentance of what her ancestors did to his kind. In the ending credits, you see the glowing see-through egg nestled in a warm basket with Filia yelling something at Gravos and Jillas while they are polishing her pottery.

Xellos (ゼロス)
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Xellos is a high level Mazoku (see Universe section below), who is thousands of years old. Xellos currently serves as priest and general for Beast master Zelas-Metallium. Zelas-Metallium herself is one of the 5 highest ranking Mazoku who were created by Shabranigdo, and she in turn created Xellos. Xellos temporarily served under Hell master Phibrizzo in his attempt to destroy Gaav the Demon Dragon King. Gaav stated that Xellos was given power beyond any Mazoku, leading to the fact that Xellos is above all other Mazoku, with the exception of the Shabranigdo's retainers, and of course, the Dark Lord himself. Dragons fear Xellos and see him as their mortal enemy after he killed half the population during The War of Monster Fall. In the 6th Slayers novel (Vezendi's Shadow), Xellos says his full name is Xelloss Metallium. He is also known as Beast master Xellos, "trickster priest" (by many, including himself) and "namagomi" ("raw garbage" by Filia) or simply Xellos. He is a hindrance as much as a help to Lina and her friends. He gets what he wants in the easiest way; even if it means tricking his friends, though he is not above aiding or betraying anyone as long as it furthers the goals of himself or the others of the Monster race. His trademark response to any important question is, "Sore wa himitsu desu!" (Literally: "That is a secret!" wink . A constant duel goes on between fans whether there is a love or hate, or even a love-hate relationship between Xellos and Filia. First appears in Slayers NEXT.

Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova (マルチナ・ゾアナ・メル・ナブラチョア)
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Martina, along with her father, plotted to capture Amelia. Lina, along with Gourry and Zelgadis, saved Amelia then used the Dragon Slave to destroy Martina's castle and the surrounding town. Enraged, Martina ran off and learned magic so that she could take revenge on Lina. Later, Martina joins forces with Lina and company. Martina is fickle in her love affairs, obsessed with whatever man she happens to see first that day. At the beginning of the series she is hung up on Zelgadis, but her interests switch to Gourry and even Xellos as the series progresses. She is obsessed with her Lord Zoamelgustar, a monster god she made up, but might actually exist.
She is usually a comic foil for the other characters. However any serious scenes she plays are for the purpose to emphasize an important or dramatic moment in the story.
While she has practically no powers, she does seem adept at curses (even though they seem to backfire on her). She even cursed Lina so that any damage she inflicted would be returned to her. She also worships a dark Monster God, not even Xellos or any other Monster antagonists have heard of named Zoamelgustar (Xellos: "Never heard of him...). However at one point she summons his power and is able to generate a shield far greater than one that Lina or any of the other spell casters could muster. This may have been her own innate power, but it's actually Aqua, a dragon god they've met along the way to a Claire Bible. She faces down the final enemy in the last episode, showing that she is an ally and, in a way a friend of the regular cast, including Lina. When Hellmaster Phibrizo kills her during the final battle, Martina uses her last moments to encourage Lina to keep fighting and save Gourry. She eventually marries Zangulus in a fake backdrop church, as her hometown is still rebuilding after Lina's Dragon Slave.

Slayers Universe:

User ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
In the universe of Slayers, the supreme being is neither good nor evil, but is called the Lord of Nightmares, who created everything, and who is said to "float like gold on the Sea of Chaos." Later, it is revealed that the Lord of Nightmares (or L-sama, for short) is not in fact floating upon the Sea of Chaos, but in fact comprises it. Four pillars rise out of the Sea of Chaos, and each supports its own world. Since the Sea of Chaos comprises the Lord of Nightmares' body, the worlds likewise spring from her. In Slayers Next, the Claire Bible confides that if the worlds are destroyed and returned to chaos, the Lord of Nightmares can return to her true form (although why she created the four worlds in the first place has not been revealed, either by the novels or the author himself).

On each of these worlds are gods (shinzoku, lit. "godly race" wink and demons (mazoku, lit. "evil race" wink , fighting without end. Should the gods win the war in a world, that world will be at peace. Should the demons win, the world will be destroyed and returned to Chaos. In Lina's world, the supreme god is Ceiphied, and the supreme demon is Shabranigdo (the Ruby-Eye). Long ago, Ceiphied won the war, and split Shabranigdo's body in seven to prevent him from coming back to life. He then took the seven fragments and embedded them in human souls--as reincarnation works in Slayers, the individual fragments would be worn down the fragments in power until Shabranigdo himself would be destroyed. However, Ceiphied was so exhausted that he himself sank into the Sea of Chaos, leaving four parts of himself and his soul in the world.

A millennium before the events in Slayers, one of Ruby-Eye's parts (which was sealed in the body of Lei Magnus, a very powerful sorcerer) revived and started the Resurrection War against one of the parts of Ceiphied, the Dragon King of Water (Aqua Lord). Ultimately, the piece of Shabranigdo won, but the Aqua Lord, using the last remnants of her power, froze and sealed him within the Kataart mountains. Nevertheless, Shabranigdo's lieutenants escaped and remained at liberty, sealing much of the world within a magical barrier, through which only they could pass. These leaders and their servants are the principal antagonists throughout the three Slayers anime series. They are intelligent, cunning creatures, often indulging in intrigue amongst themselves, and they feast on human emotion, especially fear and pain.

To increase the amount of pain and terror they cause, the most powerful mazoku lend their power to humans in the form of Black Magic spells that call directly on their powers. Such spells include the Gaav Flare (no longer functional after the events of Slayers Next)and Dragon Slave, and are capable of causing enormous damage and suffering to all things and beings, except the mazoku whose power is invoked for that spell and higher-ranking mazoku who can protect themselves.

In contrast to the destructive power of Black Magic are the healing abilities of White Magic, drawn from the caster's own life force. Striking a balance between healing and attack is the rare Divine Magic, which only the dragon servants of the shinzoku have been shown to channel; it is suggested that the barrier erected by the generals of Shabranigdo blocked the power of Ceiphied and his fragments, and thus those people within the barrier had no access to the power to develop spells based around it. Whether people outside the barrier could channel Divine Magic is suspect, as in Slayers Try people outside the barrier are in awe at a simple light spell--confided by the author to be accessible to anyone regardless of magical potential, with rote study.

Shamanistic Magic is focused on manipulation and alteration of the natural world such as Raywing and Fireball, as well as the Astral Plane including Elmekia Lance. One of the greatest Astral spells is the Ra-Tilt, a spell of devastating power when used against a spiritual being, such as a mazoku.

Above all other magic, however, and of its nature used purely for destruction, are spells drawing power from the Lord of Nightmares. Two spells of this class are the Ragna Blade, capable of felling powerful mazoku in a single strike, and the Giga Slave, which calls forth the very Lord of Nightmares into the world, dealing devastating damage against an opponent, but risking the destruction of the world if the spell should fail.

Black Magic

These spells borrow their power from the Mazoku (魔族). If the particular Mazoku lending power to the spell is destroyed, the spell becomes unusable. (Dragon Slave is still usable despite the death of one fragment of Ruby-Eye Shabranigdo, its source, because other fragments still remain.)

Dragon Slave: Lina's favourite high-profile spell. It creates an enormous blast that consumes everything in its range, often used by Lina to destroy enemies, monsters, and the occasional bandit gang or two. As its original name, Dragon Slayer, suggests, it is an excellent choice for killing dragons. The name became corrupted over time to its more commonly-used modern name, Dragon Slave. Its power comes from Shabranigdo.

Ruby-Eye Blade: Either surrounds a sword used by caster with a red glow or creates a sword made of red energy. Assumed to be calling on the powers of Ruby-Eye Shabranigdo. Basically a much powered-down version of Ragna Blade.

Laguna Blast: Surround the target with an inverted pentagram, from which an energy wave shoots upward. This spell calls upon the power of Hellmaster Fibrizo.

Laguna Drive:
Creates a zombie that is intelligent enough to reason, speak and move like a living being. The resulting zombie obeys the commands of the user, and sometimes it thinks and acts on its own to carry out its creator's wishes.

Zelas Brid: Creates a thin ribbon of light that moves in any direction the caster wills it to. This spell calls upon the power of Greater Beast Zelas-Metallium.

Dolph Zork:
Turns nearby water into a spear that can cut through nearly anything. Its greatest disadvantage is it requires the presence of a great amount of water. This spell calls upon the power of Deep Sea Dolphin.

Dolph Strash:
Creates a shockwave in the shape of a spear; unlike Dolph Zork, however, it does not require the presence of water. This spell calls upon the power of Deep Sea Dolphin.

Dynast Brass: Lightning falls into a pentagram around the target, then surges toward the target. Extreme caution must be taken by the caster so that they do not accidentally end up inside the pentagram. This spell calls upon the power of Dynast Grauscherra.

Dynast Breath: The target is encompassed within ice, which is then shattered along with whatever it contains. It is possible to keep the target alive within the ice. This spell calls upon the power of Dynast Grauscherra.

Raugnut Rusyavuna: An extremely powerful curse castable only by a pure Mazoku. The victim is transfigured into a ball of flesh which is consumed by snakes indefinitely. The only way to release this curse is to destroy the Mazoku who cast it.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Blast Ash:
Covers an area about the length of an adult's armspan with a black mist. Any thing in the mist with will, be it human, mazoku, or something else, is turned to ash. The mist is thick enough to penetrate about one enemy. All items, such as walls, without will are unaffected.

Blast Wave: By putting both of his hands on the target, the caster creates a hole in it which is big enough for an adult to walk through. Although most often used on inanimate objects such as walls, the spell also has some offensive potential. However, because both hands need to touch the target while casting, the caster must get very close, which means using Blast Wave like this can be called risky at best.

Void: Teleporting skill used by part-Mazoku chimeras. Mid-level to High-level Mazoku can invoke its powers without saying the spell.

Divine Magic

These spells would borrow their power from Shinzoku, but the divine magic was lost during the Resurrection war, a thousand years ago. However, some priests can use a bit of that lost power.

Ray Freeze:
An ancient holy spell, it paralyzes the body of targets so the caster can escape or keep the victim in place.

Chaotic Disintegrate:
Filia uses this spell against Valgaav in hopes of destroying him before Dark Star possessed the power of the Ancient Dragons. She was too late however, and though the spell caused an enormous show of power on Filia's part, it all came to nothing.

Teleport:
It is unclear whether it's a real spell or not. Filia uses this to teleport the group to the location of the final battle. It exhausts her, just like other spells, but she never says the name of the spell, nor any Chaos Words.

Shamanistic Magic

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Shamanistic spells are spells whose power comes from the sorcerer: they don't borrow power from any god/demon. They are the every-day spells, and their power depends on the sorcerer's conditions (e.g. a sorceress can't cast powerful spells in her menstruation). Shamanistic magic is divided into various types, which are given in parentheses next to each spell's name. Shamanism is sometimes mistranslated as "Spirit Magic", no doubt due to confusion with the particular discipline of the school that deals with souls and the Astral plane, as opposed to the elements.

User Image
* Astral Vine (Spirit): A spell which enchants a sword, axe, or other weapon with magic. A weapon enchanted in this way makes it possible to deal damage to Mazoku and becomes as powerful as the Sword of Light. However, this enchantment is only temporary. Spell not to be used on weapons already with magical qualities. May cause increase in power, loss of magical qualities, or explosion of the weapon.

* Asher Deist (Spirit): This single-target spell is designed to attack undead. Most undead creatures such as vampires will disintegrate on contact, leaving only a small quantity of black dust behind.

* Balus Wall (Air): Also known as: Valis Wall, this spell is effective against flaming attacks (fire-shamanism, dragon's breath, and normal fire). Flames heading towards the caster would, instead of striking, would be diverted to the left and right of the spellcaster.

* Blast Bomb (Fire): One of the strongest shamanistic spells ever created. First used by Lei Magnus. No human wields sufficient power to cast this spell without some sort of increase in power (Ray Magnus had a piece of Shabranigdo in him/Mazoku and part-Mazoku chimeras can cast this spell/Lina can cast this spell with the help of Boost from Demon's Blood Talismans). Creates tons of small glowing spheres from the earth. Each sphere has the destructive power equal to several times that of a Fireball. Characterized by loud schreeching noises when used.

* Blam Fang (Air): Creates small spears of wind. A extremely weak spell that can barely cut into human's skin. Lina Inverse once taught female spellcasters in a city this spell for use against perverts.

* Blam Gush (Air): An air spell that is strong enough to break stone. In the Slayers NEXT, Lina uses this spell to break a number of gargoyle statues in the attic of the ex head of the Atlas City Wizard's guild.

* Elmekia Lance (Spirit): Creates a light lance that damages the target's spirit. Causes great damage to Mazoku.

* Felzareid (Spirit): One of the many attack spells in this category which solely affect astral bodies, Felzareid's unique property is that the blue beam created by the spell does not converge towards the target in a straight line, rather than in a spiralling fashion, making it much harder to avoid. The astral damage done by this spell is also substantial, capable of destroying a brass demon with a single hit, similarly to Astral Break.

* Gou Vu Row (Spirit): Creates a shadow that moves along the ground toward the intended target. If it hits, it causes severe damage to the target's astral side. Often dispelled by hitting it (Rezo's Homunuclus hit it with his cane, and Hellmaster Phibrizzo stomped on it). Makes the sound of mass evaporation of water when dispelled in this way.

* Mono Volt (Air): This is an elementary lightning spell. The caster must touch the target, and if he succeeds, the spell delivers an electric shock. The shock is not lethal, but enough to temporarily paralyze or knock out the victim. The spell can be used more efficiently by using a sword or similar metal weapon as an intermediary instead of touching the target directly.

* Ra Tilt (Spirit): The most powerful spell of Shamanistic magic. Can even destroy a pure Mazoku. Only affects those who have astral bodies. Those are probably Mazoku, but it's possible to kill some of the party just entering/exiting the Astral Plane.

* Shadow Snap (Spirit): Freezes the enemy's shadow by penetrating it with the caster's own shadow. The victim loses the ability to move. Can be easily dispelled by erasing the shadows temporarily with a spell as simple as Lighting. Along with Shadow Web, these spells are used by the so called Shadowmasters.
