In the near future, ZXInc. created a machine that could distort Spacetime. The first Gate caused a random fluctuation in ST, creating a gateway between reality and the distortion. Implications of Gate travel were severe. Not only did the Gates travel between realities, but time as well. Fortunately, for this reality, travel never affected reality as we know it, only parallels created by the fluctuation's.
Enhancements followed. Soon, the dimGate was created, a Gate that could specify exactly which reality to create a connection. This caused ZXI's business to boom; millions of people wanted to visit different era's or different worlds.
Problems arose, however, when the truth of the Gates set in. Realities were not infinite, like ZXI originally believed. Realities began to suffer for various reasons. Some were hurt simply by our level of technology, others by our presence and our lack of rules to keep from interfering with those less advanced. These revelations caused The World Organization to step in. Laws were set in place to require anyone traveling to other realities to blend in, along with disallowing anyone without authorization to take any technology with them. To assist in regulating these laws, The Time/Space Headquarters was founded.
