Since the dawn of time man has warred with one another. Whether it was to obtain or protect something, it mattered not. For thousands upon thousands laid down their lives for their ideals. Even in the organized world the demand for the adequately skilled samurai warriors was always high. However many centuries ago, a wise sage changed the way the game of warfare was played, and the abuse of his gift would echo across the lands for many generations to come.

After being introduced to the world, the chakra wielding warriors known as shinobi began to evolve. Expanding their ever growing list of ninjutsu, they quickly became targets of the samurai and the Daimyo alike for their unique abilities, especially those that belonged to clans possessing bloodline limits. Feared for their differences they were often hunted forcing many to begin practicing their gifts in secret. Little did they know, change was yet to come.

As the years passed on and chakra was becoming more and more common, these shinobi families began to come out of hiding and train themselves as capable warriors not unlike the samurai. Having no real organization they were met by the trained organized samurai armies of the Daimyo and even other shinobi clans looking to expand their territory. This era became known as the “Warring Clans Period”. It was during this period that the Daimyo began to see the shinobi in a slightly different light after seeing their prowess on the field of battle. Some lucky few over the decades were drafted into the Daimyo’s army and their families were treated well for the efforts and sacrifices of their sons and daughters.

After more than 20 years of fighting the shinobi began to see a greater sense of organization in their ranks. Across all 5 major nations outstanding individuals began to unite the various clans under their own banner and over time, pushed back several of the respective Daimyo armies. Even shinobi that had fled to the Daimyo began to desert in favor of their inspiring brethren. After solidifying themselves in their defense against the Daimyo’s armies, the 5 Great Nations enjoyed what would be referred to as “The One Year of Peace”.

Sadly this peace would not last long. Nine massive constructs of chakra known as the Bijuu were ravaging the countryside of all 5 nations. Watching their samurai armies helplessly slaughtered by the beasts forced the Daimyo’s to strike a deal with the shinobi. As the leaders of the shinobi clans deliberated, they agreed to step up to defend the land in exchange for being fully integrated into the Daimyo’s societies. Taking up arms alongside their longtime samurai enemies, one by one the Bijuu were captured and the shinobi had earned their boon. All were riddled with joy, except the samurai.

Fearing their livelihood as warriors was at stake the samurai vehemently opposed shinobi being added to the ranks of the Daimyo in the droves that they were. They were afraid that the skill and power of the shinobi would overturn their hundreds of years of tradition and long standing battle history. This began to cause civil upheaval across the 5 nations unlike anything that had ever been seen before. To avoid conflict, the Damiyo and shinobi heads organized a meeting to ensure peace would last. During the event, a powerful and wise peace-loving shinobi proposed a philosophy that seemingly benefitted all parties. His name was Seisui Senju, the man who had united the clans in the Land of Fire. Letting their pride get the better of them, the samurai arranged for Seisui to be assassinated upon leaving the meeting which made their stance clear. After his death the Daimyo and shinobi were forced to respond to the threat and war broke out anew.

Fortunately the war did not last quite as long. The samurai feeling their way of life was at risk, fought with everything they had. Sadly this forced shinobi to do the same and that difference in power was clear. After The Great War ended the surviving samurai families fled to remote locations, their honor and pride broken, shells of what they once were. After the fires of war were quelled, it was then the ninja villages were founded across the 5 Great Nations. It has been 4 long years since The Great War ended and the new generation is finally seeing a degree of peace, or is it? You decide. Welcome to the Forsaken Realms.
