There once was an old oracle who told me the story of how the world came to an end. Millennia ago, the night sky turned red from bright colorful streaks of what appeared to be shooting stars. She said that the god of chaos was angry, for he was never welcome through the golden gates of Nirvana. Vengeful as he was, The god of chaos tore apart the clouds that carried the kingdom in the sky and unleashed darkness upon the mortals who worshiped the heavens. On the day the world ended, angels rained from the sky. Their wings burned as they re-entered the atmosphere and crashed to the earth. Rain turned a reddish hue from the blood of the fallen, and as the last drop descended, the memories of surviving angels, faded away. The Angels were forced to walk the Earth as immortals; a befitting punishment for never sharing the wealth of the golden kingdom with the god who wanted it. They were damned to the Earth for centuries, bearing the mark of their curse through scarred skin of where their wings once were. Reborn with the instinctive gut feeling to hunt monsters that prowled the night.
Fast forward to the year 2020, New York City is the center of supernatural activity. Strange disappearances, brutal crime scenes, and mainstream news stations that never dig past the headline are just the surface. The occult has a stranglehold on this city, from vampires who traffic humans, to witches who run the red-light district, and to demons who control the politics and businesses. Bounty hunters in charge with maintaining the peace by cutting off the head of monsters are rumored to be immortals themselves. Perhaps the story about the kingdom of Nirvana was true...
