Magic...

It's the word whispered in awe upon every child's lips when they spy fireworks, or go to the circus. But for some, magic is more than an illusion; it's a way of life. It runs as thick as the blood in their veins, talent literally pouring out of them in unexpected ways. These children are often kept a close eye on, and when they come of age, they receive a letter by the oddest of transports - an owl.

The letter spells their wildest dreams, and invites them to take part. While some are born with magic, the ability to hone it, to shape it into something to be directed comes with training, and this is exactly what Hogwarts offers. Soon after they board the Hogwarts Express, which takes them to a secluded castle for them to learn the ways of the blessed and wondrous.

For seven years they attend here, living in one of four houses suited to their personality - Gryffindor for the courageous and bold, Ravenclaw for the clever and quick-witted, Hufflepuff for the patient and most loyal, or Slytherin for the ambitious and resourceful. The house in which they reside becomes like their family, they share their triumphs and tragedies alike, and most discover the closest of friends in their own common room.

Classes are varied, but structured. Arithmetic still remains crucial, history, philosophy and literature take some of the students' time... But most often the students recall their studies in the more eccentric classes such as potions, divination, transfiguration or charms. With so many different subjects from which to choose, a student's education leaves much to his or her's own designs.

Perhaps one of the most important lesson that the school of witchcraft and wizardry can teach is not how to use their magic, but why and for what purpose. Twenty years later, the stain from the Dark War has tattooed itself to all who remember. Many remain in fear that one will resurrect those teachings and spread dark magic among them like a sinister plague.

About Us_____

This is an advanced literate guild. It may not look like much now, but that's mostly because we're more about the writing than how appealing and inviting it looks. Complete sentences, paragraph form. Our minimum word count is 800. Exceptions happen where you won't write that much, but this is the general rule. And that's the bare minimum. When everyone is writing that much, you should have plenty to respond to.

Because this is an advanced literate guild, we expect you to read the posts on your own. This is also a post-when-you-can sort of gig. While we expect posts and activity, there is not a post count at the end of the week.

If you take too long, we will move your character out of the way.

This is not a hand-holding guild. Guild members will have the opportunity to write arcs/plot points for the story. There is no "story master" because we should all be one.

Characters should be in their fifth or sixth year. If you wanted to write them younger than that, there is a dedicated spot for side threads and such.
