The RP takes place in 2009, five years after L's supposed death. L had managed to fake his death but was unable to save Watari's life in the process. Having been able to escape death he went into hiding to control his heirs from the shadows and without them knowing. He has one or two people working for him but they do not know he is the real L. They just think he's some random detective trying to take and solve the Kira case.
The world has changed, most fear Kira while some see him as a God come to earth to help the human race. Yagami Raito is balancing the role of Kira and the role he stole of "L". Not yet knowing that L's true successors are in the on the game.
