For as long as anyone could remember, approximately ten percent of the population of the kingdom of Amalaia have been born with peculiar abilities. It is not regarded as a stigma, or a gift, simply the way people are. This has gone on for centuries, and people have learned to use their abilities in their professions. Little was thought of it, in the early days. As civilization moved on, however, science progressed, and the kingdom rose in power to be among the most powerful countries on the planet. Scientific advances, powered mainly by steam and clockwork, gave it an edge over other nations, and soon its scientists began to study the population and hypothesize about the Winged phenomenon.
At age 16, no earlier, no later, it was found that the population with extra abilities had a vivid dream, a dream in which they were flying. Half were found to recall white wings, the other, black. After years of studies, it was found that similar, related abilities were had by each side. Scientists tentatively called this phenomena The Divide, and labeled the half remembering white wings angels and the other half demons.
This is not an angels and demons RP, however. The story focuses on the exploration of the characters abilities, and the ongoing questions: why is there a divide? Where do Winged come from? And how do those with abilities affect the balance of power within a nation rife with political intrigue and instability?
