_______In the modern days of the world, everything is as it should be. Humans roam the mass of land in the latest inventions of mankind. They build and destroy without thought, having more than enough resources to do as they please and not a care in the world outside of themselves. Why should they? The human race is at it's prime! There is no creature who is powerful enough to stand in it's way, the lands remain fertile after years and years of abuse, and all anyone really wants is some time off from the taxing lives of luxury. That is where New Elkcrest comes in – an island near enough to the equator to make every season as pleasurable as the last, but still not so close to ruin the idea of seasons in the first place. It's a beautiful spot and people come from all over the world to see it's unique wild life and stunningly active culture. Some who come to visit end up never wanting to come back to where they came, being drawn in by the fresh air, the carefree citizens, and how simply affordable it is! Now, this isn't to say that New Elkcrest is teaming with people. Oh, no, the island is it's own little world with it's own strict immigration policy – while many may end up with a strong desire to stay, not all can or will. As welcoming to tourists as they all are, the grand majority turn a nose to foreigners, shunning any who may interrupt and ruin their happy lives.
_______But, it wasn't always like this – nor will it always be like this. None of it. New Elkcrest is merely a pocket of time in the grand scheme of things – a blink as far as any of the more knowledgeable sorts care to consider it. To some, it's a horrible future and, to others, it's a longed for past, but it will always remain as the bridge between the worlds – and, in a way, it can be considered the most important of roles as it is here that everything in the future may be decided.
_______Specifically, in a little lake just beyond the small mountain on New Elkcrest – hidden in a valley none but the animals know of. Inside these waters, there lays a creature of unimaginable power – a Goddess. She once slept in a foolish attempt to reclaim powers that were long lost to her, but she awakens now in modern times as a disturbance within her lake is felt. The Goddess attempted to fix this problem, but her powers could never have been enough to handle it – not on her own. She was helpless and, as she came to realize this, she turned to the mortals who had long forsaken her. She looked to the few who still treasured her in those ignorant times and called them to her lake. Not all had come to her, but the ones who did were granted knowledge that no one in their family could ever know.
_______It was the knowledge of time. These humans were shown to a gap in it, a disruption in what should be, and begged to help her in fixing it before the worst could happen. They were stunned, disoriented, and frightened beyond belief, but the Goddess was too great a force to deny when seen with their eyes. The first travelers were created that night and it was them who started it all. The Goddess had managed to narrow down the time periods in which the anomalies existed – three specific times including the one they existed in currently. Given a stone blessed by the Goddess herself, these travelers were capable of moving between all three of the times in search. But, the handful she had managed to get to help weren't enough. Nothing had changed and they could hardly search through everything all on their own – but, there were no more in the modern times who would listen to her. So, the Goddess called forth more travelers from times who would listen. Whether it was due to them still being faithful or just desperate for an escape, she had managed to fill her ranks with, hopefully, enough.
