indie is short for "Independent"
so with music its a term used for bands that are unsigned or unsigned by major labels. (Same goes for games)
Crafts are just homemade things people come up with and want to share.
Of course you don't have to consider yourself "Indie" to join. Just join if your an artsy person and like thinks that aren't mainstream.
